TOUR OF THE GREATEST FOOD MARKETS IN BUDAPEST -- True Guide Budapest
Budapest is famous for its market halls that sell delicious local produce, fresh fruits and vegetables and also a range of Hungarian arts and crafts. Join me on a tour of some of the city's finest food markets, including the famous touristy market and some less known hidden gems.
(1) The Great Market Hall
address: 1-3 Vamhaz korut, district IX, Budapest
An architectural glory that is unquestionabl one of Europe's finest indoor markets. A must visit location, but do keep in mind , that it is now mostly for tourists. It actually does have a useful ALDI supermarket in the basement. Visit the the top floor, for great views of the city, but I recommend that you avoid the jungle of food stalls as they only look authentic, are overpriced and of not good quality.
(2) Hold street market, now named Downtown market
address: Hold utca 13, district V, Budapest
A truly hip place where everything revolves around culinary delights. You will find amazing little eateries which serve as a lunch spot for many business people. Either go for local food or try something more exotic.
(3) Lehel square market
address: Vaci u. 9-15, district XIII, Budapest
Located in the residential area of district XIII, it is very easy to reach by metro line 3. It is as authentic as it gets, this is where the city stocks up on fresh produce, not many tourists make it here. Super fresh and cheap. Weird looking building though!
(4) Teleki tér market
address: Teleki László tér, district VIII, Budapest
Located in the most disadvantaged district of the city known as Jozsefvaros (Joseph city). Underwent a successful urban regeneration program. If you are adventurous and want to see a very different face of Budapest, consider a visit here.

I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.
Living in Budapest: Vásárcsarnok Market on Hold utca
Shopping in Budapest can be an adventure and a challenge. It is not unusual to be as surprised by what you can find as you are by what you cannot find. A wide variety of shops can be found on the busy streets, from familiar chains and designer stores to small shops selling unique Hungarian handcrafts or discount jeans and t-shirts. It is considered polite to greet shopkeepers as if you were entering their home.
In terms of produce, grocery shopping in a new country can be a fascinating and at times daunting experience. New and unusual foods can be found throughout the store, while identifying familiar items and ingredients can be challenging in a new language. Budapest features a wide variety of well-stocked grocery chains. If you'd like a taste of grocery shopping Hungarian-style, try one of the many large markets in town. These markets feature fresh produce, meats and baked goods at a range of booths and stands. Certain ingredients and products that are commonplace in one's home country may not be readily available here. Tesco features an international section that carries some such ingredients (Indian curry, American peanut butter and Heinz baked beans for example). In the end, asking other expats and diligent searching should lead you to the special item you are looking for.

► The Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall (Hungarian Nagyvásárcsarnok) is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary. The idea of building such large market hall arose from the first mayor of Budapest, Károly Kamermayer, and it was his largest investment. He retired in 1896 so when the building was completed, he participated in the opening ceremony as a citizen.
Most of the stalls on the ground floor offer produce, meats, pastries, candies, spices, and spirits such as paprika, Tokaji, Túró Rudi, and caviar. The second floor has mainly eateries and souvenirs.
TÜKÖRY ÉTTEREM | DELICIOUS HUNGARIAN FOOD IN BUDAPEST
The history of the restaurant from Tüköry could learn from our guests who have worn the székeinket when I thought I was not. They say on the basis of 1952 opened during the Hold utca 15 Per Liquor Store. From all started. The liquor store was a pub after a while. If I had time I got to the pub Tüköry name. With so in case you actually Tüköry Lajos named after the Hungarian War of Independence who was lieutenant, a major in the Turkish emigration. This may be because our restaurant is right next to Freedom Square. In another narration, according to the restaurant dishes made Tüköry related to the name, since the majority of food tálalásánál the fried egg was impossible to leave. In this case only since 1958 Tüköry pub bore the name, because since then has worked as a restaurant. So which came first the chicken or the egg? Later, more came to the fore in the consumption of food, rather than sörözgetés, so over time the names Tüköry Tüköry Brasserie restaurant has become. As the guests left a deep imprint, / I heard about it because most of the time / is the period when we were in a queue of draft beer. If you accidentally empty the barrel, it is only after a long wait is almost on the border and dehydration, but steadily waiting for the arrival of new barrels. Van, who lives in his memory to the counter with large bells ringing bell signaled started when fresh beer bottling. Some guests had their own mug, which we preserve our restaurant is still valuable díszeiként. Many people are interested about the Hárfásról, who entertained guests in the '70s. Unfortunately, these days, however, few clubs can afford to provide live music, since the introduction of various taxes and royalties quite made it hard for our lives here too.
