Horsethief Canyon by Drone (Drumheller, Canada)
This is beautiful Horsethief Canyon, captured with the DJI Phantom 4. This area is near Drumheller, Alberta and is a MUST-DO for anyone looking to see the incredible Canadian badlands. You can simply look at them from the carpark or hike right down into them. We highly recommend the latter!

En route - Drumheller vers le Canyon Horsethief - Munson - Alberta - Canada
La Route 838, qui mène entre autres au Canyon Horsethief, est également connue sous le nom de Sentier des Dinosaures Nord (North Dinosaur Trail).
En fait, la route 838 au nord et les routes 575 et 837 au sud forment une route touristique circulaire dans les Badlands situés de chaque côté des rives de la rivière Red Deer.
Elle offre d'excellents points de vue sur les formations rocheuses puisque cette route passe à proximité de celles-ci.

Aerial video of the Horsethief Canyon, a popular tourist attraction in the Canadian Badlands near Drumheller, Alberta. Managed to sneak in our flying just before a busload of tourists arrived. Filmed with my DJI Mavic Pro on July 18, 2017.
Horsethief Canyon
Horsethief Canyon is found 16 km northwest of the town of Drumheller, in the province of Alberta, Canada. The name Horsethief was given to this area because of an illegal horse trade network used in the last century. Horses being smuggled illegally between the United States and Alberta were supposedly hidden in this canyon, but the true origin of the name is not clear.

Le Canyon Horsethief est situé à 16 km de Drumheller, juste après le musée Royal Tyrrell.
Il a été nommé ainsi vers la fin du XIXe siècle parce que des milliers de chevaux qui étaient souvent rassemblés dans cette vallée ont été volés. Ceux-ci portaient une marque sur leur corps pour les différencier. Cependant, ils ont disparu et sont revenus avec une marque différente.
L'endroit semble peu fréquenté. Il n'y avait que deux personnes lorsque nous y sommes arrivés. Peut-être est-ce dû à la période de l'année. Nous sommes tout de même en septembre.
Les points de vue du haut du canyon sont vraiment spectaculaires. On y observe une multitude de monticules aux formes variées et ayant des stries multicolores. Ceux-ci se dressent à l'infini dans une profonde vallée.
Des milliers d'année ont permis à l'érosion de façonner cet étonnant paysage.
Il semble y avoir plusieurs sentiers qui descendent dans la vallée. Nous avons pris un sentier situé à gauche du canyon puisque celui semblait plus sécuritaire pour effectuer la descente.
La randonnée dans ce sentier nous a permis d'observer ces formations rocheuses sous des angles différents et même de découvrir de belles cheminées de fée que nous n'aurions pu voir si nous étions restés au sommet.
Les possibilités de randonnée dans ce canyon sont énormes. Cependant, comme c'était la dernière journée de notre séjour dans l'ouest canadien et qu'il restait encore d'autres attraits touristiques à visiter, il fallait bien que l'on rebrousse chemin.
A notre retour, nous avons eu l'opportunité d'interagir avec des chiens de prairie. Ceux-ci n'était pas du tout effrayés, bien au contraire! Mon conjoint en a profité pour leur donner des morceaux de pain. Ils semblaient ne pas les avaler, mais plutôt les cumuler dans leurs bajoues et ils allaient ensuite les porter dans leurs terriers. Peut-être faisaient-ils des provisions pour l'hiver! :)
Ils étaient vraiment mignons et surtout tellement attachants! Une vidéo suivra...

A notre retour, nous avons eu l'opportunité d'interagir avec des écureuils terrestres de Richardson.
Le premier que nous avons aperçu semblait grignoter un morceau de carotte. Il semblait très à l'aise, malgré notre présence.
