Christian relic visits Russia
Thousands of Muscovites are lining up to worship one of the most revered Orthodox Christian relics - The Mother of God's Belt -- as it goes on display at the Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
The Orthodox Church believes in a legend that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, wore a belt woven from camel wool, and, after her death and Assumption, it came into the hands of the Apostle St Thomas.
The Christian relic, which came to Russia from Greece, is believed to have divine powers to cure infertility and disease.
In the first centuries of the Christian era, the Belt was held in Jerusalem.
By the end of the 4th century, the relic was taken to Constantinople (now Istanbul).
It had been repeatedly cut into parts throughout history. And only three pieces remain.
One of them is kept in Georgia, the two others are in Prato, Italy, and at Vatoped Monastery on Mount Athos in Greece. The latter is believed by Orthodox Christians to be under protection of the God`s Mother.
The Belt has never been taken from Athos before, with an exception only made for the month-long Russian tour across 14 cities this year.
The relic will be on display for more than a week ...

A Delightful Evening in Vladimir, Russia
I'm glad to be able to spend two nights in Vladimir (180 km from Moscow). One can visit the Uspensky Cathedral (from Dormition), the Cathedral of St. Demetrius (1194-1197), the Golden Gate, an ancient city gate, and several ancient monasteries. Vladimir is a beautiful city whose visit can be combined with that of Suzdal.

Father Superior of Pochaev Lavra commented on the claim to seize Lavra from the UOC
Father Superior of the Pochaev Lavra of Holy Assumption Metropolitan Vladimir (Moroz) commented in his interview on the recent claim of Ternopol Regional Council to confiscate the Pochaev Lavra from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and turn the monastery into the state conservation area. It is reported by the UOJ correspondent.
Commenting on the events, Metropolitan Vladimir, father superior of the Pochaev Lavra, tells that clouds have been gathering around the monastery for over 2 years now: politicians, journalists, officials have been trying to defame the sanctity, disseminate fake information, intrude into the smooth life of the monastery. The metropolitan is sure, however, this situation lurks no threat to genuinely faithful minds.
«The folks, being in elated spirits, hurry up to bend and kiss incorruptible relics, to ask of their intercession with God. As we were walking along the streets, we were favorably impressed by such a huge number of people who were participating in the Cross Procession which made us feel invigorated”, the father superior shares his impressions.
“The Ukrainian mass media sometimes highlight what is contrary to the reality, which is painful and disturbing for us to some extent – still there is such evidence. We are a part of the society and therefore, the experience of the Church and Orthodox people is our experience as well. A lot of facts prove our being somewhat despised”, states the Metropolitan. He warned those who have an ill vision of the Church they’d better change their standpoints in order not to lose their souls by committing acts similar to those of the XX century’s theomachists.
Besides, the Lavra’s father superior told about a new Transfiguration Cathedral in which feast worships were held on the occasion of the commemoration of Saints Job and Amphilochius of Pochaev. According to him, the construction of the Cathedral commenced in 2010, yet the first Divine Liturgy and blessing of the water were conducted by the deceased Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) as soon as in 3 years after the beginning of construction works.
“Since then we’ve held worship services on big holidays in the Cathedral. We are extremely happy because it can accommodate 2.5 times as much people as the Assumption Cathedral can. I believe if God helps us fulfill our plans and intentions, it’ll be one of the biggest mosaic churches of the world”, the Metropolitan assures.
Metropolitan Vladimir particularly underscored the Holy Mount will extend its hospitality to all those who wish to kneel sincerely and devotionally before icons and relics, and advised to visit the sanctity at least once a year in regular days when a more quiet and slow paced atmosphere offers a lot more possibilities for spiritual enrichment.

Funeral of Vladimir Belyayev
Vladimir Nikolaevich Belyayev, a variant spelling of Vladimir Markof-Belaeff (known professionally as Mario V. Markoff) -- born in Salzburg (Austria) on 15 December 1947 (although the official birth record indicated 15 January 1948), the son of Галина Яновская (née Halina Janowska in Poland) and Николай Владимирович (also known as Александр Ефимович) Беляев, both of whom were victims of Bolshevik persecution due to their class enemy status, the mother coming from a distinguished family of Russian priests, and the father from a prominent military family loyal to the Last Emperor. Reposed on 3 October 2013 in the city of San Francisco. Like his parents before him, he continued the family tradition of teaching, lecturing, researching, writing, publishing (primarily on subjects related to the true history of Russia and Russians, their culture and economic history as well as future prospects. Multilingual, he received his education at the Colegio Almirante Brown in Buenos Aires, San Francisco State University and the University of California at Berkeley. Greatly valued by his colleagues, he was a brilliant mathematician, an exceptionally knowledgeable electronics engineer who worked tirelessly to improve and secure the information resources and communications capabilities of his employers in the USA. In his spare time, he taught the accurate version of Russian history to young Russian-Americans in San Francisco and was a devout, committed and active member of the Russian Orthodox Church as well as the greater flock of faithful throughout Christendom. From 2008, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Russian-language newspaper in San Francisco, Russian Life -- a sacrifice of his time that sadly undermined his health, as he performed his duties, as he did everything else in life, with enormous diligence and care. Never married, he was devoted to his surviving sisters, nieces and nephews, and a cherished friend to both brothers-in-law. The funeral service, on 12 October 2013, was solemnly offered at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, with Hieromonk Theophylact and Protodeacon Victor Lochmatow leading the service, and the traditional Russian Orthodox funeral rite sung by a choir of monastery and seminary residents, under the direction of Nikolai Kotar. God's servant Vladimir was interred at the monastery cemetery, where he rests next to his mother, as was his last wish. This video recording at the request of the family was shot and produced by Deacon Ephraim WIllmarth.

Andrei Rublev: A collection of 58 paintings (HD)
Andrei Rublev: A collection of 58 paintings (HD)
Description: Russians consider Rublev their greatest icon-painter, the artist whose work epitomizes all that is most excellent in Russian medieval painting of the 14th century. He exceeded all other medieval artists in the art of blending the severe rules and traditions of Byzantine Christian art with Russia's dreamier conception of beauty and with the pensive, introspective outlook evoked by the impact of Italian sentiment upon Slavic imagination. Although Rublev's Deesis, destroyed by fire in 1547, is the only icon mentioned on aesthetic grounds in medieval chronicles, almost as little is known about Rublev's life as that of Theophanes. He was born in Pskov, probably about 1370, and he is known to have painted the walls of the Cathedral of the Assumption at Vladimir, but these murals were so badly restored early in the 20th century that they now throw no light on Rublev's early manner. The first actual mention of Rublev is in 1405 when he - along with Theophanes the Greek and Prokhor of Gorodets - executed a number of panel paintings and religious murals for the Cathedral of the Annunciation in the Moscow Kremlin. See also: Christian Art, Byzantine Period.
At some unspecified period in his life, Rublev became a monk of the Spas Andronievski Monastery in Moscow, but there is nothing to show whether he studied under Theophanes before taking his vows or some time after 1395, when Theophanes moved to Moscow. All that we know is that Rublev never left Moscow after entering the Spas Andronievski Monastery, and that most of his work was done in and around the city. Since his surviving works are to be found either at Vladimir or in Moscow, Rublev is often classified as a master of either the Vladimir-Suzdal or early Muscovite school, but the ingredients of his style derive mainly from the Novgorod school of icon painting.
