Saint Marks Summit Hike, Via Howe Sound Crest Trail, West Vancouver, BC, Canada
St Mark`s Summit is part of the amazing Howe Sound Crest Trail in Cypress Provincial Park and is one of the many beautiful peaks to be climbed if desired on the 29k trail. Cypress Mountain Resort is the location of the trailhead for the hike to St Mark's Summit. As it is one of among several hikes along the Howe Sound Crest Trail, the trailhead signs and markers don't indicate St Mark's Summit. Instead you have to follow the well laid out and frequent signs that direct you to the Howe Sound Crest Trail.
Best Hiking Trails in Vancouver: Howe Sound Crest Trail
One of the most scenic hiking trails in the world, Howe Sound Crest Trail overlooks many famous landmarks in West Vancouver, including Horseshoe Bay, Bowen Island, the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, The Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler, and of course, Howe Sound itself. We spent an afternoon climbing from Bowen Lookout to St. Marks Summit Lookout and back, just in time for the unforgettable Pacific Ocean sunset.

Howe Sound Crest Trail - a magnificent day hike from Cypress Bowl to Porteau Cove
The Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT) is an epic backcountry trail near Vancouver that stretches 30km from Cypress Bowl ski area to Porteau Cove on the Sea to Sky Highway.
It can be done as a challenging day hike that will take you through St. Marks Summit, Unnecessary Mountain, the Lions, Magnesia Meadows, Brunswick Lake and Deeks Lake.
Howe Sound Crest Trail | June 2016
In June 2016, we hiked the Howe Sound Crest Trail. This is a challenging 29km hike through the North Shore mountains near Vancouver, BC. Although the trail was still 3/4 snow covered we made it through. Mostly thanks to our trail angels Paul and Matt who we found mid-trail.
This is an adventure I, and my sprained ankle, will never forget.
Happy Trails!

Another adventure with the UHC. We hiked the HSCT over two days, started at Cypress and ended in Porteau Cove. We planned to camp at Magnesia Meadows, but didn't quite make it that far on our first day, so we opted for camping out between the Lions! This was probably the most difficult hike we've done. We ascended and descended about 4 peaks/mountains! It was quite the accomplishment; we endured over 30 km of crazy, technical terrain! #UHC

Hiking the Howe Sound Crest Trail | August 2018
Stretching 29 km from Cypress Bowl to Porteau Cove, the Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT) traverses several summits including Vancouver's famous twin peaks, The Lions. On a clear day, hikers are spoilt by breathtaking views of the Howe Sound - on a clear day ;)
Despite the weather, this hike is epic. Toughest hike I've done around Vancouver but so worth it. Thank you Kara, Nicole, Maggie and Steve for the adventure :)
Completed August 2018.

Running the Howe Sound Crest Trail
The Howe Sound Crest Trail is a 29 km route with 2,000 metres of elevation gain starting at Cypress Mtn, passing through the Lions and over multiple summits, before ending at Porteau Cove. It offers spectacular views of Howe Sound, the surrounding mountains, and beautiful turquoise lakes, while covering a variety of terrain.
While the route would normally be tackled as an overnight trip, it can be run in about 8 hours by a reasonably fit trail runner. Read my trip report and learn more at:

Hiking the Howe Sound Crest Trail (Vancouver)
The Howe Sound Crest Trail is a 29 km (18 miles) trail near Vancouver that I hiked in 3 days in September of 2017. Some people trail run it in 1 day but the terrain is very technical and there is a lot of elevation gain and loss. I was happy with my pace. The heat was brutal and convinced me the PCT wasn’t for me... but I’ve changed my tune since!
This video was filmed on the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations, in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
