Holocaust Memorial – Miami Beach, Florida, USA
The Memorial begins with a curved walkway with a reflecting pool on the left and a black granite wall on the right. The wall depicts a short history of the Holocaust. This walkway leads to a passage of diminishing height, furnished with an eternal light and bearing the names of World War II concentration camps. The passage leads to a circular, walled plaza. The centerpiece of the plaza is a 42-foot bronze arm that appears to be reaching up out of the ground. It is inscribed, as if tattooed, with a serial number like those applied by the Nazis to concentration camp prisoners. There are also about a hundred life-sized bronze figures of people, some seeming to climb the arm, some scattered about the plaza. Upon returning through the passageway, a second curved walkway and black granite wall, continuing the arc of the first, is inscribed with the names of Holocaust victims, much like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Miami Holocaust Memorial - Miami, FL
I've always wanted to visit this memorial. I finally had the chance. It's somewhere you experience peace and sorrow, anger and sympathy at the same time. Hope the world learned a lesson and we can live in peace until the end of days. It is also a gorgeous artistic work.

Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach, Florida - International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2020
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MIAMI BEACH
In 1984, a small group of Holocaust survivors joined together to develop a permanent memorial in Miami to the six million Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis. A year later, the Holocaust Memorial Committee was formally established as a private non-profit organization.
The committee decided that Miami Beach was the perfect location for such a memorial, as South Florida has one of the highest populations of Holocaust survivors in the United States, with many of them residing within the city limits.
The proposed location spanned several city blocks with a physical address of 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue, street numbers that exactly match the years of the Nazi regime and its war against the Jews. The coincidence led many to believe the location of the Memorial was bashert (fate), and also helped convince several city legislators that the Memorial belonged in that specific spot.
The memorial was designed by Kenneth Treister (architect and sculptor who also designed the Coconut Grove Mayfair Hotel & Shops) on a site designated by the City of Miami Beach Commission at Meridian Avenue and Dade Boulevard. This site was previously the home of Holocaust survivors William and Florrie Loeb and their son Robert, who immigrated from Rotterdam, Netherlands after the bombing and occupation by the Nazis. They purchased the home in the 1940s and Florrie sold it to the city of Miami Beach in the early 1970s who had plans to make it into a parking lot. There remain trees in the back of the Memorial that were planted by the original owners of the property in the 1920s and 1930s.
The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach was opened on Sunday, February 4, 1990, with Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel as guest speaker at the dedication ceremonies. Miami Attorney and Holocaust survivor Andrew C. Hall serves as chairman.
INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY (JANUARY 27TH)
2020 marks the 75th Anniversary.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on 27 January commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War. It commemorates the genocide that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews and 11 million others, by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 60/7 on 1 November 2005 during the 42nd plenary session. The resolution came after a special session was held earlier that year on 24 January 2005 during which the United Nations General Assembly marked the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps and the end of the Holocaust.
On 27 January 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, was liberated by the Russian Red Army.
