Hopkins Falls in Flood
After recent rains, the Hopkins River began flooding turning the quiet and tranquil Hopkins Falls into a raging torrent.
Ellerslie on Hopkins River, South West Victoria, Australia
Historic Ellerslie contains three bridges - one currently used, one timber dating from the goldfields days when this bridge was the scene of gold rush traffic north and south, and the stone ford that was an early settlers crossing point. The Hopkins River flows to the coast at Warrnambool but starts near Ararat - a long journey through some of the most productive and beautiful countryside you could ever hope to see. So stop a while down beside the old bridge in Ellerslie, enjoy the history, the beauty, and this wonderful river. Across the river from this spot is the Ellerslie War Memorial - also a lovely place to stop and enjoy looking down on the river while honoring the memory of local men who fought for Australia.
