FOOD by Steve Rodgers
AUG 12 -- 16, at the Butter Factory Theatre, Lincoln Causeway, Wodonga
On a stretch of Australian highway, two sisters -- Elma and Nancy -- run their family takeaway joint. Chiko Rolls and reminiscing are on the menu. While they quietly wage war with their past and dream up a brighter future, a young life-loving Turkish traveller arrives with a charm and sensuality that turns their world around.
Their dreams become reality when they transform their run down fast-food shop
into a restaurant showcasing Elma's gift for comfort cooking. Audience members become restaurant guests as the sisters serve up Elma's hearty minestrone soup, sourdough and local wines.

Personal promo - work in development 2018
It wasn’t until Jodee Mundy was five years old and lost at Kmart that she realised the rest of her family was Deaf. She didn’t see ‘disability’ – only the love and protection of those closest to her.
In Personal, she conveys her experience as the only hearing person in a Deaf family, through a captivating blend of performance, storytelling, multimedia and animation. Mundy delves into the contradictions of inhabiting two worlds: living in a Deaf family, where using sign language is natural; and living in a society that sees only the family’s disability with voyeuristic curiosity.
The role children of Deaf adults play in paving the way for their family – as interpreter, authority, conduit – is central to this very intimate story. Created with a talented team of collaborators and presented in two languages via a virtual interpreter, Personal is a smart, touching and deeply personal work exploring dis/ability and how we perceive one another.

“Personal, aside from a triumphant piece of performance and live theatre, does something special; it bridges divides, it removes, within this context, “us” and “them”. Not often does theatre, despite the best of intentions, achieve such heights.” Melbourne Critique
“Jodee Mundy’s Personal is a winning and inclusive tonic, consistently hilarious and informative”. Time Out
“Luckily Personal doesn’t discriminate. Inviting deaf and hearing audiences alike. This is a notable and important example of where access is not part of the performance, access is the performance”. Arts Hub
“Throughout Personal, Mundy shows us that her family is unique only because it traverses the line between two worlds; otherwise, it is like any other family – filled with laughter, frustration, anger, joy and love”. Theatre Press

Pyjama Girl video blog #4
A quick and slightly dodgy video shot in Italy as I ponder my forthcoming play 'The Pyjama Girl'.
In 1934 the battered and burned body of a woman was found in a country drain near the road to Albury, NSW. It took 10 years before the murder victim was identified (perhaps erroneously) and had a lasting impact on the community.
The Pyjama Girl will premiere at HotHouse Theatre on 25 October 2013. More details at:

LOVE by Patricia Cornelius
In October 2005, LOVE premiered at The Butter Factory Theatre in Wodonga, Victoria. It has gone on to play across Australia and overseas. We are thrilled that LOVE now takes its place amongst the growing number of plays featured on our Red Door imprint. In the lead up to publication, we sat down with playwright Patricia Cornelius to talk about this gritty, poetic and passionate piece of theatre - a classic of its genre.
For a copy of the script visit
SYNOPSIS:
Tanya, Annie and Lorenzo are on the bottom of the heap. They're young but already the youth has been wrung out of them. They've been abused, they're abusive, and they're difficult to like let alone to love. But it is love in all its distorted and mutated forms that holds them together. Annie and Tanya make a pact; their love will protect them from an unloving world and it will endure. Even the dreadful and charming Lorenzo will not threaten it. Only doubt in each other's love can put a wedge between them.
“This is theatre at its most riveting… In Cornelius’ capable hands, what could have been the last gasp of a genre in decay becomes a miraculous but painful resuscitation — pure Narcan.”
- Cameron Woodhead, The Age
Pyjama Girl project video blog #1
In which I talk about the process of researching and writing a new stage play based on the Pyjama Girl mystery.

Fractions by Marcel Dorney
Imagine eight hundred years of scientific, artistic and academic work destroyed and erased
from history. Imagine a government floundering amongst chaos and confusion due to a new set
of values enforced on society as a matter of law. Imagine the most intelligent person in the known world being earmarked for death by religious zealots.
Fractions is the story of Hypatia, a brilliant mathematician and philosopher who was the first woman to be considered the greatest mind of her age. 1600 years ago she was responsible for the Library of Alexandria - the largest collection of knowledge in her world.
The West is on the cusp of entering the dark
ages and Rome is under attack on all fronts. In Alexandria, religious fanatics pose a much larger and immediate threat - they're determined to destroy the Library and anyone who stands in their way. Political turmoil runs unchecked and danger is around every corner. In order to save her Library and her life's work, Hypatia is faced with a terrible choice.
Winner of the Queensland Premier's Drama award 2010/2011, and developed with the assistance of PlayWriting Australia, Fractions is one of the most anticipated premieres to hit the Australian stage in recent times.
This TV ad went to air on Prime7 in March 2012
