Salzburg: Mozart's Birthplace and House [Romanza from Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467]
A Musical Tour of the City of Mozart
With music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Chapter IV
In 1747 Leopold Mozart married and with his wife rented third-floor rooms from Johann Lorenz Hagenauer at No. 9 Getreidegasse. It was here that their seven children were born, the two surviving Maria Anna in 1751 and Wolfgang Amadeus in 1756. The family lived in these very modest quarters until 1773, and during their tour to Paris and London from 1763 to 1766, we learn much of their journey from letters Leopold Mozart wrote to his landlord. The apartment is now a museum preserving family portraits and instruments belonging to Mozart. The former include the unfinished portrait of Mozart painted by his brother-in-law Joseph Lange in 1789, with paintings of Mozart as a child. The instruments include Mozart's Anton Walter fortepiano, bought and used in Vienna, his clavichord, and a violin from his childhood, with a later concert instrument. In 1773 the family moved to the present No. 8 Makartplatz, the so-called Tanzmeisterhaus (Dancing Master House). The building was largely destroyed in an air-raid in 1944, but has been restored, and now houses an exhibition of Mozart memorabilia. The house was originally owned by dancing-masters and used for balls and receptions. Mozart lived here with his parents until he finally left Salzburg in 1781. Leopold Mozart died there in 1787. The exhibition includes the oil painting of the family by Johann Nepomuk della Croce, with a portrait of Mozart's mother, who had died in Paris in 1778. The painting dates from 1780 or early 1781.
Music Mozart: Romanza from Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467
Mozart entered the Piano Concerto in C major, K.467, into his catalogue of compositions with the date 9th March 1785. It was performed by the composer in the fifth of the Lenten subscribtion concerts he had organized at the Mehlgrube on 11th March, the day after a concert at the Burgtheater for which he had used his new fortepiano with an added pedal-board. His father reported that this instrument was always being taken out of the house, either to the Mehlgrube or to an aristocratic salon for concerts which formed a major element in Mozart's life in Vienna. The slow movement, music of great beauty, has become very familiar since its use in the film Elvira Madigan.
Mozart's Birthplace! Walk Around Salzburg with me :)
Let's take a walk around Salzburg, Austria, the city in which Mozart was born.
Here, I'll show you the actual house in which Mozart was born, another place where he lived, and some other cool things in Salzburg.
My Favorite part of the city actually has nothing to do with Mozart, it has to do with the cool passageways that weave through the old part of the city, which I will of course show you.
This is a really cool and unique city, so come on this mini-walking tour with me and see what it's like!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is considered to be one of the greatest composers of all time. He was born in 1756 in a house in the old historical center of Salzburg. The family lived in this house for some 26 years, which is now a museum. Sue and I had a chance to visit the museum during one of our days in Salzburg.

My dad always wanted to go to Vienna, and since I knew I would be going to Switzerland I suggested we meet up and do a father daughter adventure trip through Austria together:)
I don't know if you can tell, but I look a lot like my dad and we both love architecture so we couldn't miss Salzburg. Salzburg is crazy idyllic, most of the houses are blush colours so in a sense it comes of as a pretty feminine city, which I don't mind at all:)
We saw a fortress, shoppingstreets, cafe's and Mozart's birthplace. We saw so much in one day that I had to split the video up in 2 parts, so the rest of Salzburg will be up next week:)

Mozart was a classical composer who began when he was five. He was indeed a musical genius, and is a true legend. Although I play mostly Chopin pieces, Mozart is my favorite composer. This short video was so inspiring that I started bushing up on these two lovely pieces. Perhaps I'll post them on youtube someday! lol lol I love this video, and to know what Mozart's piano looked and sounded like. Simply amazing...

