Songpan was the 6th place we visited in our China Tour (see We arrived in Songpan in the afternoon. We had still some time to view the old town. The old town of Songpan has still its city walls with city gates. Within these city walls you find some nice streets and wooden bridges. The town suggests that you are in the old China.
The next day we visited Huanglong National Park. Huanglong was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1992. Huanglong is known for its colorful pools and the nice waterfalls. And indeed, it was awesome.
On our way from Songpan to Huanglong we passed a pass of 3960m altitude. Just before the top we came above the clouds. The view on the mountains with the Xuebao Ding (mountain of 5588m) was fantastic. On the way back we got the same surprise.

Huanglong, China
The 'World Wonder' and 'Fairy Land on Earth' are names enjoyed by the Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, which is well known for its colorful lakes, snow clad mountains, valleys and virgin forest. It was included in the UNESCO world heritage list in 1992.
The scenic area is located in Songpan County, in the northwest part of Sichuan Province and encompasses the Huanglong and Muni Valley. The major scenery is concentrated in the 3.6-kilometer (2.2 miles) long Huanglong Valley that includes snow-clad peaks and the easternmost glaciers in China. Due to its layered calcium carbonated deposit patterns, the valley resembles a golden dragon winding its way through the virgin forest, stone mountains and glaciers. Along the valley are scattering numerous colorful ponds of different sizes and shapes, which are strewn with gold colored limestone deposit giving a shimmering golden hue to water, so in sunlight, a golden dragon seems to surge forth from the forest. Thus it was named 'Huanglong Valley' (Yellow Dragon Valley).

Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Sichuan
Located in Songpan County in the northwest part of Sichuan, Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is famed as 'Lake of Immortals on earth' for its extraordinary natural scenery of travertine formations, snow-covered peaks, glaciers, virgin forest, springs and waterfalls.

Huanglong National Park is a little harder to get to than Jiuzhaigou but it's definitely worth staying an extra day in the area for. We took a shuttle bus to Huanglong National Park which is the cheapest way, but if we went again I'd hire a taxi so we wouldn't have to rush. It takes a lot longer to leave the park then we expected.

walk, run, walk.... rest....
you got to bring yourself up to the top of the steps - the best part of the huanglong park.
huff, puff, huff.... breathe hard and deep...
you have to race with time to get yourself up there and down again, so you won't miss your bus....
huanglong - different from its more-famous neighbor(Jiuzhaigou park), deserves all the toil for you will be spoilt with the techi-color, magical scales of the yellow dragon

Huanglong (simplified Chinese: 黄龙; traditional Chinese: 黃龍; pinyin: Huánglóng; literally yellow dragon) is a scenic and historic interest area in the northwest part of Sichuan, China. It is located in the southern part of the Minshan mountain range, 150 kilometres (93 mi) north-northwest of the capital Chengdu. This area is known for its colorful pools formed by calcite deposits, especially in Huanglonggou (Yellow Dragon Gully), as well as diverse forest ecosystems, snow-capped peaks, waterfalls and hot springs. Huanglong is also home to many endangered species including the Giant Panda and the Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkey. Huanglong was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992. -wikipedia-

ROAD TRIP from JIUZHAIGOU to HUANGLONG, MAOXIAN, LESHAN and EMEISHAN
This short video is Part 2 of our Amazing Tour in Sichuan, China, on 6 May 2016.
This part covers our trip from JiuZhaiGou back to Chengdu with stop at several interesting places, e.g:
- Huanglong Scenic Area
- Xuebaoding (Snow Treasure Peak)
- Zongpan Statue in Maoxian, then we overnight in Maoxian
- The Leshan Giant Buddha
- Fu Hu Temple at Emeishan.
Then we proceeded to Chengdu to flight to Changsha for visit the ZhangJiaJie Geopark.
