The Holiday Scout - Your Specialist for Customized Tours in North East India
North East India is a paradise still unexplored. Also known as the Seven Sisters, the region comprises seven hill states each with a distinct cultural heritage, ethnicity and language. Historically, North East was the most isolated part of India; but no more. The world is fast recognising its immense tourism potential. In 2012, Arunachal Pradesh was even declared one of the top ten places to travel to by Lonely Planet.
James Hilton's 1933 classic book, Lost Horizon, describes Arunachal as a Garden of Eden on Earth, a land of milk and honey in a hidden Himalayan valley, where nobody grew old or ugly. Indeed, the rich biodiversity, beautiful deep valleys and snow clad mountains of this frontier state are some of the world's most impressive, with the colorful traditions and cuisines of its tribes adding yet another unique dimension to the whole experience here. In short, North East India is a must see destination for every inquisitive traveler.

Thembang Village, Arunachal Pradesh.
The old name of Thembang is Yuchho-pema-chen which literally means a Lotus like village. Legend has it that it was settled in the early century which would approximately be before first century AD. It is considered an oldest village in the region with a large human settlement. It was once ruled by a very powerful king who is believed to have descended from the sky. They were known as Cha-cha-nyey. The remains of the materials belong to the king are still believed to be there. He used to collect tax from different regions including some parts of Bodo area, the present Darrang District namely Mishamari, Udalguri, Mazbat etc. It is believed that initially the village was settled in Sat-tsi which is on the bank of a small river, 10 km away from Thembang. Due to an epidemic almost ninety-nine percent of the villagers died, after which the remaining villagers moved to the present location, which is at the altitude 2300 above msl. A trip to Tawang
Erstwhile Tawang District was a Sub-Division of West Kameng District till 5th October 1984. This district is situated in western most part of Arunachal Pradesh. The area of this district is approximately 2,172 Sq.km, bounded by Tibet (China) to the north, Bhutan to the south-west and Sela ranges separated from West Kament district in the east.
Tawang is a popular tourist destination thanks to the well-preserved Tawang Monastery. The Sela Pass rises steeply and is covered with snow for most of the year. Jang waterfall is a big tourist attraction.
Tawang district has a handicrafts centre that promotes the small-scale industries for local handicrafts.
Visitors to Tawang district require a special Inner Line Permit from the government which are available in Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and New Delhi. Most of the travel from the plains is on a steep hill road journey, crossing Sela Pass at 4,176 metres (13,701 ft). Tourists can travel to Tawang from Tezpur, Assam by road. Tezpur has direct flights from Kolkata. Guwahati, Assam, is 16 hours by road. In June 2008, a daily helicopter service from Guwahati was started by the Arunachal Pradesh government.
Road travel to Tawang from Tezpur, Assam, is by buses, private taxis and shared taxis. It is an arduous journey: most of the road is loose tarmac and gravel giving way to mud in many places. However, it is a scenic journey of nearly 12 hours, crossing Bomdila Pass 2,438 metres (8,000 feet), peaking at Sela Pass 4,176 metres (13,700 feet), Jaswant Garh and, finally, Tawang. Government buses often break down (usually on the way up) and passengers end up hitchhiking in private cars and taxis. En route, local food is available, especially meat and vegetarian momos and cream buns.
Tawang also hosted the 2nd International Tourism Mart in October 2013

Streets and marketplace in Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh
Winters make life sluggish in the hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Bomdila is the headquarter of the West Kameng district. In early morning hours one doesn't find many people on the road, even the streets of the marketplace are deserted. As the sun warms up, people begin to come out of their homes and get on with work and go out to buy things from the market.
