Promo for Broadway to Hollywood with Richard Glazier airing on PBS
Airing on PBS starting in June of 2015--
In this, his third special for Public Television, pianist and historian Richard Glazier offers a very unique view of Broadway and Hollywood through its music. Weaving together interviews, piano performances and commentary Glazier explainsores the history of the great music that has been written for Broadway musicals and Hollywood, films and television.
Among the remarkable people who appear in this special are the late actor Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. (award-winning star of “The F.B.I.” and son of famed violinist Efrem Zimbalist); Broadway veteran Patricia Morison (star of the original production of “Kiss Me Kate”); composer Lalo Schifrin (composer for films and television); author Daniel Selznick (son of famed producer David O. Selznick, grandson of Louis B. Mayer, founder of MGM); composer/conductor David Newman (son of Alfred Newman, longtime head of the 20th Century Fox Music Department and composer of over 200 film scores); ; Miles Kreuger, founder of the Institute of the American Musical; and Gene Allen, former president of the Motion Picture Academy and the Art Directors Guild, and Academy Award-winning art director (“My Fair Lady”) and longtime production manager for famed director George Cukor.
Each of the fascinating interviews relates to, and is shown in conjunction with, a musical selection. For example, we see Patricia Morison talking about her role in “Kiss Me Kate”, her relationship with composer/lyricist Cole Porter and the song “So In Love”. We then see Richard Glazier perform a glorious piano transcription of the song.
The program has historical significance in addition to entertainment value. Glazier brings to this project a lifetime love of Hollywood films and Broadway musicals as well as his proven talent as a host/narrator and pianist.
Richard Glazier was awarded the 1991 Young Artist Prize by the National Federation of Music Clubs a proud sponsor of this program.

Leslie Caron was born in Boulogne-sur-Seine (now Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine), France.
Ms. Caron defined the Golden Age of Hollywood. Appearing in classic MGM Musicals, she was the epitome of chic, glamour, talent and sophistication. Women wanted to be her and men wanted to be with her.

They have more cardholders than VISA, more customers than Amazon, and more outlets than McDonald's. Meet America's librarians. The Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians Through Film is the first comprehensive treatment of the subject of librarians. A vivid blend of factual documentary, feature film and storytelling, it reveals the history and realities of librarianship in an entertaining and appealing context of American movies. Interviews with actual librarians, intercut with film clips of cinematic librarians, examine such issues as literature, books and reading, censorship, library funding, citizenship and democracy. For the first time, we see and understand the real lives and real work of American librarians who for decades have been a cultural force hiding in plain sight.
This film's subject is librarians: who they are, what they do, why they do it, and the impact of their work in people's lives. The underlying meaning is how we express our own humanity, how we listen to ourselves and one another in the realm of the written and read word -- a uniquely human privilege.
Audiences will be surprised and delighted by the fascinating librarians in this entertaining and enlightening film, and will emerge with a greater appreciation for the range of literature and materials available to them thanks to our nation's librarians.

Presidential gravesites: Ronald Reagan
Recorded July 6, 2013. President Reagan is laid to rest just outside his impressive museum and library with an even more impressive view of the surrounding Simi Valley and Northern L.A. landscape. Ronald Wilson Reagan rose from humble beginnings in Illinois to find success as both an A-List Hollywood actor and a prominent politician with service in WWII along the way. In addition to being the 40th president of the United States, he also served as governor of California for two terms. He survived an assassination attempt less than half a year into his presidency and guided the country through a number of difficult events, most notably the Challenger disaster and the end of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. President Reagan is one of two commanders-in-chief laid to rest in California; Richard Nixon's final resting place can be found at his own presidential library approximately 80 miles away in Yorba Linda.
