Houghton Mill St Ives Huntingdon
Houghton Mill in St Ives, Huntingdon has been in existence for over 1,000 years.
The original Mill dates back to 974, when it was linked with the Benedictine Abbey at Ramsey.
The current Mill dates from the 1750's when the agricultural revolution was in full swing and the Industrial revolution was about to take off.
The mechanisation of milling which this mill represents saw the growth in mechanised flour making and subsequently the rise in cheaper bread.
The mill is now run and operated by the National Trust and is open to the public on Sundays and Bank holidays from March to October.

Houghton Mill and Lock 13 on the River Great Ouse
On my way home from visiting relatives in North Norfolk, I stopped at the National Trust property of Houghton Mill on the River Great Ouse, between St Ives and Huntingdon. The present Mill dates from the mid-18th century and just behind it, is Lock 13, which has a guillotine operated gate at one end. Join me, as I take a look around.

HOUGHTON, Cambridgeshire
This grand Victorian residence, located in one of Cambridgeshire's most sought after villages, was carefully converted into luxury apartments five years ago retaining period features and its stunning exterior faade. Located on the top floor this spacious apartment is approaching 1700 sq ft and includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen breakfast room and reception room. Outside there are six acres of managed grounds for communal use, a designated parking space and ample visitor parking.
Five years ago Ana and Peter were looking for a spacious apartment which was secure enough to be left whilst they indulged their passion for travel. The top floor of The Mansion at The Elms development in Thicket Road met our requirements perfectly. It is located in the charming village of Houghton, where there are two pubs, a post office and a convenience store. The village church and Houghton Mill, which is owned by the National Trust, are also nearby. We enjoy walking along Thicket Road admiring the varied architectural styles, says Ana.
The apartment is close to the market towns St. Ives and Huntingdon. London Kings Cross is 50 minutes by train which is perfect for both commuters and those wishing to spend a day in town. St. Ives is a picturesque town on the banks of the river Ouse. Ana continues, We often choose to cycle to St. Ives as it takes about fifteen minutes along a pleasant path running by the river.
Peter says that his favourite restaurant is the award winning Cock in nearby Hemingford Grey, awarded Pub of the Year in 2013 and just a short walk across the meadow. The Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon is equally famous for its food and fine wines.
As it is a Grade II listed property, we had to be careful of any improvements we made to the structure. A local carpenter crafted bespoke double glazed units fitted over the original sash windows. We also laid solid oak flooring on the landing, along the corridor and in two of the bedrooms. Ana
