Horse Riding Tour in Terelj National Park, Mongolia
Autumn Riding with Stone Horse Expeditions in Mongolia's Gorkhi Terelj National Park
Fall is a great time for riding in Mongolia. The colors of autumn offer a visual feast, making the grasslands look magnificent in a multitude of hues of yellow, red and brown. Typically, the days are sunny and warm. With the setting sun, the day's warmth gives in to crisp temperatures - and cozy evenings in a heated tent that Stone Horse Expeditions takes along on these late season trips. Nomadic livestock herders begin winter preparations, grazing their herds to let them gain strength for another winter ahead...Large herds of horses roaming free in the grasslands under a big sky are one of the great sights during fall expeditions.

Horseback Riding Tour in Mongolia: SoYoon Comments on Stone Horse Expeditions & Mongolian Travel
SoYoon rode with Stone Horse Expeditions and Travel in the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, Mongolia, in early August 2012. Wildflowers were still in full bloom making travel through the Mongolian park and wilderness scenery spectacular.
Mongolian Horse Song and Sunset in Terelj National Park
The man in the traditional costume is singing a folk song about the horses. We had just finished a day of hunting, shooting, and horseback riding and returned to our camp for dinner of lamb, sausages, cheese and bread with a special treat of marmot. Aside from all the booze we had milk tea and horse milk. I show our camp site and the awesome sunset. We started a fire using dead shrubs from a nearby river. The stuff was hard to light up because it was half wet. I used the Pathfinder 5 ferro rod with the Mini Inferno to get it started. The locals were impressed. They normally use a blow torch to get fires started.

Driving in Mongolia – Gorkhi-Terelj National Park | Drivelapse Part I
Our drive from Gorkhi-Terelj National Park back to UlaanBaatar, capital of Mongolia. We drive past the famous Turtle Rock, on some treacherously pot-holed dirt roads up the mountain, and through a quick but thunderous torrent of rain. I'm driving my mother-in-law's Nissan Qashqai, and so I am a little more cautious than approximately everyone else on the road. This is Part I.
In the next video, we'll drive into the city of Ulaanbaatar, through some hilariously gridlocked traffic.

Trip to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park in Mongolia
Gorkhi-Terelj is one of Mongolia’s national parks, 55 km north east from Ulaanbaatar city. Unlike the nearby steppes, it has mountains and trees, including large stands of tamaracks that turn golden in the fall. The park has a magnificent alpine landscape, many rock formations for rock climbers, and includes a famous formations named Turtle Rock (Melkhii Khad) for the shape it resembles.
Well known as sightseeing destination, gigantesque rock made and carved into a turtle by only wind and rain water, which is just off the main road into the park. Many people have called it «the Switzerland of Mongolia»; it is and excellent place for horse or camel riding, hiking inside the rock and nearby.
The legend states that the King Galdanboshigt hid all his treasures during the war with Manchu Troops in 1600. Since then it’s worshiped by the locals as the treasure rock bringing wealth to those who visit.
One of the 'must go' attraction while you are at the Terelj National Park - ideally take a horse ride to go to Aryabal Meditation Temple and enjoy the ride and scenery from the top.
Mongolia Horseback Adventure Tours - Kim's Comments on Stone Horse Travel in Mongolia
Kim, from Colorado, USA, joined the early September horse riding expedition into the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, Mongolia. Although she hadn't ridden a horse in some years, she took to it like a pro. The early autumn colors and landscape scenery were fantastic and the weather was the best for the season.
