Hot Water Beach - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year - Backpacker Guide New Zealand
Day 8: We’re digging our own hot pool at Hot Water Beach in the Coromandel! That’s today’s activity on New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we do 365 Days: 365 Activities.
Yesterday - Day 7 -
Tomorrow – Day 9 –
About this video:
We’re in the Coromandel region of New Zealand! Today’s activity is to dig our very own hot pool at Hot Water Beach. An underwater spring feeds hot water and emerges under the sand. We need to dig to get to the Hot Water Beach hot pool then let the ocean cool down the temperature.
To get to Hot Water Beach in the Coromandel, we hire bikes from the Hot Water Beach Top 10 Holiday Park, as well as some spades to dig a hole! We bike to Hot Water Beach, find the perfect spot, and start digging our hot pool. Or at least, one of us does!
After relaxing on Hot Water Beach and taking in the Coromandel scenery, we hop back on our bikes and cycle through the forest. Next, we head back to the Hot Water Beach Top 10 Holiday Park.

Top 10 Holiday Park Hot Water Beach, Coromandel. Aerial Video
Where do we normally stay overnight in Coromandel Peninsula?
Hot Water Beach is the geothermal point of interest here in Coromandel. Looks lake a labyrinth from the ground, but indeed - very clear and neat from the air. The break is pumping, low tide is now, fish and chips is to be served later - looks like cool place to spend day or two
Hot Water Beach TOP 10
Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park is a 700m walk from the famous Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel, known for its volcanic springs that seep through the beach sand at low tide. We offer a variety of accommodation from Deluxe Family Villas to camp sites all nestled in our award winning holiday park, voted The Best Grounds in New Zealand by HAPNZ.
New Zealand Part 1 - Lake Tarawera [Hot Water Beach]
I went to New Zealand's north island for a week; my first day I drove from Auckland to Rotorua. I visited Lake Tarawera for the 15km scenic hike, and the thermal water hot beach! Lake Tarawera sits at the base of Mt. Tarawera an active thermal site. The water coming out of the ground was so hot a fisherman was boiling his potatoes and cooking his freshly caught fish.
A great afternoon in New Zealand.

CATHEDRAL COVE (Narnia) & Hot Water Beach, Coromandel Peninsula, NEW ZEALAND
February 5, 2017.
Road trip to Cathedral Cove & Hot Water Beach.
Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve is on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand. The cave and beach was used as the tunnel through which the Pevensie children first re-enter Narnia in the movie version of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. More recently the cove was used as one of the locations in the music video for the song Can't Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton.
Hot Water Beach is a beach on Mercury Bay on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. Within two hours either side of low tide, it is possible to dig into the sand allowing hot water to escape to the surface forming a hot water pool. The water, with a temperature as hot as 64 °C (147 °F), filters up from two underground fissures located close to each other.[2] These natural springs can be found on the beach opposite the off-shore rocks. Visitors often dig large holes and relax and soak in the thermal water.

Hot Water Beach - New Zealand VLOG# [HD 1080p]
We went to Hot Water Beach in the evening. We rent a spade for 5$ and head to the crowd at the beach. If you dig holes in the sand at this small area at the beach you reach after a few centimeter 60 degress Hot Water from the underground. You can creat create your own hot spring or jakuzzi. Really nice. And people everywhere.

A REAL Hot Water Beach in New Zealand by the The Flip Flop Travelling Family
CHECK OUT OUR 6 MONTHS OF TRAVEL VIDEO HERE
Visiting Hot Water beach on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand certainly is a unique experience. It's one of the most popular geothermal attractions in NZ because of its underground hot springs. You can take advantage of this natural hot water in between low and high tide.
Bring your own spade or hire one by the beach car park, walk on down and dig yourself your very own spa! It's as simple as that, it's a free activity for the entire family but do be careful as the deeper you dig, the hotter the water gets.

Kawhia Hot Water Beach, New Zealand [DJI Drone]
Kawhia is a peaceful beachside town steep in Maori history, and is the final resting place for the voyaging Tainui Waka (canoe). This heritage is illustrated not only in the community of Kawhia but in the world famous Kawhia Kai Festival – held in February each year the Kawhia Kai Festival is a celebration of Maori Cuisine, culture, and traditions and draws crowds from near and far. Lonely Plant listed the Kawhia Kai Festival in the Top 10 Indigenous events for overseas visitors and tourists to attend.
The off-the-beaten-track and somewhat untouched nature of Kawhia provides for the perfect destination to escape to. The Kawhia Harbour is great for a spot of fishing as well as off the wharf. On a hot summer’s day you will often find local children jumping off the wharf to cool off.
Kawhia Hot Water Beach Location:
Directions: Drive to the end of Ocean Beach Road (ask one of the friendly locals if you have trouble finding this road)
Park in the car park and walk over the sand dunes down onto ocean beach.
