Audioglimt - Magic Soul of Flutes, Daughter of the Lake
This is a 45-minute edit, taken from the live performance at Wrap arts centre (in Bergen, Norway) on the 2nd of June 2017.
Andean Flutes - Carlos Enrique Salinas Arana
Guitar & Charango - Jose Simbana
Percussion - Julio Valencia
Audioglimt is a series of concerts produced by Wrap arts centre, where bands / artists from various genres are invited to perform their own unique soundtracks to a film which they choose themselves.
Carlos Salinas was born and raised in the Andes of Peru, where he first learned to play various traditional wind instruments. Since then he has travelled extensively in Europe and Latin America, playing Andean folk music with various ensembles, and collaborating with performing arts projects.
For the first Audioglimt concert of 2017, Salinas found the choice of film to be obvious. Daughter of the Lake (Hija de la Laguna) by Ernesto Cabellos Damián documents the struggle between a native subsistence farmer who owns her own land, and the aggressive Yanacocha mining company. It was released in 2015, and highlights what is still an ongoing struggle.
Together with Jose Simbana (Ecuador) and Julio Valencia (Chile) Salinas performs extended versions of his own compositions, which are woven together with the film. These compositions are rooted in the Andean folk tradition and what he calls medicine music (musica medisina).
The type of mining advocated by Yanacocha (and it's owners, Newmont) has been responsible for the destruction of vast natural resources, and has devastated the quality of life experienced by indigenous people who otherwise thrive in the unique natural landscapes of Latin America.
We were not able to obtain an appropriate license for the screening the film at this Audioglimt event, and all excerpts seen in this video are therefore respectfully hijacked. Daughter of the Lake can be seen in full on Netflix, for those who may be interested.
Audioglimt is produced by Wrap arts centre in Bergen, Norway, with support from Arts Council Norway and Hordaland County Council.

SUMMARY
=======
Bergen (Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈbærɡn̩] (listen)), historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Hordaland on the west coast of Norway. At the end of the first quarter of 2018, the municipality's population was 280,216, and the Bergen metropolitan region has about 420,000 inhabitants. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. The municipality covers 465 square kilometres (180 sq mi) and is on the peninsula of Bergenshalvøyen. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on Byfjorden, 'the city fjord', and the city is surrounded by mountains; Bergen is known as the 'city of seven mountains'. Many of the extra-municipal suburbs are on islands. Bergen is the administrative centre of Hordaland, and consists of eight boroughs - Arna, Bergenhus, Fana, Fyllingsdalen, Laksevåg, Ytrebygda, Årstad, and Åsane.
Trading in Bergen may have started as early as the 1020s. According to tradition, the city was founded in 1070 by king Olav Kyrre and was named Bjørgvin, 'the green meadow among the mountains'. It served as Norway's capital in the 13th century, and from the end of the 13th century became a bureau city of the Hanseatic League. Until 1789, Bergen enjoyed exclusive rights to mediate trade between Northern Norway and abroad and it was the largest city in Norway until the 1830s when it was surpassed by the capital, Christiania (now known as Oslo). What remains of the quays, Bryggen, is a World Heritage Site. The city was hit by numerous fires over the years. The Bergen School of Meteorology was developed at the Geophysical Institute beginning in 1917, the Norwegian School of Economics was founded in 1936, and the University of Bergen in 1946. From 1831 to 1972, Bergen was its own county. In 1972 the municipality absorbed four surrounding municipalities and became a part of Hordaland county.
The city is an international center for aquaculture, shipping, offshore petroleum industry and subsea technology, and a national centre for higher education, media, tourism and finance. Bergen Port is Norway's busiest in terms of both freight and passengers with over 300 cruise ship calls a year bringing nearly a half a million passengers to Bergen, a number that has doubled in 10 years. Almost half of the passengers are German or British. The city's main football team is SK Brann and the city's unique tradition is the buekorps. Natives speak a distinct dialect, known as 'Bergensk'. The city features Bergen Airport, Flesland, Bergen Light Rail, and is the terminus of the Bergen Line. Four large bridges connect Bergen to its suburban municipalities.
Bergen has a mild winter climate, though with a lot of precipitation. During December - March, the temperature difference between Bergen and Oslo can be up to 30 degrees Celsius, despite the fact that both cities are at approximately 60 degrees North. The Gulf Stream keeps the sea relatively warm, considering the latitude, and the mountains protect the city from cold winds from the north, north-east and east.

Welcome to Tysnes
Facts about Tysnes:
Covers: 255 Sq. km
Population: Approx. 2800
Centre: Uggdal
The municipality of Tysnes is a group of islands south of Bergen on the Norwegian west coast. For over a hundred years Tysnes has been one of the most popular vacation spots in the southwest of Norway, which can be attributed to its wonderful nature and clean environment.
You can find traces of ancient places in Uggdal, Onarheim and Årbakka. In Uggdalsdalen remnants of an ancient thoroughfare are shown in stone-paved roads and stepping stones over the river. There are also traces of iron age settlement. The islands of Tysnes were already in ancient times visited from all over the region, by people who gathered for religious ceremonies, thus upholding the status as a cult place.
Along the coastline, travelers by boat will find many well hidden places behind inlets and islands with beaches and good fishing spots. Varied vegetation, hilly terrain, mountains, water, woods and long seashores give a foundation for rich animal and bird life.
The nature is characterised by shiny slopes of naked rock and fields of heather in the west, to exuberant forests in the east, lowland and its shores, which includes nice and sheltered swimming places, to the mountains with great ski and hiking grounds, and a panoramic view to the mountains surrounding Bergen. One can enjoy mountain plateaus and altitudes that exceed 750 metres above sea level. One can also enjoy the sight of the glacier Folgefonna in the east, and all the beautiful islands in the great ocean to the south and west.
The main connection to the south is the ferry from Hodnanes on to Jektevik on the island of Stord. To the north the connection goes by ferry from Våge to Halhjem and Bergen. The Tysnes Island is connected to the mainland on the east side by a bridge across Lukksund, and one can continue on to Bergen or Hardanger on this road. Tysnes is a major tourist area with 1400 vacation homes.
Tysnes has traditionally been a farm, fishing, and seafaring community. Today farming is still relatively strong, but the majority of the sailors have moved on to work in the North Sea (oil). The fish farming industry has increased sharply on Tysnes since the mid-eighties.
