Hanging Temple of Hengshan - Datong, China
The magnificent, gravity defying Hanging Temple is one of the world's forgotten wonders. Clinging to a crag of Hengshan mountain the temple consists of 40 rooms linked by a dizzying maze of narrow passageways.
The temple was constructed by drilling holes into the cliffs side into which oak crossbeams and oak poles hold up the temple. The main supportive structure is hidden inside the bedrock.
The monastery is located in the small canyon basin, and the body of the building hangs from the middle of the cliff under the prominent summit, protecting the temple from rain, erosion and sunlight.
Interestingly the temple is dedicated to not just one religion, but three, with Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism all practiced within the temple and represented in 78 statues and carvings throughout the temple.
The Hanging Temple is also know as the Hanging Monastery or Xuankong, it's located about 60 km southwest of Datong, China in Shanxi province. The temple is said to have been built by a monk named Liao Ran during the late Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534 AD) and restored in 1900.
The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2010, it was listed in 'Time Magazine' as the world's top ten most odd dangerous buildings.

The Mystery of The Longyou Caves
In 1992, a strangely curious man named Wu Anai, near the Chinese village of Shiyan Beicun in Longyou County, based on a hunch, began to pump water out of a pond in his village. Anai believed the pond was not natural, nor was it infinitely deep as the local lore went, and he decided to prove it. He convinced some of his villagers and together they bought a water pump and began to siphon water out of the pond. After 17 days of pumping, the water level fell enough to reveal the flooded entrance to an ancient, man-made cave, confirming Anai’s suspicion.
This cave, now called the Longyou Caves, represent one of the largest underground excavation made during ancient times. A total of 24 hand-dug caves were eventually discovered, each with an average floor area of a thousand square meters and ceilings that reaches heights of up to 30 meters. The total area covered by all the caves exceeds 30,000 square meters.

Mysterious or another man-made tourist destination? You won't know when you are in china.
It is mysterious because the locals do not know who made the caves and for what purpose such caves were carved out of the hills. It is said to be carved out thousand of years ago with handtools. However the marks on the rocks are so symmetrical it looked like the work of modern machines. They claimed not to have found any historical record of the place so the place became a mystery and it was only discovered in the early 20th century. They found signs of human inhabitants there with some pieces of broken potteries and stuff.
I for one is sceptical about their claims. If it's not man-made, then perhaps aliens were here before. Don't believe all that you hear of the place. Many things are just made for tourism. That, from my many travelling experience to China.
