Houghton Hall is a key building in the history of Palladian architecture and was built for the de facto first British Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole in the 1730s.

Built in the 1720s for Great Britain’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, Houghton Hall is one of Norfolk’s most beautiful stately homes and remains one of England’s finest Palladian houses. A collaboration between the two defining British architects of the age – Colen Campbell and James Gibbs – and with lavish interiors by William Kent, Houghton was built with an eye to reflecting the wealth, taste, and power of its owner.

We take a visit to Houghton Hall & Gardens in Norfolk, using our Historic Houses Association membership. This year at Houghton Hall they have a Henry Moore art exhibition, as well some of the other permanent sculptures that they have in Houghton Hall grounds.
We also take a look around Houghton Hall walled garden.

William Kent: Designing Georgian Britain, on view at the Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture from September 20, 2013 to February 9, 2014, is the first major exhibition to examine the life and career of one of the most influential designers in eighteenth-century Britain. James Turrell and Rachel Whiteread at Houghton Hall
Subscribe: In this film we focus on three works made by James Turrell and Rachel Whiteread at Houghton Hall. Turrell is an artist primarily using artificial and natural light to explore optical sensations and symbolic associations. At Houghton Turrell has installed one of his luminescent 'Shallow Space Constructions' and one of his viewing chambers from the 'Skylight Series'. Whiteread adopts a process of casting to investigate time, function and memory in ordinary objects and structures. She has made a sculpture by casting a hut on the Houghton estate, part of a new series she calls 'shy sculptures' for their modest, utilitarian origins.

Masterpieces from the Hermitage at Houghton Hall