Mozart Square in the heart of the old town of Salzburg, Austria
What is known today as the Mozartplatz Square in the heart of the old town of Salzburg just next to the Neue Residenz, was opened Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau ordered to destruct a number of houses on this site in the early 17th century.
wikipedia, GFDLThe central piece on interest is the Mozart memorial by Ludwig Schwanthaler. It was opened in 1842, a difficult time for Salzburg then secularised only two decades earlier and still suffering from the devastations of the Napoleonic wars. The two sons of Mozart were present at the opening of the memorial, Mozart′s widow Constanze von Nissen had died half a year earlier in May 1842 in a house on the Mozartplatz.
There were some arguments on which square to name after Mozart - the Hannibalplatz in front of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church, today Markartplatz), or the current Mozartplatz, then known as Michaelsplatz.

We had a short weekend we spent in Salzburg.
the bus from Prague was 6 hours and we had a buy 1 get 1 free ticket via LEO express bus company. Check their website, they often have deals like that.
Salzburg is awesome and not such a large city that you can get lost.
The main sites are old town, the fortress and Mozart's birth house and later residence.
Make sure to drop by Cafe Sacher for the best sacher cake in the world (as we were told). I agree after trying it.
Oktoberfest is pretty awesome here, drinking for the adults and amusement rides and arcades for the kids.
It's not as expensive as Vienna but can still be rather pricey. We stayed in an airbnb about 20 minutes walk from old town.
Public transportation is easy and I recommend to buy the 24 hour tickets as opposed to single use.
A day trip from here would be Hallstatt which is covered in my other video on that town.
Mozart's House, Vienna, Austria - Unravel Travel TV
The great thing about Vienna is that in the city centre you can fall upon side streets with cobbled streets, This one has Mozart's house behind me. Mozart may have been born in Salzburg but he spent four happy years in Vienna, living in Domgasse 5. Tour guides in Vienna have a field day, as thousands of tourists converge on the Mozarthaus to get an insight into his life and listen to his melodies. He is still the nation's superstar over 200 years after his death and wherever you walk in Vienna, Mozart's face is everywhere, advertising exhibitions, and concert posters. Souvenir shops are stuffed with memorabilia, from Mozart perfume to Mozart sausage.

Salzburg in Spring | Mozarts House & Fortress Hohensalzburg | KellyHasAdventures
For our second day (and first full day) in Salzburg we hit the town running. After a quick coffee break to pick up the local Starbucks Salzburg design mug, because we have a mug problem, we headed off to activate our Salzburg card. Now, we HIGHLY recommend the Salzburg card - it gets you into nearly every single museum, which there are a lot of, plus up to the fortress, on the funicular, on the bus and loads more. With our Salzburg card in hand, we visited Mozarts house, stopped off for a little lunch, and visited the massive fortress on the hill. Behind the fortress, there are incredible sweeping views of Untersberg - you know, that stunning mountain you can see from the Von Trapp family home in The Sound of Music. Also from the top of the fortress, we could point out a few of The Sound of Music filming locations! After the fortress we stepped back in time at St. Peter's monastery, cemetery, and catacombs (founded in the 7th century), and climbed up into the cliff side to see the catacombs. Then we mooched around town a bit more, relaxed at the apartment, and headed out for dinner at The Joyful Monkey aka Zum fidelen Affen.

Mozart Birth House Salzburg Austria
The rediscovered jewels of Imperial Europe are the focus of this popular vacation, which includes overnights in Munich, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, and Salzburg. In Prague, see the tolling of the Astronomical Clock, when a sinister medieval figure of death emerges to pull the bell cord. Operating for over six centuries, this is a highlight of any trip to Prague. Also enjoy the sites, sounds, and tastes of Vienna—maybe sit in a café with a piece of scrumptious Sachertorte while listening to a legendary waltz, or explore the inside of St. Stephen's Cathedral with its Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Even more fabulous architecture awaits you in Budapest, known as the Paris of the East. Here, you'll see the Matthias Coronation Church, founded in 1015, which has witnessed several coronations and royal weddings.
Sample the sauerkraut in Munich, savor Apfelstrudel in Salzburg, and enjoy the plum dumplings and Pilsner in Prague. You'll also enjoy the enchanting natural scenery you'll witness, including the Alps and Danube River Valley—amazing features of a marvelous vacation.
