Tsar Liberator Alexander II Museum Pleven

The house of Ivan Vatsov - a tradesman from Pleven, was built on the eve of the Russo-Turkish war 1877-1878. With its rich furniture it is a typical house of the Bulgarian national revival. On 11th December 1877 the Russian emperor Alexander II was given a warm welcome in that house and he was given a letter of grateful acknowledgement on behalf of the citizens of Pleven. Here in the presence of Grand duke Nickolay Nickolaevich, the Romanian Prince Karol I, the Russian minister of war Milljutin and other eminent Russian generals, the taken captive Turkish marshal Osman Pasha was met by the Russian emperor.

The first military governer of Pleven - general M.D.Skobelev lived and worked in that house from 12th to 22nd December 1877. On the initiative of the committee Tsar Liberator Alexander II it was bought to be turned into a museum. A very beautiful park was formed round the house. The fence was made from parts of weapons, rifles, swords and bayonets given by the Russian War ministry.

The museum-house Tsar Liberator Alexander II was inaugurated on 3rd September 1907 in the presence of Royal Prince Ferdinand I, Grand duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, Grand duchess Maria Pavlovna, and general P.Parensov - participant in the war, Russian generals, Bulgarian ministers, deputies, and members of the committee Tsar Liberator Alexander II, volunteers, guests and citizens of Pleven.

The Southern Coast of Crimea is notable not only for amazing landscapes, unique nature and the range of priceless historical and architectural monuments, but also for its famous all over the world wines. Crimean wine-making is centered in Massandra winery that is one of the oldest and largest wine-making enterprises in CIS. Today, everyone has an opportunity to visit ancient galleries of wine cellars, to see the creation process of the famous Massandra wines and to appreciate their taste during wine-tasting.
The Massandra wines’ history started in the middle of the 19th century, when the small settlement Massandra, situated near Yalta, passed to the Count’s Mikhail Vorontsov’s ownership. He bought the best vine sorts in Europe and founded a wine-making industry here. The best experts were invited from France in order to sustain it. However, Massandra winery’s wine production reached industrial scale only fifty years later, when the manor became Imperator house’s property.
In 1892, the Imperator Alexander the Third invited the main wine-maker of Crimean and Caucasian feudal lands Count Lev Golitsyn, who had already been known as the founder of wine-making enterprises in the New World, to Massandra. It was he who ordered to build the first underground winery with tunnels in Russia in order to produce and ripen table and dessert wines. Its construction lasted four years.
Constructed from the light-grey Crimean stone, the Massandra winery’s building is reminiscent of a medieval castle with tower and forged iron gates. The wine cellars are cut underneath it: the fan of seven 150 meter-long tunnels goes deep into the rock and forms galleries with stone niches for many-year-old vintage wines. This natural storehouse has unique microclimate with stable temperature of +12 degrees Celsius all the year round. This temperature is considered to be ideal for high quality dessert and fortified wines’ storage. In addition, winery’s building has dessert wine products’ aging shop, wine-making museum and tasting rooms.
Today, the Massandra winery has one of the largest wine collections in the world that numbers over a million vintage wine bottles, including 10 to 200 and more year-old wines. There are several truly unique items: for instance, Sherry de la Frontera, produced in 1775 and considered to be the oldest wine in the world. Massandra winery has its own museum stock that includes up to three bottles of each wine from winery’s collection.
It is possible to visit the plant only as part of guided tour. Its program suggests visiting Tsar’s cellar with museum gallery of vintage wines, middle cellar, dessert wine products’ aging shop and wine-making museum, and tasting vintage wines.
Getting here. There are two options. The first one is to go from Yalta bus terminal to Massandra settlement, and then to follow the guide signs to the winery. The second one is more convenient: to take the route bus №40 from Yalta flea market directly to the winery.

Ruse (also transliterated as Rousse or Russe; Bulgarian: Русе) is the fifth-largest city in Bulgaria with a population of 166 991 (by current address). Ruse is situated in the northeastern part of the country, on the right bank of the Danube, opposite the Romanian city of Giurgiu, 300 km from the capital Sofia and 200 km from the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It is the most significant Bulgarian river port, serving an important part of the international trade of the country.

