Liepāja In Your Pocket - Peter the Great House (Pētera I namiņš)
In Your Pocket editor Martins Zaprauskis visits Peter the Great House (Pētera I namiņš) in Liepāja. Not only is this charming house one of Liepāja's oldest buildings, it also has the distinction of having hosted the Russian tsar on his trip to Western Europe in 1697. Coincidentally, the historic house across the street (Kungu 26/Bāriņu 33) that now houses a weavers' workshop was built only two years later and served as accommodation for King Charles XII of Sweden, the tsar's rival during the Great Northern War (1699 - 1721).
Liepāja In Your Pocket - Liepāja, Latvia Highlights
In Your Pocket editor Martins Zaprauskis visits Liepaja, Latvia's third largest city. It is located in the far southwest corner of Latvia on the Baltic coast only 100km from Klaipeda in Lithuania. Straddling a narrow strip of land between the sea and a lake, it began as a humble fishing village, eventually becoming a major trading port under the leadership of Jacob (or James) Kettler (1610 - 1681), Duke of Courland and godson of England's King James I. The burgeoning city suffered heavily during the Great Northern War when the population was decimated by an outbreak of the plague in 1710. The city only regained its importance as a port and mercantile centre in the 19th century as a part of the Russian empire. Its significance was further buoyed by the creation of the Naval Port from 1890 -- 1904 when it was home to the first Baltic fleet of Russian submarines.
Boutique hotels have become the standard, not the exception, in a city where nearly every guesthouse, hotel and hostel provides completely renovated rooms with interesting interior design. Whether it's white sandy beaches and the sea you're after, culture and centuries-old architecture, or extreme sports and even extremer nightlife, Latvia's hippest city has it all.

My 4-Day Latvia Trip in 400 Seconds | Trip to Riga, Latvia | Wea Mazeika
I had a 4-day trip to Latvia!
It was my first time traveling to Latvia and I tried summing up my experience in 400 seconds.
This trip has been very memorable for me because there were a lot of firsts! Visited Rundale Palace (which I refer to as a castle in the video), attended Ed Sheeran's concert for the first time, explored Riga (the capital of Latvia) for 4 days, went to museums and old churches, had my belly button piercing done, went to Liepaja and saw the Baltic sea!
Places that are shown in the video:
Rundale Palace
Old Town Riga
St. Peter's Church
Latvian War Museum
Egle Restaurant
Liepaja
I didn't include Ed Sheeran's concert in the video since I made a separate one for it.
Don't forget to subscribe to my channel and click the notification bell so you won't miss any of my upcoming videos :)

Liepaja from 1900 to 2013
This movie is about history of my home town Liepaja. My father during 25 years collects old postcard of Liepaja, takes photos of Liepaja. I with my student took photos of these wonderful places in february 2013. Hope you'll enjoy it!
Latvia: Convicted Holocaust denier leads WW2 concentration camp tour
British historian David Irving, convicted in Austria for denying the existence of gas chambers at Auschwitz, led a tour group around the Rumbula Memorial in Riga, Latvia on Thursday. The visit to the site of the Rumbula massacre was the first stop on Irving's nine day 'Real History Tour' around various World War Two sites in Latvia and Poland.
The Rumbula Memorial remembers the Nazi massacre of over 25,000 Jews in the Rumbula Forest in 1941 over two non-consecutive days. Irving led the group around the architect Sergejs Rizs' stone structure which is shaped in the form of the Star of David with a menorah above it.

Come join Liepāja Tours and TheCeļotājs visit to the House of Peter the 1st Pēteris I namiņš ANNO 1697, the oldest house in Liepāja located at Kungu iela 24.
Not only is this charming house is one of Liepāja's oldest buildings, it also has the distinction of having hosted the Russian tsar on his trip to Western Europe in 1697. Coincidentally, the historic house is across the street from Kungu 26 / Bāriņu 33 that now houses a weavers' workshop was built only two years later and served as accommodation for King Charles XII of Sweden, the tsar's rival during the Great Northern War 1699 -- 1721.
This wooden house has small paned windows and is opposite the junction at Kungu iela 24. In the 17th century it was a hotel run by Madam Hoyer, where the Russian Tsar Peter stayed in 1697. Probably the Tsar chose that hotel because it was the only hotel in Liepāja at that time with an inside toilet. The Tsar arrived in Liepāja incognito. Together with some other noble Russian young people he was traveling around Europe and stopped off in Liepāja as it was on his route. However this house is noted not only for its noble visitor but also as one of the oldest dwelling houses in Liepāja, a wooden log building on a low stone foundation with a steep tile roof.

Houses with similar appearance and lonely atmosphere. The closer you get to the beach, the more chilling the air is in Riepaya's first impression. This shabby beach, where strict admission to the Soviet Union was banned, is the only concrete rubble falling to the Baltic Sea. What I see behind me is an old naval defense facility. It was built by Russian emperor Aleksandr III. Now it is just a mass of concrete that has collapsed without strength, but more than 100 years ago, this building was an important naval fortress of the Russian Empire, which had been in desperation. This is where the Baltic Fleet departed for the Russo-Japanese War. But its reputation can not stop the flowing waves and the waves. After the withdrawal of the Soviet army, the military areas of Liefaya were left with abandoned buildings. However, it seems that a well-managed red-colored building stands in the yard with a military car that does not seem so old and the barbed wire has not lost its use. This is the Karosta military prison, which adds to the raining rains. The guide seems a little tame. In a row Going forward The tour began so suddenly. If you pay 10,000 won, you can be a prisoner for an hour. In place. In 1905, when the revolution occurred in Russia, the crew who served in the army in that area joined the revolution. But the revolution was quickly suppressed and needed a place to hide those who were involved in the rebellion. Since there was no prison in this naval base at the time, the military commander decided to change this military hospital to a military prison. Go on. You act only according to my instructions. This is where you have not escaped for one hundred years. The first place I was taken was a bigger and brighter room than I thought. Here it is It is late but it is the turn to introduce myself. Who are those who work with you? What we want to know is who is in contact with you. KBS. KBS. Who is it to contact you? You are the President of KBS. You shot our military bases and warships. You can not deny it. When I'm done, the work in prison begins. Tactical training is a must. Put the equipment on your shoulder. Run, run! The prisoners had to turn 50 rounds of the prison building. Go in here. Go in. Hands on the wall...

BRIEF HISTORY OF TOWER --
The tower, originally of wood, was rebuilt a number of times. It once collapsed in a storm, totally destroying a nearby house and killing 8 people. It then it burned down for the first time in 1721, and it is said that the Emperor Peter the Great himself helped fight the fire, and then immediately issued the orders for its reconstruction. He ordered the chief architect to sit on top of the weather vane at the completion of the work, drink a glass of wine, and throw the glass to the ground. The shattered pieces were to be counted, and the number of pieces would show how many centuries the spire would survive. The glass landed on a passing hay cart and survived, with only the stem breaking -- two pieces. Sure enough, the spire was destroyed by fire again -- two hundred years later, on Saint Peter's Day, 1941. For many years it was thought that the church was accidentally hit in the crossfire of battle; however it has since been discovered that it was deliberately set on fire by retreating Soviet troops as a propaganda move to blame the Germans for its destruction. There is now an elevator to an observation platform from which you get by far the best view of Riga City.
