Old Town (Medieval) area of Esslingen am Neckar, Germany
Esslingen am Neckar in Germany has been pretty much thriving since around since the year 800. Because it was spared from much of the bombings of WWII, the old town area remained pretty much intact. Walking through here is really a step back in time, with parts of the old city wall and tower still standing. The whole area is full of beautiful half-timbered houses that Germany is known for. The river Neckar runs through the city, with many homes built right over it. Not to be missed if you ever visit Germany - hope you enjoy the video snippets we filmed and are enticed to consider coming here one day. Places to see in ( Stuttgart - Germany ) Schillerplatz
Places to see in ( Stuttgart - Germany ) Schillerplatz
Schillerplatz is a square in the old city centre of Stuttgart, Germany named in honour of the German poet, philosopher, historian, and dramatist Friedrich Schiller. Schillerplatz stands to the south west of Stuttgart's main square, Schlossplatz. Starting in the south west corner, Schillerplatz is surrounded by the Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church), the Fruchtkasten building, the Prinzenbau (which now houses the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Justice, the Alte Kanzlei (Old Chancellery) and Altes Schloss (the Old Castle).
A street market takes place twice a week on Schillerplatz. The square is also used for major events taking place on Marktplatz (Stuttgart's Market Square) such as the annual Christmas Market. Hidden underneath Schillerplatz's cobblestones is an underground car park. The late Gothic Fruchtkasten building in the corner of Schillerplatz is now used by the State Museum of Württemberg to house a collection of musical instruments.
At the centre of the cobblestone square is a memorial to Friedrich Schiller which was erected in 1839 by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Thorvaldsen's statue was the first memorial to Schiller to be erected in Germany. The first known brick building in Stuttgart - the Stuthaus or mare house - stood next to the adjacent Stiftskirche (collegiate church). It is therefore supposed that the square was originally used as a horse breeding area around 1000 years ago (in keeping with Stuttgart's history). After the 12th century the square was probably covered in simple houses before other stone houses such as the Fruchtkasten were built. In the mid-14th century the Dürnitzbau wing of the Old Castle (next to Schillerplatz) was erected. The Old Chancellery was built in 1542 shortly before completion of the Arkadenflügel wing of the Old Castle. The area between the Old Castle and the Chancellery became a moat.
In 1594 Duke Friedrich I asked his master builder Heinrich Schickhardt to turn today's Schillerplatz into a Renaissance square. Residents' houses were bought and demolished. The new square was laid with cobblestones and called 'Castle and Chancellery Square'. The dimensions of the square have not changed since.
In 1607 work began on the Gesandtenhaus (a type of ambassador's house) which is now known as the Prinzenbau and was finally completed in 1677. In 1711 the Prinzenbau was extended behind the Old Chancellery with an arch in the northernmost corner of Schillerplatz. On the opposite, southern side of the square between the Old Castle and Stiftskirche the first Stuttgart Café opened in 1712. It was replaced in 1798 by the König von England inn (King of England Inn). This was shortly after the moat surrounding the Old Castle had finally been filled in leaving the square the way it stands today.

Stuttgart, capital of southwest Germany’s Baden-Württemberg state, is known as a manufacturing hub. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have headquarters and museums here. The city is filled with greenspaces, which wrap around its center. Popular parks include the Schlossgarten, Rosensteinpark and Killesbergpark. Wilhelma, one of the largest zoos and botanical gardens in Europe, is just northeast of Rosenstein Castle.
Ask many Germans their opinion of Stuttgarters and they'll have plenty of things to say: they are road hogs, speeding along the autobahn; they are sharp-dressed executives with a Swabian drawl; they are tight-fisted homebodies who slave away to schaffe, schaffe, Häusle baue (work, work, build a house).
So much for the stereotypes: the real Stuttgart is less superficial than legend would have it. True, some good-living locals like their cars fast and their restaurants fancy, but most are just as happy getting their boots dirty in the surrounding vine-clad hills and hanging out with friends in the rustic confines of a Weinstube (wine tavern) or a chestnut tree-shaded Biergarten. In this, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, city slickers and down-to-earth country kids walk hand in hand, with no need to compromise.
Stuttgart, capital of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, is famous as a centre of the automotive industry, a business location and a city of trade fairs, congresses and culture. In addition, it's no less popular as a destination for day excursions, recreation and travel.

