VISITING AN ANCIENT JAPANESE SAMURAI CASTLE IN HIMEJI
I’m making my way down from Kyoto to Hiroshima on the bullet train now and I wanted to stop off at the famous Himeji castle. Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites in the country.
It dates back to the Feudal period in Japan and i was super impressed to walk around the castle and imagine what it would have been like back in the days of the Samurai.

Nagai Kafū - Yukiyoe
Kaf? Nagai (December 3, 1879 – 30 April 1959) was the pseudonym of the Japanese author, playwright, essayist, and diarist Nagai S?kichi His works are noted for their depictions of life in early 20th-century Tokyo, especially among geisha, prostitutes, cabaret dancers, and other denizens of the city's lively entertainment districts.
Kaf? was born at Kanetomi-ch? 45, Koishikawa-ku (now Kasuga-ch?, Bunky?, Tokyo), the eldest son of Nagai Ky?ichir? (?? ???), his father, who was 28 years old, and Nagai Tsune (?? ?), 19. Ky?ichir? was a scholar, bureaucrat, and businessman who later became known for his Chinese poetry. Kaf? had three brothers and one sister. When the second son was born in 1883, Kaf? was sent to live with his mother's family. In 1884, he attended the kindergarten affiliated with the Ochanomizu women's teachers' college, and his father visited Europe on government business. Kaf? returned to his parents' home in January 1886, when he started elementary school.
In 1891, he attended a private English-language school in Kanda, Tokyo. In 1894, he became ill, perhaps with scrofula, and spent several months in 1895 in a hospital in Odawara. He began studying the shakuhachi and Chinese poetry in 1896 at the age of 17. In February of the following year, he made his first of many visits to the Yoshiwara red-light district. The same year, he graduated from middle school and failed the entrance exam for university. With his mother and younger brothers, he visited Shanghai, where his father was working for the shipping company Nippon Yusen. He returned to Japan in the autumn and enrolled in the Chinese-language department of the institutions for foreign-language educations affiliated with the Higher Commercial School.
In 1898, he began writing short stories and studied with the novelist Hirotsu Ry?r?. In 1899 he became involved in writing and performing rakugo and dropped out of the foreign-language school. In 1900, he began publishing short stories. In 1901, he got a job briefly as a newspaper reporter and later began studying French.
Nagai's writing style varied depending on his genre and audience. Reflecting his study of classical Chinese and his wide reading of premodern Japanese texts, his diaries and some of his essays are written in the highly literary bungo style. Most of his plays and novels, in contrast, are written in a modern style typical of the era in which he wrote, and the dialogue spoken by his characters seems particularly natural and unaffected.

Ambulances Paying for Tolls in Japan
Ambulances Paying for Tolls in Japan
This is right. An ambulance stopping to pay for tolls when they are in an emergency to get someone to the hospital and have to stop to pay for the toll road. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Watch Passenger Set Himself on FIRE Inside BULLET TRAIN in Japan | Kills Another Woman and Himself
Inferno horror on Japanese bullet train costs two lives as passenger commits suicide by setting himself on fire… and a witness suffers a fatal heart attack
Passengers poured out of the carriages to escape the smoke after the man set himself on fire near the toilets
One woman and her young baby were seen escaping the carriage
A large number of passengers are in hospital with smoke inhalation
Two people are believed to have died of heart attacks in a bizarre incident on a Japanese bullet train after another passenger committed suicide by setting himself alight.
The fast-moving train made an emergency stop while speeding from Tokyo towards Osaka after a carriage filled with smoke when the male passenger poured oil over himself and set himself on fire.
A Japanese Railways spokesman confirmed that the billowing smoke near the burning passenger poured through the carriage and two people suffered cardiac arrest.
The passenger who set himself alight also died from his severe burns.
The Nozomi bullet train came to an urgent stop, with passengers staggering to the door and jumping out as white smoke surrounded them.
Officials said later that the two confirmed deaths were the man who set himself alight and a woman passenger who suffered a heart attack from smoke inhalation.
The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said smoke filled the carriage after a blast occurred in the toilet.
When the train came to a stop after the emergency button was pressed the driver found the still-burning body of the man.
Aside from the suicide victim and the woman passenger who died, there were serious concerns for another passenger who had suffered cardiac arrest.
Officials said the number of injured - and possible deaths - was expected to rise as hospitals received at least 20 people suffering the effects of smoke inhalation
Commentators on the Japan Today website described the suicide man as a coward, with one questioning whether there was anywhere safe any more.
The passenger who set himself alight was reported to have first doused himself with oil near a toilet as the train was travelling between Shin-Yokohama and Odawara stations in the Kanazawa Prefecture.
Several other passengers, as well as the two who suffered cardiac arrests, have been injured and are receiving treatment.’
Another official said later that the suicidal passenger was a man, but no further details were available about his identity or motive.
Japan’s bullet train system - known as shinkansen - has a perfect safety record. No-one has been killed in a crash in the 50 years it has been operating, despite trains reaching speeds of up to 320 kph.
‘If he wanted to kill himself, he should not involve other innocent people,’ another person wrote.
A rail official said later that it was believed the death toll was two - the suicide victim and an innocent passenger.
But he said that two other passengers were in a serious condition and had been rushed to hospital
