Top 7 Things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam
We shot this Top things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam video from what has become one of our favourite locations we've visited so far. Hoi An is simply an amazing must-visit city in Vietnam. We hope this video helps you get a glimpse into as much magic as we were able to capture during our 5 night stay in Hoi An, Vietnam.
If you're planning a trip to Vietnam, it should include a visit to Hoi An Ancient Town and you definitely need to stay from day until evening because everything changes at night. From the glowing silk lanterns to the row boats slowly drifting down the river. This little Hoi An old town is simply charming. Just be prepared for the big crowds to pack in during the evening and night time.
Remember to pick up your tickets from the ticket stations located around the Hoi An Ancient Town. Once you pay for this you can visit any 5 special attractions of your choice.
Some of the ticketed attractions we visited in Hoi An Old Town were:
1. Assembly Hall Of Fujian Chinese
Address: 46 Trần Phú, Cẩm Châu, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
2. Japanese Covered Bridge
Address: Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 564010, Vietnam
3. Museum of Trade Ceramics Hoi An
80 Tran Phu St. | Minh An, Hoi An, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm
You should also visit Hoi An Night Market in the Ancient Town. Cross the Hoi An bridge and you'll enter the night market. Much more enjoyable at night with all the boats running along and lanterns fully lit up. It is a very touristy area though so just be aware of the higher prices and crowds.
Chicken Rice Place (not sure if the Google marker/address is quite in the right place, but the shop name is Cơm Gà Hiền and the photos shown are correct in the map link!)
Cơm Gà Hiền
593 Hai Bà Trưng, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 550000, Vietnam
If you're looking for a nice beach to relax in Hoi An has you covered.
There are 3 main beaches in Hoi An:
- An Bang Beach
- Tan Tanh Beach
- Cua Dai Beach
An Bang Beach will be the most busy so try Tan Tanh or Cua Dai if you're wanting more space to relax.
We also went to an ancient temple and UNESCO world heritage site called My Son Sanctuary to find out some of the amazing history of the Champa people who once lived in Vietnam. My Son Sanctuary is a must-visit when you're in Hoi An, Vietnam especially if you love history and ancient ruins.
The World Cultural Heritage My Son Sanctuary
Address: Duy Phú, Duy Xuyên District, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 6:30am–5:30pm

To biketours
From start to end this tour is fantastic!
You get real bikes, not just basket wheels.
You will start by cycling through Hoi An to take a ferry to an island. You will see how local rice wine is made, and even got to taste a bit. Then get to try your hand at making local bed mats and finally you made rice noodles and eat an amazing local noodle dish for lunch!
The ride itself was at a good level for everyone and the views of the countryside are just spectacular!
The cycling tour through Hoi An is amazing, great way to get out and see real life in Hoi An. Our cycling leader is great and speak perfect English, always had a smile on his face and made sure everyone was safe and happy.
Hoi An, Vietnam montage
Here is a montage of some footage that I captured one afternoon through to the evening form the nice city of Hoi An, Vietnam.
Where to eat Hoi An - Trying The Best Banh Mi in Vietnam according to Anthony Bourdain
Our feasting in Vietnam continues! Being surrounded by a bunch of delicious food options makes life difficult. So many choices, so little stomach space ???? Let us take the thinking away from you as we have found some of the best places to eat in Hoi An, Vietnam.
Our first stop takes us to a local An Bang market to pick up some produce as well as to try some fresh and tasty pho with our accommodation's lovely host - Kim. The pho shop is tucked away in the outer wall of the market if you come looking for the stall and is only open while the market is open.
Cho An Bang Market Hoi An (Early morning local market)
Address: 06 lăng ông, Cẩm An, Tp. Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: 5am - 9am daily
Next up we try a regional specialty noodle dish of Hoi An called Cau Lau. Trang from XO tours (in our previous video) recommended this as the best in Hoi An and we can back that up cause the noodles were amazing! It's a restaurant in Hoi An's Ancient Town, so definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Cao lầu Không Gian Xanh
Address: 687 Hai Bà Trưng, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 9:30am–9pm
We've kept you waiting long enough... now it's time to have the greatest Banh Mi in existence from a shop called Banh Mi Phuong in the heart of Ancient Town in Hoi An. Banh Mi places high in Peter's Top 5 must eat things in Vietnam so this was a must visit restaurant especially since it's the place where the late and great Anthony Bourdain said served the best Bahn Mi and he was spot on.
Bánh Mì Phượng
Address: 2b Phan Chu Trinh, Cẩm Châu, Hội An, Quảng Nam 560000, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 6:30am–9:30pm
Coffee is a big deal in Vietnam so we tried a specialty coffee of central Vietnam which involves blending coconut, condense milk and coffee together into one delicious Vietnamese coffee. Cocobox is a franchised cafe so there's quite a few branches around. There's even multiple Cocobox coffee shops in Hoi An's Ancient/Old Town but the location we went to was:
Cocobox
Address: 94 Lê Lợi, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–6:30pm
Kim our amazing host takes us to her family's favourite restaurant in Hoi An to eat some Banh Xeo which also happens to be one of Yen's favourite Vietnamese food. If you love Banh Xeo, this place makes an exceptional one and it's definitely a very local Vietnamese restaurant that we were fortunate enough to try thanks to Kim.
Bánh xèo Hải Đảo
Address: Lý Thái Tổ, Cẩm Sơn, Hội An, Hội An Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: 24 Hours (according to Google)
For our final meal you will need to book a room at An Banh Stilt House Villa and ask Kim very nicely to take you to the market to pick up some goodies so that she can cook it back at her home for you :) An Bang Stilt House Villa is where we stayed during our entire time in Hoi An. It's an accommodation that we can definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to stay in Hoi An.
An Bang Stilt House Villa
Address: Group 4, Tan Thanh, Cam An ward, Hoi An, Quang Nam, Vietnam 563800

Chợ Hội An: Hoi An Central Market and New Market in the Old Town of Hoi An, Vietnam
This travel video showcases the bustling Hoi An Central Market (Chợ Hội An) during its frantic pace early in the morning in the Old Town quarter section of Hoi An, Vietnam. When it comes to visiting local markets I've often found the best time to wander around is early in the morning. Sauntering out of our guesthouse at 6:30 AM we decided to visit Central Market - a short 15 minute walk away from where we were staying. Upon arriving we noticed a sea of local ladies adorning conical hats frantically moving about. The market reminded me a lot of the ones I visited while traveling in China two years ago - especially from Dali and Lijiang.

