But, it doesn't stop there - other than the stunning exteriors, the interiors of the house of prayer are a must-see as well!

The first Pauline monastery in present-day Croatia was founded in the second half of the 13th century on the lower slopes of the Medvednica Mountains. During two seasons of archaeological excavations (2007 - 2008) on the southern plateau of the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the ruins of two earlier churches were discovered. The massive foundations of both churches were heavily destroyed as a result of geotectonic disturbances. The older church (mid-13 century), was destroyed only a century after it was dedicated, due to the earlier mentioned geotectonic disturbances. However, the Paulines decided to build another church on the same ground. During the 15th century, the church sustained great damage, again as a result of geotectonic disturbances. Yet again, a new church (the one currently standing), with a monastery complex was built using the foundations of the two previous churches for support.
Since the foundations were greatly damaged and shifted towards the southern and eastern slopes of the plateau, reassembling for proper interpretation was needed. Laser scanning has been shown to be the only method possible for the precise reconstruction of the damaged foundation puzzle of the churches. Optech's ILRIS-3D laser scanner and 3D data analysis methods helped reconstruct this middle-age puzzle with its outstanding characteristics and versatility. It helped in proving the geometrical facts of two historical churches and bringing the broken pieces of history back together.

Count Jelacic Square (Trg bana Josipa Jelačića) is an Austro-Hungarian styled square and the true centre of the city. There's a phenomenal variety of cafés, shopping, feeding and people watching everywhere. It was named after the impressive sculpture within its domain, that of Count Jelačić, his deadly steed, and a sword so pointy and sharp that it could poke your eye out. Our count's image has inspired a number of political outbursts: in 1947 it was dismantled and chucked into a corner somewhere because leaders found it overly representative of nationalism in the country. The year 1990 brought it back into its current place, this time leaders believing it perfectly nationalistic.

Upon their arrival on the Adriatic coast over thirteen centuries ago, the Croats accepted Christianity, inheriting a devotion to Mary: Love for the Mother of God and love for the homeland bore a people of fierce warriors and defenders of Christendom. This persistent defence of Christianity in the face of Ottoman aggression (and later Communism) led Pope Leo X to address them as the “Bulwark of Christianity”. This film considers the Marian character of Croatia throughout the ages.

MR Drone Croatia - Church of Blessed Virgin Mary in Dol, Brač
Župna crkva Očišćenja Blažene Djevice Marije, u Dolu na Braču, izgrađena je u razdoblju od 1862. do 1887. godine. Crkva čuva nekoliko križeva, a najveći je Dolski Isukrst koji predstavlja tijelo Isusa u prirodnoj veličini. To je jedna od nekoliko crkava u Dolu, koji je sa svega stotinjak stanovnika prava oaza za turiste, posebno poklonike pješačenja i biciklizma. :)
The parish church of the cleansing of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dol on the island of Brač, was built in the period from 1862 to 1887. The church keeps a number of crosses, and the biggest is Jesus Christ of Dol that represents the body of Jesus in a life-size. It is one of the few churches in Dol, which has only a hundred people living there. It is a real oasis for tourists, especially lovers of hiking and biking. :)
