Its population was 2,866,615 inhabitants at the 2010 census, of whom 1,980,774 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made up of 4 urban districts.
The name of the city in Mongolian means Blue City—Kuku-Khoto in Mongolian—although it is also wrongly referred to as the Green City. The color blue in Mongol culture is associated with the sky, eternity and purity; in Chinese, the name can be translated as Qīng Chéng (Chinese: 青城), literally, Blue/Green City.
The name has also been variously romanized as Kokotan, Kokutan, Kuku-hoton, Huhohaot'e, Huhehot, Huhhot, or Köke qota.
Sai Shang Old Street Hohhot
The Sai Shang Old Street 塞上老街 is located right next to Dazhao Temple.
There are quite a number of streetside stalls and shops selling all kinds of Mao memorabilia and Mongolian souvenirs. Things are generally quite cheap and you won’t be find to find conventional souvenirs e.g. postcards, magnets and other kitschy stuff here.

Buses and Taxis in Hohhot
Public Transport in China is great, there city transport is also being upgraded and is safe, clean and cheap.
Bus rides are less than 10 pence, one ride. Taxi ride by meter to do 2 Km it cost me less than a pound sterling.

Five-Pagoda Temple Hohhot
Five-Pagoda Temple (Wuta Si), which is also called Jingangzuo Sheli Baota, is located in Hohhot City. As there are five small dagobas on the pedestal of the site, it is named Wuta Si. Wuta was originally a building of the temple constructed during 1727-1732. Now the temple has disappeared, but the pagoda has remained.
