Are you considering Holbox Island for vacation this year? Isla Holbox is a laid-back destination to unplug. How laid-back? Well there are no cars, for one, so the best way to get around Holbox is to rent a golf cart or rent a bike. The best island in Mexico - ISLA HOLBOX

One of our favorite places in Mexico for sure is this beautiful island called Isla Holbox. Located 2h30 north of Cancun this little nature paradise is one of our highlights of our trip so far in Mexico.

We got the chance to swim with a whalesshark, see the most beautiful sunset we've ever witnessed and meet flamingos at the Punta Coco beach. At night the atmosphere is wonderful and we were lucky enough to experiment the bioluminescence phenomenon in the sea.

HOLBOX ISLAND:

Located to the northwest of Cancun, Mexico, Holbox Island is just 26 miles / 42 km long. Holbox Island is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and other exotic birds and creatures.

Most of the people of Holbox Island make their living fishing. It is common to see fishermen walking through Holbox Village with their catch of the day or carrying their nets. The streets of Holbox Island are made of white sand, common of Caribbean islands, and there are very few cars. Holbox Island is considered a virgin tourist destination because very few outsiders visit the island. In spite of Holbox' natural beauty, inaccessibility has left it unspoiled by mass tourism.