Ruse is known for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture, which attracts many tourists. The Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge, the only one in the shared Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube, crosses the river here.

Ruse is located on the right bank of the Danube, which is the high bank, having two underwater terraces and three river terraces at 15--22 m (49.21--72.18 ft), 30--66 m (98.43--216.54 ft), and 54--65 m (177.17--213.25 ft). The average altitude is 45.5 m (149.28 ft) AMSL. The urban area is an approximately 11-km ellipse running along the river. The city extends from the land-connected Matey (Матей) island and the mouth of Rusenski Lom on the west to Srabcheto (Сръбчето) hill on the east. During the 20th century, the west end of the city was significantly modified by moving the mouth of Rusenski Lom to the west, as well as by moving the bank itself with its fairway considerably to the north. Sarabair (саръбаир) hill is to the south of the city and is 159 m (521.65 ft) high. The Rousse TV Tower is built there on the remains of Leventtabia, a former Turkish fortification.

In 1978, the All Saints Church was destroyed and the Pantheon of National Revival Heroes was built thereupon.

The Jewish community in Ruse built and consecrated a synagogue in 1797. It was destroyed in the 1810 fire, but two other synagogues were later built in 1826 and 1852.

This is a richly decorated fence of former military base in Veliko Turnovo .During the communist era the crowns on the lions heads were converted to hats with red stars!Today someone returned the crowns on some of the lions heads.They were there for 45 years waiting, covered with a layer of concrete concealing their original shape!The other sculpture is soldier's head in profile ,wearing german pattern helmet(with horns) and holding a bayonet!

СПРАВКА: REFERENCE:
София (болг. София [ˈsɔfija], от греч. σοφία — мастерство, мудрость) — столица и крупнейший город Болгарии. Административный центр городской области София и его единственной общины Столична.
Население — 1,43 млн человек (2015 год). Свыше 95 % всех жителей составляют этнические болгары[3]. Расположена на западе Болгарии, на южной окраине Софийской котловины, у подножия горного массива Витоша. Климат умеренный континентальный.
В древности на месте Софии существовало поселение фракийского племени сердов, в I веке н. э. получившее римское название Сердика. С IX века под именем Средец — в составе Болгарии. Позднее город назывался Триадица, а в конце XIV века получил название София (по церкви святой Софии). В XIV веке захвачен турками; в XVI—XVIII веках являлся вторым после Константинополя торговым центром Балканского полуострова. С 1879 года — столица независимой Болгарии.
В V—VI веках во время Великого переселения народов город переживает нашествия гуннов, готов и других варварских племён. В середине VI века, во время правления императора Юстиниана I Великого (527—565 годы), Сердика возрождается как важный административный центр Византийской империи под именем Триадица. Только в религиозном отношении город был подчинён архиепископству, центром в деревне Prima Justiiniana (возможно где-то рядом с современным городом Охрид на территории современной Республики Македония), где родился сам император Юстиниан.
С 809 года город входит в состав болгарского государства под названием Средец. После восстановления болгарского государства в 1185 году епископ Средеца возводится в сан митрополита. С конца XIV века по 1870-е годы город, как и вся страна, находится под османским владычеством. Ещё в XII—XIII вв. город в общении называли Софией, по имени главного храма — кафедральной св. Софии. Основанное в первой половине IV в., современное здание восходит к концу того же века, достраивалось несколько раз. Однако в официальных документах под этим названием появляется лишь в конце XIV века.
Во время османского владычества город становится важным центром империи. Здесь находилась резиденция бейлербея Румелии, правящего европейской территорией Османской империи и, таким образом, город стал важнейшим, после Константинополя, османским городом в Европе. Однако в это время соборная Св. София было переоборудована под мечеть, а епископским центром стал храм св. Марины.
После освобождения от турецкого ига и возрождения болгарского государства София становится столицей.