The city is filled with greenspaces, which wrap around its center. Popular parks include the Schlossgarten, Rosensteinpark and Killesbergpark. Wilhelma, one of the largest zoos and botanical gardens in Europe, is just northeast of Rosenstein Castle.
Stuttgart is the capital and largest city of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is located on the Neckar river in a fertile valley locally known as the Stuttgart Cauldron an hour from the Swabian Jura and the Black Forest. Stuttgart is also a transport junction, and possesses the sixth-largest airport in Germany. Such companies as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Daimler AG, Dinkelacker, and others are headquartered there. Stuttgart is unusual in the scheme of German cities. It is spread across a variety of hills (some of them covered in vineyards), valleys (especially around the Neckar river and the Stuttgart basin) and parks. This is often a source of surprise to visitors who associate the city with its reputation as the cradle of the automobile. The city's tourism slogan is Stuttgart offers more.
The Stuttgart area is known for its high-tech industry. Some of its most prominent companies include Daimler AG, Porsche, Bosch, Celesio, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Sika – all of whom have their world or European headquarters here. Stuttgart is home to Germany's ninth biggest exhibition center, Stuttgart Trade Fair which lies on the city outskirts next to Stuttgart Airport. Hundreds of SMEs are still based in Stuttgart (often termed Mittelstand), many still in family ownership with strong ties to the automotive, electronics, engineering and high-tech industry.
Stuttgart has a light rail system known as the Stuttgart Stadtbahn. In the city center and densely built-up areas, the Stadtbahn runs underground. Stuttgart is a hub in the InterCityExpress and InterCity networks of Deutsche Bahn AG (DBAG), with through services to most other major German cities. Stuttgart is served by Stuttgart Airport (German: Flughafen Stuttgart, IATA airport code STR), an international airport approximately 13 km (8 mi) south of the city centre on land belonging mainly to neighboring towns. Stuttgart has an inland port in Hedelfingen on the Neckar. Stuttgart is served by Autobahn A8, that runs east-west from Karlsruhe to Munich, and Autobahn A81 that runs north-south from Würzburg to Singen. The Autobahn A831 is a short spur entering the southern side of Stuttgart.

Impressions of the 150th birthday celebration for Carl Laemmle (1867-1939),Stuttgart (Germany)
On January 17th, 2017, the inventor Hollywoods, Carl Laemmle (1867-1939), celebrated his 150th birthday.
The House of History of Baden-Wuerttemberg in my hometown Stuttgart, is currently showing a special exhibition on the German-American filmproducer under the motto Carl Laemmle presents, which will continue until 30th July 2017.
And there, in the House of History Baden-Wuerttemberg, was a birthday party, which celebrated the 150th birthday of Carl Laemmle, the founder of Universal Studios in Los Angeles. With a five-storied birthday cake, weight 150 lb and performed with movie posters by Carl Laemmle's films, was linked to the tradition of the birthday parties of the Hollywood founder from Laupheim near Ulm. The prime minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, cut the cake and every visitor (myself as well) was then able to taste the birthday cake filled with vanilla pudding, almonds and Californian fruit and marzipan. And it tasted really great. Of course, I also looked at the great exhibition about Carl Laemmle, where in addition to original film repertoires a real Oscar is on display.
My movie gives you a small impression about the beautiful birthday celebration for Carl Laemmle (1867-1939) at House Of History Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Please excuse some shaky shots.Anyway enjoy it!
Best
Helmut
Alvin Kyer @ Studio Lively Stuttgart
Alvin Kyer
(Draft/NoExcuse/NONSTOP/Roushlabel/Formatik/Saywhat?/Dubnation)
German-born artist Alvin Kyer is about as fine of an ambassador for today's trending tech house world as you will find anywhere. At the mere age of 15, he became the youngest resident DJ in Germany after being discovered by Stuttgart club M1’s owner Bubi Schuster. He continued his record-breaking form by becoming the youngest DJ to play on a lineup at das dreizehnte Land at just 18.
Alvin’s musical incentives are drawn from some of the purest sources within dance music history. Early influence absorbed from the dancefloors of DC10 and Space Ibiza, listening to artists like Armand van Helden, Loco Dice and Butch has gone on to help mould his musical palette with a level of defined maturity and sureness.
His prominence within the German scene, combined with a residency at 102 in Neuss and frequenting Kowalski in Stuttgart have led Alvin to feel at home amongst some of his biggest idols and industry giants. He has been privileged to support the likes of Richie Hawtin, Magda, Jon Gaiser, Ricardo Villalobos, David Morales, Karotte, Loco Dice, Eric Prydz, DJ Rush, Felix Krocher, Chris Liebling, Benny Benassi and many more throughout his career.
Imaginably, a performer of Alvin’s stature has no doubt tried his hand in the studio, right? His release resume already consists of some of the biggest names in tech house including NoExcuse, NONSTOP, Roushlabel, Formatik and many others, with a plentiful supply of finished records on track for release in the near future. Alvin’s production efforts have seen his music supported by the likes of Adam Beyer, Karotte, Paco Osuna, Arado, Joseph Capriati and many others.
With several gigs confirmed gigs dotted around Europe and an impressive amount of forthcoming releases on the horizon, Alvin is keeping his foot well and truly on the gas as he continues to rise to precedence on a global scale.
