Multnomah Falls BEFORE THE FIRE | Waterfalls of Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
Multnomah Falls has been on my bucket list since I saw pictures of it years ago on Instagram. It is cooler in person than in pictures. We shot this video in May 2016, a year before the Eagle Creek fire devastated this area in September 2017. The trail to the top reopened in May 2019, and you can see what it looks like now in our AFTER THE FIRE video:
On this little road trip, we headed east through Washington past some very scenic overlooks. We crossed the Bridge of the Gods into Oregon and explain where the name came from. Then we checked out the waterfall area of the Columbia River Gorge, stopping at Horsetail Falls, Multnomah Falls, and Latourell Falls.
We didn't have the time to hike to Oneonta Falls. Next time!

Rescue from Horsetail Falls
Flying with the Phantom at Horsetail Falls along the Columbia Gorge by Portland Oregon. I got too close to the cliff and clipped a tree and crashed. I called a rock climber to help me out. I want to thank Mike Ryan at Portland Rock Gym for risking his life to save my Phantom. After the walk to the top of the falls, he repelled over 50 feet to where the Phantom had come to a rest. The gimbal was hanging on by two rubber dampers so he pulled it off and put the gimbal in his pocket before climbing back to the top. There was no damage to the Phantom. The gimbal had been twitching for 5 hours and was dirty. I had to take one of the motors from the gimbal apart and remove a small stone in it that was keeping it from turning.
Horsetail and Ponytail Falls - Columbia River Gorge
May, 2009 - Horsetail is the lower falls. A short hike up the hill leads to Ponytail Falls, which is like a raging firehose in the spring.
Oregon's Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls

We stayed at a local state park right of the Hood River in Oregon outside of Portland. For sure one of the best returns on waterfalls near Hood River. This area of Oregon is so pretty. Some of our favorite waterfalls were of course Multnomah Falls, Horsetail Falls, Latourell Falls, and Wahkeena Falls. Fulltime RV travel has so many perks.

Columbia River Gorge waterfalls in winter
A quick visit to see a few of the sights after a winter cold spell in early Feb 2014. National Scenic Area just east of Portland acts as border between Oregon and Washington.
Tour begins at Vista House with stops at Latourell Falls, Shepperds Dell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Multnomah Falls, Oneonta Gorge and Horsetail Falls cascading into a unique winter feature I call the Ice Volcano.
