Many hotels lounges are a place to have a quick drink while waiting for a guest or perhaps a business meeting but The Lounge, a Contemporary Italian Coffee Lounge, at The St Regis Bangkok is a destination unto itself. The St Regis Bangkok is located across from the Royal Sport Club on Rajadamri Road in Bangkok and at the foot f the Rajadamri BTS station a very convenient venue n busy downtown Bangkok.
The Thaifoodies team visited The Lounge at The St Regis Bangkok on a lazy sunday afternoon recently to experience the ambiance, sample a few signature cocktails, to enjoy the bakery counter's goodies and of course sample the cuisine from nearby JoJo restaurant.
From the St Regis Website
A refined, intimate setting on the ground floor of The St. Regis Bangkok, The Lounge is Bangkok’s social retreat for the city’s cultured society.
Perfect for any occasion, from social lunches to informal yet discreet business meetings or an evening drink, The Lounge introduces a premium coffee and tea collection. Combining the professional barista tradition and state-of-the art technology, bespoke hot and cold coffee recipes featuring coffee cocktails are among the signature offerings.
Also, be our guest for a refreshing menu of tea mocktails and iced tea, which are specialty tea-based thirst quenchers that complement exotic tea blends with local and imported spices and ingredients.
Chef De Cuisine Stefano Merlo offers a captivating selection of gourmet creations including Piadina Prosciutto E Stracchino, Piadina Bread, 24 Month “Riserva” Parma Ham, Stracchino Cheese and Wild Rocket; the Fegatini Di Pollo, Chicken Liver Pate on Brioche Bread, Fresh Summer Truffle; and the Salumi Misti and Formaggi D.O.P., Cold Cut Selection and D.O.P. Burrata Cheese.
With special Guest K Pomme, an established restaurateur and mixologist, we sampled a variety of signature cocktails including, Somerset Tea, Green Garden Apple Juice, Negroni, Mimosa and Fontana before hitting the bakery counter! The drinks were wonderful and refreshing on a hot Sunday afternoon. In addition to premium Italian coffee The Lounge offers a wide array hot and colds teas, and non-alcohol drinks so there is something for everyone.
Properly refreshed after our drinks we dove headfirst into the bakery counter at the lounge where we perused a large selection of sweet and savory treats!
Although the sweets on display grabbed our attention we decided to sample a few more savory treats first with a scrumptious Chicken Pie, Chicken Curry Puff, Egg and Ham Panini and Truffle, Potato, and Parma Ham Pizza
The pie, puff and panini were lovely, clearly freshly made with top ingredients and would have been enough of a meal in and of themselves but intrepid food critic Babe, as usual, has her favorite to highlight and that is the Truffle, Potato, and Parma Ham Pizza from nearby Jojo restaurant. When drinking or dining at The Lounge one may order from the complete Jojo menu.
The pizza was an incredible combination of flavors and smells with the aroma of truffle highlighting the melted cheese and soft cubes of baked potato wonderfully offset by the saltiness of cured parma ham. This is a MUST TRY when dining at either The Lounge or JoJo!
Temporarily sated, we turned our eyes to the mouth-watering selection of sweets in the bakery counter. Deciding to make the plunge with some rum chocolates, eclairs, cheesecakes and visually stunning macarons!
It is easy to see pictures of desserts that you may have had several times in the past and dismiss them as just cheese cake or just macaroons but the quality of the desserts at The Lounge really takes these common desserts to a new level of luxury. Each individual pastry, confection, and pie has a unique identity that instantly conveys the sense of quality and indeed craftsmanship that makes dining at a 5 Star property like The St Regis Bangkok an experience not just a meal.
The Lounge at The St Regis Bangkok is the perfect place for a relaxed family outing, especially weekends, we love our lazy Sundays at Thaifoodies! The Lounge and JoJo together have a large selection of gourmet cuisine that will undoubtedly satisfy everyone in your family or group of friends.
The Lounge is an intimate setting perfect for couples, and table of 4-5 with comfy couches and chairs. Kingsman: The Secret Service
Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), the film tells the story of a suave, old-school British superspy who recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into his agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted American entrepreneur.
Calling All Cars: The Blonde Paper Hanger / The Abandoned Bricks / The Swollen Face
The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role.
The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station.
Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation. In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal affairs and community policing than solving crimes, the show's previous mainstay.
Several prominent representations of the LAPD and its officers in television and film include Adam-12, Blue Streak, Blue Thunder, Boomtown, The Closer, Colors, Crash, Columbo, Dark Blue, Die Hard, End of Watch, Heat, Hollywood Homicide, Hunter, Internal Affairs, Jackie Brown, L.A. Confidential, Lakeview Terrace, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Life, Numb3rs, The Shield, Southland, Speed, Street Kings, SWAT, Training Day and the Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and Terminator film series. The LAPD is also featured in the video games Midnight Club II, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel.
The LAPD has also been the subject of numerous novels. Elizabeth Linington used the department as her backdrop in three different series written under three different names, perhaps the most popular being those novel featuring Det. Lt. Luis Mendoza, who was introduced in the Edgar-nominated Case Pending. Joseph Wambaugh, the son of a Pittsburgh policeman, spent fourteen years in the department, using his background to write novels with authentic fictional depictions of life in the LAPD. Wambaugh also created the Emmy-winning TV anthology series Police Story. Wambaugh was also a major influence on James Ellroy, who wrote several novels about the Department set during the 1940s and 1950s, the most famous of which are probably The Black Dahlia, fictionalizing the LAPD's most famous cold case, and L.A. Confidential, which was made into a film of the same name. Both the novel and the film chronicled mass-murder and corruption inside and outside the force during the Parker era. Critic Roger Ebert indicates that the film's characters (from the 1950s) represent the choices ahead for the LAPD: assisting Hollywood limelight, aggressive policing with relaxed ethics, and a straight arrow approach.
