FRANKFURT, crossing the modern bridge of HOLBEINSTEG over the river MAIN, great views ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's walk across the beautiful Holbeinsteg footbridge, located in Frankfurt, Germany and which is reserved solely for pedestrians and cyclists. This makes it possible for non-motorists to take in the scenes on the southern museum embankment as well as the magnificent skyline situated on the northern side of the river.
This beautiful suspension bridge, attached to two blue-coloured towers by red and grey-blue cables, was opened in 1990. The Holbeinsteg footbridge connects the city district of Sachsenhausen (museum mile) with the Bahnhofsviertel (central station district).
Frankfurt, a central German city on the river Main, is a major financial hub that's home to the European Central Bank. It's the birthplace of famed writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose former home is now the Goethe House Museum. Like much of the city, it was damaged during World War II and later rebuilt. The reconstructed Altstadt (Old Town) is the site of Römerberg, a square that hosts an annual Christmas market.
Germany is a Western European country with a landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches. It has over 2 millennia of history. Berlin, its capital, is home to art and nightlife scenes, the Brandenburg Gate and many sites relating to WWII. Munich is known for its Oktoberfest and beer halls, including the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus. Frankfurt, with its skyscrapers, houses the European Central Bank.

The striking steel construction of the Ironbridge even impressed the painter Max Beckmann (1884-1950), who immortalized the pedestrian bridge on several of his Expressionist paintings. For since 1869, the Eiserne Steg characterizes the Mainuferpanorama with its concavely curved metal arches, which should embody the belief in progress of the then industrial era. At that time, Frankfurt citizens financed this bridge and it still fulfills its purpose: to bring the pedestrians from Hibb de Bach to Dribb de Bach, ie from Frankfurt's old town to the opposite district of Sachsenhausen.
The Ironbridge, meanwhile one of the most famous monuments in Frankfurt, was indeed destroyed in the Second World War, but rebuilt one year after the end of the war. In the years 1993/94 a fundamental renovation took place, with which the bridge received at every rising an elevator, in order to make it passable also for wheelchairs and prams. The iron construction is adorned by a banner with a quotation from Homer's Odyssey in Greek: Auf ΕΠΙ ΟΙΝΟΠΑ ΠΟΝΤΟΝ ΑΛΛΟΘΡΟΟΥ ΑΝΘΡΣ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΥΣ (Sailing on wine-colored sea to other people) .The inscription of the artist Hagen Bonifer was created during the event Easter Walk on the occasion of the Goethe anniversary in 1999.
A walk across the Ironbridge offers a magnificent view of the skyline and the Museumsufer. On the Old Town side of the Ironbridge is the landing stage of the Frankfurt excursion boats. On opposite Sachsenhäuser shore are restaurant ships with pedal boats and rowboat rentals. A special attraction every second Saturday is the Frankfurt flea market, which stretches with colorful junk stalls up to the Holbeinsteg.

Sanierung Alte Bruecke Frankfurt - Verkehrsdezernent Stefan Majer informiert

EXPLORING FRANKFURT'S Lovers' Bridge ???? (EISERNER STEG or IRON BRIDGE), GERMANY
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's walk along the Eiserner Steg (Iron footbridge, or, Iron bridge) which is a footbridge leading over the river Main in the city of Frankfurt, Germany, which connects the centre of Frankfurt with the district of Sachsenhausen. It was built in the year of 1868. It is 170 metres long and consists of riveted steel truss with two bridge piers. The bridge was blown up by the Wehrmacht in the final days of World War II, but it has been rebuilt shortly afterwards in the year of 1946. In 1993 it had been fully renovated.
It is also known as the Love Lock Footbridge or Padlock Bridge over the Main river and many locks were put on the bridge by lovers as part of some sort of a promise or a wish of eternal love… The locks are of all different shapes, sizes and colour. And all of them had been engraved with the names of the lovers and the date and it is customary to throw the key away to complete the ritual.

Frankfurt, Germany
Frankfurt is the main financial center in Germany, but it also is a beautiful city with the contrast between the modern skyscrapers and the old buildings that were reconstructed after the war.
