HORSEY WINDPUMP - Norfolk, England - National Trust | UK Days Out
We visit National Trust property Horsey Windpump in Norfolk, England. We climb to the top of Horsey Windpump for some lovely views across the Norfolk Broads, then take a walk from Horsey Windpump to beautiful Horsey beach where we see some seals frolicking in the sea.

Horsey Windpump's sails turning for the first time May 2019
On the evening of Wednesday 29th May 2019, the sails turned on Horsey Windpump for the first time in 76 years. On this first successful test of the newly restored windpump, the sails turned beautifully and without any problems for a full hour.

★★Holiday; Day 4★★ The Horsey Windpump (03/08/2015)
This is the 4th Day of my Holiday to Norfolk. In this video we have the Horsey Windpump. Horsey Windpump is a windpump or drainage windmill in the care of the National Trust in the village of Horsey, on The Broads near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. The structure is a grade II* listed building.[The present structure was built in 1912 on the foundations of the 18th-century Horsey Black Mill.[2]
The windpump was working until it was struck by lightning in 1943. It was acquired by the National Trust in 1948 from the Buxton Family and has been restored. The mill's damaged sails were removed in 1956, and replacement sails and fantail were installed in 1962. The Great Storm of 1987 caused further damage, and repair works were required before the building could reopen to visitors in 1990. The Buxton family continue to manage the Horsey estate, emphasising nature conservation. Because of this, the estate has become an internationally important wildlife site. On the estate there are waymarked circular walks, the main one being the path via Brograve Mill; the walk provides great views across Horsey Mere and access to the beach at Horsey Gap. There are many windmills in this particular area, including West Somerton Mill, Heigham Holmes Mill, Brograve Mill, and Lambrigg Mill. Horsey Windpump is open daily from March to October. The sails were removed again in 2014 following damage during winter storms, to be replaced by traditional sails that can open and close to control the amount of wind caught.

Horsey Windpump Restoration - New top for Norfolk Broads landmark
May 16th 2017. Time-lapse of cap and tail fin installation on Horsey Windpump on the Norfolk Broads.
The whole lift and installation took about 45 minutes. Once the cap was in place (if still being secured) there was little more movement to film, so I cut at about 12 minutes into lifting operation.
The 19th century windpump is scheduled to have it's new sails, which were removed in 2014, reinstated later this summer.
There are two timelapse sequences, the first just lift prep and testing. Timelapse frames were shot at intervals of 2 seconds.

Walking at Horsey mill Norfolk
As we arrived at Horsey, the fire brigade were leaving. It seems the peat had caught fire. Peat is how the Norfolk Broads began hundreds of years ago. It was dug out and used as a form of fuel.
We walked far too far in the heat and to round it off I know have blisters :(
Raising the roof at Horsey Windpump
As part of a big restoration project at Horsey Windpump in the Norfolk Broads, we filmed a timelapse of the restored cap being lifted back in place.

Thelnetham Windmill
Wonderful little tower mill set in the heart of the north Suffolk countryside in the village of Thelnetham. Built in 1819, the mill replaced an earlier post mill which had been dismantled and moved to the South Norfolk market town of Diss. By the late 1970s, Thelnetham Mill had become derelict and was bought by a group of mill enthusiasts who, in 1980, began what became a seven year restoration.
This film was taken on Sunday May 11th 1014 when it was open for viewing as part of National Mills Weekend. Please check their website for future open days:
