Time Lapse - Sunday Drive from Vancouver, BC to Bellingham, Washington
June 5, 2016 - A lovely Sunday drive from the suburbs of Vancouver, BC to the nearby American city of Bellingham, WA. Many Canadians cross the border thanks to cheaper gas, food, and other shopping. While I partook in all these things while across the border, I also just wanted to get out for a relaxing drive (in a light-speed time lapse) on such a beautiful day.
A key point along the drive is the Peace Arch, where both Highway 99 and Interstate 5 meet their ends, and both the province of British Columbia and sate of Washington have placed a provincial and state park, respectively.
It wasn't a particularly busy morning, but I'm still loving that Nexus pass!
The 49th Parallel North acts as the entire land boundary between western Canada and the United States, from BC/Washington in the west to Manitoba/Minnesota in the east. It also bisects Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. A few miles down the road, in Ferndale, we are at the exact same latitude as the Eiffel Tower.
And last but not least for your viewing pleasure, Q*bert (sort of)!
Part Two: 2009 Old Settlers Picnic and Pioneer Park by ExplorationsNorthwest.com
Come along as Explorations Northwest highlights the importance of history and our cultural traditions, during the 2009 Whatcom County Old Settlers Picnic at Pioneer Park in Ferndale, WA.
During this episode, Explorations Northwest visits the annual Old Settlers Picnic and Ferndale's Pioneer Park, which showcases the largest collection of hand-hewn cedar log buildings in the world.
While covering Ferndale's annual celebration, parades, and carnival, we highlight the determined efforts of dedicated volunteers, who are working tirelessly to preserve local history and longstanding cultural traditions in the face of rapid social change.
We also profile the activities of the Ferndale Heritage Society and highlight the critically important social functions served by the rituals and customs embodied in the celebrations and parades of small town America.

One Lucky Hour in Sumas and Three Unlucky Hours in Ferndale
NOTE: There are some shoddy editing errors [repeating footage, pauses in narration, shrinking video sizes, etc.]
Last week, I Railfanned both the Sumas and Bellingham Subdivisions in Whatcom County, Wa. In Sumas, we find BNSF switching out IKO Pacific and the Teal Jones Lumber Mill. The following Saturday morning, we arrive in Ferndale and Blaine only to find either parked trains or ones that didn't wait for us. Thanks for checking us out today, God Bless.
