New shepherd carving in the Human Nature Garden in Horsham Park in Horsham
There is a new shepherd carving in the Human Nature Garden in Horsham Park in Horsham.
The carving has been done by Woodland Centre Chainsaw Carvers, in a joint project from Horsham in Bloom and Horsham District Council.
The project has been funded entirely from developer contributions.
Transcript:
Hello I'm Evan Giles, I'm Parks and Countryside Manager for Horsham District Council.
Can you tell us a bit about this project Evan?
Well my friend here, we haven't actually named him yet, he stands in the Human Nature Garden in Horsham Park, he's newly created actually just in the last couple of days he's appeared out of a Cedar tree, which was severely storm damaged.
The tree had to be removed for safety reasons and so someone had the wonderful idea to be able to create a carving of a shepherd, we've got the sheep already here and the sheep were being a bit of a nuisance and trying to escape and that sort of thing.
So we thought we did need a shepherd to be able to assist us and here he is.
How has this project been funded?
Well this is a partnership project between Horsham District Council and Horsham in Bloom. Horsham in Bloom actually leases the Human Nature Garden here from the District Council.
So it is their (Horsham in Bloom) initiative which the Council has very much supported.
This actual sculpture has been funded through developer contributions so it hasn't actually cost the Council any money at all, it hasn't cost the community any money because it is money that has come through from building developers so it's a win win situation.
I'm Dave Lucas, from Woodland Centre Chainsaw Carvers, and I've just been here at Horsham creating the shepherd for you guys to go with the sheep that you've already got.
Then I've also done another couple of sheep and a sheepdog that's just about to be installed down there, that was three days of work, about a day and a half of carving and a day and a half of finishing and that's the finished article.

Hi Guys, this is a film from Horsham at Americarna 2018, this was the second year of this annual event, earlier in the year I went to the Horsham Italia event which is another annual event which involves the whole town as part of the proceedings. Horsham is an amazing place to go to, lovely town centre huge park with everything you could want and as we found dogs everywhere. Mother and I love the place, there is also one of the best kitchen wear shops I have ever visited in the town, which also doubles up as a cafe coffee shop. The event was raising money for the St Catherines Hospice to help provide hospice care in west sussex ans east surrey.
The event was very well organised with street foods, stalls selling clothes and everything else, live music in the form of rock n roll, lots of people dressed for the occasion too in classic american attire, shop windows were dressed to suit everything was done really well. Looking to go to the Italia weekend again next year and maybe plan some more visits to the town for a good look around and to see more dogs lol, never seen a place with so many.
As i always say love like you have never loved before the one you love the most, your true love will find you one day, do all you can to never stop loving them, you never know when they could go. Love you baby bell so so very much Nom Nom xxx.
