The first statue was made after the 1691 plague epidemic in 1706.
But after the second black plague (it was in 1709) they removed it, and erected a bigger one in 1713.
After the World War II. its reliefs and statues were transported to the Kiscelli Museum. (during the renovation process) On the square there is a transformed version of the statue.

Along the Danube (Hungary) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Along the Danube in Hungary.
The Danube is a European river and although the Volga is longer and the Rhine is of greater economic importance, no other river flows through ten countries almost three thousand kilometres from its source within the Black Forest, to its delta estuary in the Black Sea. Donau-Eschingen is the birthplace of the Danube whose source is situated in the gardens of Fürstenberg Castle in which, on the top of the Mother Baar Fountain, is her daughter, the young Danube, who points towards the Black Sea. After around two hundred kilometres in the valley of the Young Danube, the famous river reaches Ulm, an important centre of trade. The Minster Of Ulm is a masterpiece of European Gothic and, rising up a hundred and sixty one metres, its church tower is the highest in the world. Donauwörth developed from a fishing settlement on the Wörnitz island of Ried from where the river flows into the Danube. In 877 A.D. a bridge was built across the Danube and an intersection of European trade routes was created. Linz, the capital city of Upper Austria, owes its good fortune to its strategic location at the junction of the Traun. On the main square, an ornately decorated Trinity Column marks the spot where the mediaeval Salt Road reached the market square. The Babenbergs built the city as a border fortress against the Bavarians. The capital of Hungary, Budapest, is the Pearl On The Danube, an ancient international city. High above the banks of the Danube is Buda’s Castle Hill with its imposing Castle Palace. The Danube ends in the port town of Sulina Delta in which a cathedral serves as a reminder of liberation from the Turks. In this natural universe of land and water, which originated almost ten thousand years ago, nearly three thousand kilometres of river come to an end. The Danube is a multicultural European lifeline, a magnificent waterway that flows through both history and time.

6. St Matthias Cathedral - 2:25
Trinity Square is home to the 13th Century St. Matthias Cathedral and Fishermen's Bastion, which offer panoramic views of the city. The Matthias Church and the Fishermen's bastion are the most beloved sights in Budapest.
7. Fishermen's Bastion 2:44
On the top of the old fortress walls, the Fishermen’s bastion was constructed between 1895-1902. It is named after the fishermen’s guild because according to customs in the middle ages this guild was in charge of defending this part of the castle wall. As a matter of fact it has never had a defending function. Done in neo-gothic style, the seven towers symbolize the seven chieftains, who conquered the land for the Hungarians. The Fishermen’s bastion greatly contributes to the cityscape and offers a breathtaking panorama on the Pest side.

TWO COUNTRIES IN 5 DAYS HUNGARY(BUDAPEST )AND AUSTRIA (VIENNA)
Me and my friends had 5 days in Europe
3days in Budapest and 2 days in Vienna
This World Heritage Site is easily visible from everywhere in Budapest. Exploring Castle Hill's beautiful buildings and cobblestone streets can occupy an entire day.
The central Trinity Square fills daily with tourists visiting the famous Matthias Church.
The Fishermen's Bastion and the Royal Palace, together with the Hungarian National Gallery, are also popular sights.
The Parliament building, a magnificent example of Neo-Gothic architecture, is just over 100 years old. It's the third largest Parliament building in the world, and is also home to the Hungarian Crown Jewels. Tours are available when the National Assembly is not in session
The 700-year-old Matthias Church was the scene of several coronations, including that of Charles IV in 1916, the last Habsburg king. It was also the site for the great Hungarian King Matthias' two weddings, hence its name. The eastern gate of the church was built in the 13th century. Today, Matthias Church remains one of the city's most prominent buildings
Fishermen's Bastion is one of the most fascinating sights on Castle Hill. Although fishermen from Watertown (Víziváros) reputedly defended this part of the city during the Middle Ages, Fishermen’s Bastion was built in the 1890s and it’s purely decorative.
Today, it's a favorite lookoutHeroes’ Square is the largest and most impressive square of the city. The Millennium Monument standing in the middle of the square was erected in 1896 to commemorate the 1000-year-old history of Magyars. The Museum of Fine Arts is located at the north side of the square. The Kunsthalle (Hall of Art), an exhibition hall for the contemporary arts, is at the south side.
Gellért Hill offers some of the best panoramic views of Budapest. Named after bishop Gellért (Gerald), who was thrown to death from the hill by pagans in the fight against Christianity in 1046. At the top of the hill is the Citadel (Citadella) and Budapest's Statue of Liberty is also located here; you can see her from all parts of the city - a statue of a woman holding a palm leaf.

Europe 2018 Episode 23: Budapest
Matthias Church began its life in the 13th c. as the city’s first parish church. The multi-colored tile roof is particularly striking. In front of the church stands the Trinity Column, commemorating the end of the plague epidemic. A wedding was taking place inside the church so unfortunately we weren’t able to see the interior.
In the square beside the church is an equestrian statue of St. Stephen, the first King of Hungary and a key figure in Christianizing the region in the early 11th century. He stands guard at the entrance to Fisherman's Bastion, a neo-Gothic terrace overlooking the town and the Danube. The terrace is named after the medieval fishermen’s guild which defended Budapest against invasion. The seven ornate turrets symbolize the tents of the seven Magyar chieftains who settled the region that ultimately became Hungary.
Heroes’ Square celebrates key figures throughout the history of Hungary, including the seven Magyar leaders. The square was constructed in 1896 as part of the nation’s 1000 year anniversary celebration. A jazz saxophone quartet was performing during our visit.
Budapest’s Central Market is a delightful hubbub of food stalls and souvenir shops. We bought some jewelry, a beer stein, and a Russian-style icon-egg.
The video ends with a series of still photos, most of which were taken by my wife, Pam.

The Old Town of Buda
Matiaksenkirkon taakse, kaupunginmuurin raunioiden päälle rakennettiin vuosina 1901--1905 seitsentorninen, uusromanttinen rakennelma, jota kutsutaan Kalastajalinnakkeeksi. Siitä on tullut yksi kaupungin maamerkeistä, ja se on vaikuttava näky etenkin valaistuna Tonavan puolelta katsottuna. Linnakkeen edustajalla on kuningas Tapani Pyhän ratsastajapatsas.
Walking around the Old Town in Castle Hill we ended up at Uri utca (gentlemen's street) that the upper class used to have their homes. Most of them are in beautiful gothic or baroque style and numerous details. According to many guides from here there used to be access to a huge system of underground passages, germans took advantage of them during WWII.
We also noticed another statue showing Andreas Hadik (1710-1790) a Hungarian noble and commander of habsburg army that managed to capture the Prussian capital Berlin during the Seven Years' World War (1754-63). The funny thing here was the tourist that was trying to climb up there, anyway we laughed and then walked towards Trinity square(Szentháromság Square) that we saw the Holy Trinity monument(pic 3), a nice alabaster column that was erected across Matthias church in 1713 for those who lost their lives by the plague of 1691 and then from another plague in 1709. The church was the highlight of our visit in the Old Town.
