Again, another really neat little seaside port. Docked right up against the town, practically. We stayed onboard the ship for a while in the morning, had breakfast and the kids went for a swim, and then with a little direction from others, we found our way to the train station, which is just right there. the neat thing was that we had to walk under one of the roadways and on the steps leading to and from the tunnel, there was a place on the side to put your bicycle tires, so you aren't bouncing your bikes up and down the steps.. pretty cool.
After purchasing tickets for the train, we were given a piece of paper that basically told us how to get to the New Market (tourist market area) of Rostock. The kids love the train. There were several stops on our way, but mostly we say the german country side. Buildings, houses, but honestly, mostly trees and landscape.. very pretty.
We arrived in the train station and as per instructions, made our way down to levels to catch the tram that runs all over Rostock.. Well there are several off them and like most major cities with these we had to check the names of the stations at the end of each line. We thought we had done the right thing, but we were told by someone that we had to go to the other side of the tracks.. Which we did.. but he was wrong. (once we got back on the right side, I made sure we checked all our pockets etc to make sure we hadn't lost something, or it had been taken.. we were all ok).
Once on the tram, we passed 3 stops until we came to the New Market (Nuier Market) stop. What a lovely area. it was there we had our first German Bratwurst (really good) and I think Elvis had a beer.
We walked around the area, pretty much shops and historic places. Eli had torn his swim suit that morning on the water slide so we found a TK Maxx (not TJ, but the same logo) and found him 2 new pairs of swim trunks.. yeah!! or it could have meant real trouble).
We wondered around the streets and had planned to take the ferry back to Warnemunde, but the cost was double what we had already paid for a round trip on the train, so we decided against it. On our way back the train station, we decided to ride the tram around the city. pretty cool as this was a good way to get out of the tourist area and get a feel for the town. That is the one thing about these cities that is great. transportation is wonderful.
We eventually made it back to Warnemunde (it's about a 30min, if that much, train ride) and headed back to the ship. We were in port until 10:00pm that night, so we decided to eat dinner on the ship, and then head back into the town. Big mistake. Warnemunde is a very quaint little seaside resort area and the main street near the port is a c**** street that is lined with shops and cafe's. We should have stayed in town and had dinner. We walked along the c**** and made our way to the beach area. Stuck our feet into the Baltic Sea (very cold) and headed back. We stopped for a beer and softdrinks and a little souvenir shopping before heading back to the ship.
because of it's location to the town, one of the neatest things was to look out our balcony at the time we were leaving the port. Tons of towns people were there to watch us leave. Crowded along the fence line and in the parking lots. just a really neat site.
This area long the baltic is also home to many Werfts or shipyards. As we sailed out of port, at 10:00pm, with the sky still very bright, we passed several shipyards with ships being built.
we called it a night and sailed on to our second day at sea.

Vintage Richard Glaesser large multi tiered 30 inch high Advent House Pyramid made in Erzgebirge Germany. It has three platforms that turn when the candles are installed and lit. There is a push pull knob to start the Swiss made Thorens or Reuge 28 note musical movement with an A stop arm (meaning the song will stop at the end of one revolution of the cylinder). The figures include Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, wise men, sheep, trees, camels, soldiers, a Nun band, an angel band, stars, Christmas reefs, Santa, toys,
I serviced the musical movement and re glued 3 figures back into place. I noticed some wear to the paint on the Santa's head. I also made a modification to the electrical wiring so the pyramid can be completely disassembled. There are two lights not working in the top tier.
I prefer a local pick up but I will deliver anywhere in the Los Angeles Area if the price is right - SUBMIT OFFERS.
If your really want this item shipped somewhere, it will be disassembled and parts wrapped individually to prevent damage. I have made three videos to help with this. The first is just showing how it works for a general description. There are two more videos available to view if you want to see if you can handle reassembly. The first is taking it apart and the second is putting it all back together. Send me a message and I send the links to the videos. Beware! It is is not uncommon to have small parts come loose. It will be the responsibility of the recipient to re-glue and peices that come loose during transit if shipped.

Germany: Meet Robin Wood and his many activists
Activists of 'Robin Wood' environmental organisation camped out in a tree house to protest their eviction for the development of a new motorway in Berlin on Monday.
Authorities released a statement declaring that they would evict the 'Stop A100!' activists who have been protesting at the site since October 2012. The wooden tree house is about four square meters and can accommodate two to three people. Construction work at the site is due to begin in May 2013.
Several lawsuits against the expansion of the highway have been rejected by the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig.

Who is Stordyr?
Stordyr is a totally cool guy from Rostock, Germany, now residing in the middle of Nowhere in Switzerland.
He is a long time gamer, having started with in the early 90s on a green screen PC with games like Prehistoric, Lemmings and similar stuff.
He has been a nerd before it became sexy, doing Pen & Paper Roleplaying Games since 1995 and has never stopped doing this (including all social implications of the time :P).
Now, that he is married to the geek woman of his life, father to a beautiful gamer child and working in corporate IT, he uses all his time to relax the brain, play, learn and enjoy himself with fun stuff.

1. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, also known by its anglicized name Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, is one of Germany’s 16 states. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern does not only possess the longest name of all 16 German states, it also has three of Germany’s 14 National Parks, the country’s two largest islands - Rügen and Usedom - and about 2000 kilometers of shoreline along the Baltic Sea. Thanks to these assets, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a favorite among tourists.
2. Human settlement in the area of modern Mecklenburg and Vorpommern began after the Ice Age, about 10,000 BC. In the area of present-day Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, up to 5,000 megalith tombs were erected as burial sites by people of the Neolithic Funnelbeaker (TRB) culture. About two thousand years ago, Germanic peoples were recorded in the area.
3. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was established in 1945 after World War II through the merger of the historic regions of Mecklenburg and the Prussian Western Pomerania by the Soviet military administration in Allied-occupied Germany.
4. With over 2,000 lakes, almost 2,000 km of coastline, and with its rivers and freshwater lagoons, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a water-lover’s paradise. The state’s Baltic coastline with its beautiful bays and beaches attracts massive numbers of tourists each summer. Three of Germany's fourteen national parks, as well as several hundred nature conservation areas, are in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
5. The city of Schwerin is the capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania but the Hanseatic towns along the coast, prime among them the city of Rostock, have historically provided economic prosperity to the region. Schwerin was first mentioned in 1018 as Wendenburg and was granted city rights in 1160 by Henry the Lion, thus it is the oldest city of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The city also has a largely intact old town, thanks to only minor damage in World War II.
6. A Hanseatic trading city, Rostock was granted city rights in the 13th century and since then has been a nexus point for trade, learning and shipbuilding on the Baltic. The city was hit by bombs in 1942, but a lot of its heritage was spared, like the Medieval riches of the Brick Gothic Marienkirche, Renaissance gabled merchants’ houses or a long stretch of the city’s defensive walls going back to the 13th century.
7. The University of Rostock, established in 1419, and the University of Greifswald, established in 1456, are among the oldest universities in Europe.
