In today's video we are staying in downtown Tokyo again hitting up the Honjo Life Safety Learning Center. Within the fire department here, groups and individuals can learn what to do in emergency situations they may face here in Japan - including fire, floods and earthquakes.
We began by picking up free tickets from inside the center and are assigned a group time (was not a long wait). From there we were taken into a room where we watched a 20 minute video about earthquakes in Japan, and what you should do if you experiences one.
Our first part of the day allowed us to learn about fire extinguishers and how to use them. We played with a simulation where we put out a fire in our living room.
Our second simulation was us seeing how much weight flood water had when you tried opened house and car doors. It was way harder than you think!
The third simulation was an earthquake simulator. Here we experienced several forms of earthquake at the 7.0 magnitude level. It felt unreal.
The last of the simulations was of a wind and rain storm. Here Akane was placed into a room and had the water come rushing in!
It was quite the experience, and one I think others would really enjoy learning about when in Tokyo.

ISPRM2019 introduction movie
The Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (JARM), a scientific society that represents the Japanese community of rehabilitation medicine, is pleased to announce its hosting of 13th World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) during June 9-13, 2019, at the Kobe Convention Center, in Kobe City, Japan.
The JARM was established in 1963 as one of the principal national societies of medicine in Japan, the earliest rehabilitation society in Asia, and is thus celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. We currently have 11,500 members, mainly physiatrists. We have had a certification system for physiatrists in the national medical service since 1980, and more than 2,350 physicians are certified and actively working in the field of rehabilitation medicine today.
This congress in Japan will provide an excellent opportunity for international clinicians and scholars in the field of rehabilitation medicine to share the fruits and findings of basic research, clinical practice, scientific technologies, health policy, and philosophy of rehabilitation medicine, all of which are fundamental aspects of the mission of the ISPRM. In conjunction with this meeting, 56th Annual Meeting of Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (JARM 2019) will be held simultaneously, enabling participants to learn about Japanese rehabilitation more deeply.
The tradition of Japanese hospitality is rooted in its culture of courtesy and consideration for others, especially visitors. In addition to gaining valuable scientific knowledge at the ISPRM congress, we believe that participants will enjoy their stay in Japan with our clean and safe cities, renowned hospitality, and unique culture.

My Japanese class during our study abroad in Aoyama Gakuin University, went on a class trip to the Honjo Life Safety Learning Center (Honjo Bosaikan) in Tokyo. Half of the building is actually a fire station. We got to experience 3 natural disaster simulators: earthquake, fire, and typhoon. This video is the earthquake simulator. They were all real-life scenarios, so that's why it makes it horrifying. As horrifying to know these disaster happen, it's fun learning how to prep for them in this disaster prep center.