This local market is filled to the brim with small outdoor stalls selling everything from fresh produce to fish. There are also more touristy items available for purchase; however, unlike the central market in Siem Reap, it is still mostly catered towards locals.
It's a travel photographer's dream given that one could literally just stand there are fire away. For a while I had felt as though I was in a bit of a photography funk not having taken or posting photos in a while. Coming to this market and shooting away to my heart's content was exactly what I needed to revive my stagnant creative juices.
In the covered section of the market, one can find a collection of local eateries selling delectable local dishes, such as Cao Lau and White Rose. Eating local dishes from the market is a lot cheaper than going to a proper restaurant. For those on a budget or interested in rubbing elbows with locals, this is certainly the way to go.
As always, we recommend coming early before tourists converge. We were the only visibly noticeable foreigners for the first 30 minutes of our wanderings:

Hoi An Street Food at Hoi An Night Markets - Travel Vietnam
What is a Taco Xeo?! How bad is Durian Ice-cream really? Did we just find a grilled pork shop? Join us and check out the amazing Hoi An Street Food at the Hoi An Night Market as we travel Vietnam.
There is certainly no shortage of choice for street food dishes at the Hoi An night market, with truck loads of vendors offering a range of sweet and savoury treats. We saw a delicious looking pork chop bbq-ing on a grill and thats how we started our Hoi An night market dinner, then from there we had a first for us in Vietnam, in fact a first for anywhere, we bought a Taco Xeo. Then we tried a few more things we had never had before and some we look forward to finding again elsewhere and some we definitely wont be eating again, as we continue our Vietnam Travel.
If you would like more information on our Hoi An visit, how we got there, where we stayed and other activities we did, then be sure to check out our blog here:
We'd love it if you liked and shared this video, so others who haven't yet heard of us, also get a chance to share in the experience. Thanks :)

We are Leon and Tash, a New Zealand vlogging couple who set off on an amazing Vietnam adventure as fulltime travellers, backpacking Vietnam. But we weren't going to travel to Vietnam for one of those ordinary backpacking Vietnam trips you hear about everybody doing, where they go for a couple off weeks and check out the beaches or maybe riding through Vietnam at such a crazy pace that they never get off the beaten track. No we want more than that.
Our Vietnam adventures start with learning the way of the locals, taking just enough time to figure out how things work, discover what the Must see places in Vietnam are and more importantly where Vietnam's hidden gems are...
To do this, we moved to Danang Vietnam. The plan was to spend 3 months living in Da Nang, meeting and learning from locals about the culture, the amazing food, their way of living and what places they would recommend to travel in Vietnam.
And because Danang is in the middle of the country, we hoped we might meet other tourists or expats who were having their own Vietnam travel adventure or were at the halfway point of motorcycle riding through Vietnam and hear from them, what places they thought we must visit in Vietnam. Also, as new travel vloggers, having a base there meant we could try things like doing Da Nang Vietnam travel vlog or creating a Danang Vietnam travel guide, before also taking on the stresses of fulltime travel.
Then in month 4, that's when the real Vietnam adventure begins. With our new list of must see places, we will head to Saigon and buy a couple of motorbikes. to start our Vietnam road trip!
Motorcycle riding through Vietnam seems like one of the most hectic, crazy and chaotic things anyone could do, but we can't wait!! And we wont be following a simple South to North / Saigon to Hanoi route, we plan on doing more like a figure 8, so that our travel in Vietnam will cover both the inland and coastal areas of this amazing country.
So can we still say we are backpacking Vietnam? Or should we be telling people our travel in Vietnam is a motorcycle trip through Vietnam? We're not sure, but what we do know is, our Vietnam road trip is going to cover over 6000km's from Saigon right up to the famous waterfalls of Ban Gioc near Cao Bang, round the northern point of the Ha Giang loop and everything else we can access in between.
So we hope you'll join us, the New Zealand vlogging couple, on our Vietnam adventure by clicking subscribe to join the Tribe and experience our travel in Vietnam..

Tra Que Herb Village in Hoi an
Tra Que Herb Village in Hoi an
Tra Que is a small farming community located about 2 kilometers northeast of Hoi An.
It’s an easy bicycle ride and a quite scenic one which involves pedaling past rice fields, glassy rivers, and lazy water buffaloes lounging in the mud.
Activities at Tra Que
Be a farmer!
Yes, for a day you can join one of the local farmers and get a feel of what it is like to work the land – water the crops, fertilize the land with seaweed from the nearby lake, pick up a hoe and get your hands muddy. What better way to get an insight into the local way of life?
Learn to cook.
Tra Que Herb Village opened its own restaurant Waterwheel just a few months ago and it is already getting rave reviews. The family behind this restaurant is not only skilled in the cooking department, but they are also passionate about sharing their local recipes and techniques. The best part is that you know you are getting the freshest ingredients because they’ve literally been picked that day from the local farm.
