HOKKAIDO VLOG 01: Things to do in Noboribetsu and Niseko
It is my first time in Japan and I am so happy that I traveling with Philippine Airlines and some of my blogger friends (yes are are now all friends after the trip) to the island of Hokkaido. Visiting Hokkaido in December, we expected it to be a magical white paradise. And it was indeed (and even more). We arrived a few days after a snow storm (the first snow of the season) and the temperature was below zero most of the time.
For this trip, we explored several parts of Hokkaido. We went to Hokkaido's major cities which are Noboribetsu, Niseko, Otaru and Sapporo. Because it was such an epic and adventure-filled trip, I decided to split my vlog into two parts. For the first part (which is this video), I will tour you around Noboribetsu and Niseko, plus a bit of our flight from Manila (via Philippine Airlines' new A321 Neo) and what you will see at the New Chitose Airport.

Noboribetsu, a city located southwest of Chitose Airport, is accessible by bus and/or train with approximately 1-hour travel time. This city is known for its natural hot springs (Onsen). Apart from the must-visit Onsen street and Jigokudani Hell Valley, there are a several theme parks, e.g. NIXE Marine Park, Date Jidaimura Cultural Park, and Noboribetsu Bear Park worth visiting too.
I personally like Dai-ichi Takimotokan Onsen the best, there are many varieties of Onsen pool available. It feels really good after the bath. :)

Hokkaido Autumn Gems Part I: Things to do in Noboribetsu onsen hot spring
Most people know Hokkaido for it's winter and powdery snow, but NOT known to most is that Hokkaido can be very beautiful in the Autumn too. Livelaughtravel.net recently embarked on a trip and got the locals to share us the best things to do in Hokkaido during the autumn season, and we will be sharing these locations in our 3 part Hokkaido Autumn Gems series. So watch this space as we uncover the best places in Hokkaido during Autumn.
In Part I of our Hokkaido Autumn Gems series, we visited Noboribetsu which is just an hours drive from Chitose Airport. Noboribetsu is best known for it's onsen with thanks to their Hell's Valley, a crater that was created after a volcano imploded 10,000 years ago. Today, Hell's valley, also known as Jigokundani, is the source of the city's Hot Spring Waters and tourist from all over the world come just to enjoy their onsen. Aside from the amazing onsen, we also explored the rest of the city and what it has to offer, including their Noboribetsu Bear Park, a ninja/samurai theme park called Noboribetsu Date Jidai and many others!

Come follow me on my adventures through Hokkaido. Hokkaido is the most northern Island in Japan. This week my friend and I decided to take a trip through Toyako and Noboribetsu.
Noboribetsu is famous for its onsens and oni statues. It was extremely cold in the valley so I couldn't take too much footage. I'll be better next time. ;)

Tomakomai City - Things to do in Hokkaido
When visiting Hokkaido, consider a destination more local and more enhanced such as Tomakomai which is only 20-30 minutes from the Airport and 45 minutes from Sapporo.
Tomakomai is known as the national centre for all things related to Ice such as Ice Skating, Ice Hockey and Ice Festivals.
The national training centres for such festivals are located here in this home town.
Whilst Niseko and Sapporo has it's own share of festivities and accolades, a more local feel and destination, alongside with it's eagerness to welcoming tourism, Tomakomai City is another go to place for your Hokkaido experience.

Hokkaido Bicycle Tour_ Part 5: Exploring Mt. YOTEI / Niseko
R&R (Relax and Riding) around the town of Niseko, known for its popularity during winter seasons and its iconic National park Mt. Yotei. A 1'898 meter elevation stratovolcano I dreamed of climbing was an opportunity failure due to my indecisions and unorganized Bicycle touring schedule. I had 3 chances to climb this volcano leaving one of my few goals unfulfilled on this tour. Jojo's café, Niseko exquisite cuisine, Hokkaido ice cream, many places I've visited and great people quite made up for my losses.

Noboribetsu Onsen Winter Festival 2019
Winter festival at Noboribetsu Onsen is an elaborate affair. Held every year from 3rd - 4th Feb, the locals give thanks to the onsen gods for their blessing and pray for the continuation of hot spring water in the year to come.
The highlight of the festival is the Hot Spring Water Battle, at around 8:30 p.m. on the 4th. Around 50-60 young men from the area are split into two groups - red and white and engage in a water battle wearing nothing but loinclothes. If the red team wins, it symbolizes a rise in the temperature of the onsens. On the other hand, victory for the white team means an increased abundance of hot spring water.
