Rice wines of the world part 3: Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan
I enjoy brewing and drinking delicious Korean rice wine: makgeolli. However, I know it's not the only kind of rice wine. So I googled some other recipes for rice wine and tried to compare these recipes with makgeolli. Please let me know my mistakes in the comments! This is part 3 of 4.
8 DAYS IN TAIWAN 2017 dank vlog (3/3) - Taipei
Welcome to part 3 of my 8 Days in Taiwan travel vlog trilogy!! If you haven't watched part 2/3 (Kaohsiung) yet, here's the link:
After multiple days of returning to the rustic and fishy boutique in Taichung, we finally upgraded our accommodation to that of a decent hotel living space thing in a building... I honestly don't even know where we stayed but it was in the middle of Ximending, you'll probably find one of those on TripAdvisor.
We visited the Liberty Square and the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall where we marvelled at the static soldiers. It pretty much lasted the whole afternoon; our stomaches were empty and our bladders were full so we sojourned at the hotel again before setting out again into the streets of Ximending again to scour for food. There is absolutely no way you will have to worry about food there.
And there was a cool handpanman from Japan ;v;
The next day, we hitched a ride from another family friend who was this HILARIOUS old man who wore colourful shoes to Yehliu Geopark where we saw the famous Queen's Head Rock, Yangmingshan National Park where we saw the absolutely mindblowing sulfure geysers and Qingtiangang Grassland Trails where the scenery was GORGEOUS. Apparently, there were supposed to be cows but we only saw cow dung. The park we went to was also part of Yangmingshan. Just a disclaimer, the entire road up and down smelled like boiled eggs.
To wrap up the day nicely, we had a quick visit to Tamsui District(yet another night market) and Lover's Bridge, bought some souvenirs and had a lot of fun! There was a funny moment on the way back but I will be uploading it separately ;D
Overall, while we did manage to visit a lot of places, I'm sure you will be able to have a lot more fun than I did if you actually planned your trip and are not travelling with a baby. Otherwise a large amount of time will be spent on sleeping. Like, a LARGE amount.
I hope that you'll have a better idea of what places to visit in Taiwan after watching this travel vlog series! Thanks for watching :)

Authors@Google: Jen Lin-Liu
Jen Lin-Liu visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss her book Serve the People: A Stir-Fried Journey Through China. This event took place on November 5, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series.
Lin-Liu's Serve the People records her years living and working in Shanghai and Beijing, when she attended a vocational cooking school and discovered a passion for Chinese cooking and culture. Growing up in the U.S. to Taiwan-born parents, the author admits feeling alienated from her heritage when she first moved to China in 2000. She begins her account with her frustrating yet ultimately rewarding study at the Hualian Cooking School in Beijing, where she apprenticed to one of the school's instructors, Chairman Wang, an old-style cook raised during the Cultural Revolution, who taught the author the rudiments of chopping, shopping and how to pass the cooking exam. Incorporating stories of many of the Chinese she worked alongside (and their recipes), as well as trips to the MSG factory in Henan or to the rice-growing Guangxi province, Lin-Liu offers a thoroughgoing, spirited celebration of overcoming cultural barriers.
Jen Lin-Liu is a Chinese-American writer and the founder of the cooking school Black Sesame Kitchen. A restaurant editor for Zagat Survey and the coauthor of Frommer's Beijing, she has also written for Newsweek, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Saveur, Food & Wine, and Time Out Beijing.

Meet the top 7 largest great white sharks found so far. The great white shark is imposing and dangerous, and some can also be giants.

-THE SEVEN STAR LAKE SHARK
It happened on May 14, 1997 in Hualien County in Taiwan, when a large white was caught in a net game precisely in Seven Star Lake.
-DEEP BLUE SHARK
In 2013, the images of this great white shark became viral all over the world. Therefore, because of its popularity, you should know that it is one of the largest specimens ever seen.

-THE COJIMAR ESPECIMEN
The legend of a monster submerged in its waters was revealed as a gigantic 21 feet long white shark. Truly impressive!
-CANADIAN SHARK
On a hot summer day in early August of 1983, Alberton native David McKendrick, along with his younger brother Steven and his crew, fished near the coast of Prince Edward Island in Canada. Suddenly, 12 miles from the beach, the nets began to stir as if someone were trying to get fish out. A huge shark was stranded there.
-MEXICAN SHARK
In April 2012, two commercial fishermen named Guadalupe and Baltazar entered the Sea of Cortez in search of what they normally caught, such as sole or other types of fish. What they never imagined was that they would encounter a huge shark off the coast of the state of Sonora, northwest of Mexico.
-SHARK OF LEDGE POINT
The great white shark, also known as the great white pointer, is responsible for the majority of sharks attacks recorded against humans.

Against Again Troupe
Kuroshio is the outcome of Against-Again's art residency at Hualien. Directed by troupe founder Snow Huang in collaboration with guest butoh performer Wei-lian Wang, this performance is focused on the dialogue between sound and body. The Kuroshio is an ocean current flowing along the east coast of Taiwan. This flowing current that nourishes the ecosystems along the shoreline is rendered through this performance into a neverending spring of life.
Through the integration of butoh and musical theatre, the relationships between man, faith, and nature are explored. A story is told of a man who, after the death of a friend, embarks on a journey. He steps into an old church, where a memorial concert is being held with no one attending. He interacts with a deaf-mute woman in service to the church, and gradually discovers the weight of the dead he carries on his back. The production designs transform the warehouse of an old winery into an abandoned church. Through symbolic imagery and fables, it addresses issues central to the spirit of butoh such as that of sleep and awakening, death and rebirth, and explores the inner meanings of Requiem.

Pear Mountain Oolong one of the best Organic Oolongs in the world.
Even after being told by locals there were no organic farms in the area we weren’t convinced, so we went exploring. We were extremely lucky after searching for several days, we found an organic tea garden on the back side of Pear Mountain. It is so remote that it would have been impossible to reach without the use of 4 wheel drive, 5 people told us to turn back.
Fortune was upon us when we arrived to meet a Jovial Buddhist Nun, who cultivated this blessed tea garden. I am going to go out on a limb and say this garden, this Nun, this material may be the best we have ever found in our 7 years of sourcing from the region.
The most important thing in sourcing is finding a producer who understands soil fertility and is opposed to petrol chemical fertilizer and pesticides. Someone who shares the same values, people who care about people and the earth winning. Our partners in Li-Shan are nothing short of that, people, who are truly committed to the craft and preserving our precious earth.
This farm is surrounded by a high mountain pine rainforest, which acts as a barrier to pesticides from other farms. Through testing, we found that of the 450+ chemicals used in agriculture 0 were found in this tea. This is truly a product of love.
