The Fangyuan Building in Shenyang was ranked in the top
ten ugliest global buildings, released by CNN Go website.
The news drew widespread concerns online.
The building's appearance is like an ancient Chinese coin.
Online comments say it is unattractive from afar,
and depressing from near, glorifying money supremacy.
Scholars believe the outcome indicates China's status quo,
traditional culture loss, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials' vulgar and weird pursuits.
CNN's leisure and travel site, CNN Go, selected the top ten
most controversial buildings in the world.
North Korea's Ryugyong Hotel, Dubai's Atlantis Hotel and
the Fangyuan Building in Shengyang, China, made the list.
The Fangyuan Building is located in the Finance
and Trade Zone of Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
Designed by Taiwan-based C.Y. Lee & Partners, the 24-floor
building has its facade built in a shape of ancient Chinese coin.
The building's designer endeavored to fuse East and West.
Yet, The circular design looks incongruous while the plate
glass windows and concrete base are depressingly run-of-the-mill, CNN Go says.
Sun Wenguang, a retired professor at Shandong University,
comments on the issue.
Over the years, the culture in China has lacked free air.
The expression of culture became rather vulgar.
Prof. Sun: This shows that China's officialdom corruption
has been manifested in many ways.
All the constructions go after large and weird effects,
instead of expediency.
This building is a coin, round with a central square hole.
It implies to turn toward money.
The mainland's officialdom is just like this,
the pursuit of money is usually their first priority.
Prof. Sun said that huge tax revenue has been squandered
for showy displays and tall buildings.
The wealthy officials get wealthier
while the general public gets poorer.
Petitioner Zhang Shijun suffered forcible home demolition
by Shanghai's CCP authorities.
Zhang reflects that the authorities have not given him
a penny compensation for the past 11 years.
Zhang Shijun: You have no place to petition. Whenever they
hold conference, they'll put you under house arrest.
Or you'll be locked into a hotel room,
or somewhere like a concentration camp in a suburb.
The second online poll for China's top ten ugliest buildings
was recently released.
Shanghai World Expo China Pavilion, Xi'an New Famen
Temple and CCTV Tower ranked as the top three.
Huaxi Village in Jiangyin, Jiangsu province, also made
the list, known for plagiarizing a world famous building design.
Netizens mocked that the creative designs touted
and funded by the local authorities are neither fish nor fowl.
Prof. Sun: It prefers to pour money into building
show-off projects, yet ignoring the poor residents' needs.
This has created a very sharp contrast.
World Expo China Pavilion tops the list
of China's ugliest buildings.
Netizens comment that it is staggered intersections like a pile
of wood, with a few sticks standing like a square nest.
The second ugliest is Xi'an New Famen Temple,
which was accused of lacking Buddhist nature.
The third one, Beijing-based CCTV Tower, was satire like
two separated legs, that will go well with a toilet underneath.

Is China's Richest Village Real?

Huaxi, a village in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province,
is known as the richest village in China.
Wu Renbao, Party Secretary of Huaxi, recently passed away.
His children took over his role at the Huaxi Group.
Is Huaxi in fact a centralized and
family owned hereditary system?
Or is Huaxi a scam? The following is our report.
Wu Renbao, Chairman of Huaxi Group and Party Secretary
of Huaxi village, died of lung cancer on March 18.
Huaxi, a village in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province,
has a population of 1,500 and occupies 0.37 square miles.
Wu Renbao developed Huaxi Group with the governmental
support during the Communist regime's 30 years of reform.
It owns 104 companies. In 2005, Huaxi Group had
a total sales of over 30 billion yuan.
As much as three billion yuan was spent building the Longxi
International Hotel in Huaxi at Huaxi Village's expense.
Huaxi Village is claimed to be the richest village
by the authorities.
This model socialist village has become the template path
for the rural Chinese to prosper.
Many local governments and villages have arranged
representatives to visit Huaxi in hopes of learning from this model.
Accordingly, one night in the presidential suite
of this five-star hotel costs 100,000 yuan.
An Internet post on Jiang Guo Forum indicated that Huaxi
Village's prosperous image is rather fake and built with debt.
The richest peasants don't live to the regular standard.
The villagers are closely monitored, managed in a manner
of centralized, and are strictly prohibited to contact outsiders.
With limited allowance, any other expenses need approval.
If one decides to leave the village, all personal property must stay.
Activist from Jiangsu, Gu Zhijian: Wu Renbao is a villain.
Knowing the Communist rule well, he manipulated
the policy and grabbed the resources.
The regime needed someone like him as a template.
In the process, the general public doesn't have any choice.
Observer He Junchiao visited Huaxi Village in 2005.
He said that the houses appeared good.
However, the whole village was walled and guarded
at the entrance. The streets looked deserted.
Observer He Junchiao: I went with a hope,
but I was very disappointed. I did not see happiness.
I did not see anything particularly interesting. I was only
intrigued by the fact that there's no one on the street.
He Junchiao believed that for 30 years of reform,
in order to boast the outcome of socialist village,
the regime needs a Huaxi Village to cover up.
For years, the Huaxi model has been criticized,
for the second Huaxi Village has not been seen.
He Junchiao: Huaxi Village model is unreliable.
A model that can not be replicated must be fake.
There's got to be some problem with it.
People would question it.
However, in August 2011, in millions of dollars of ads
in New York's Times Square, Huaxi Village claimed to be the number one village in China.
Gu Zhijian: There should be a question mark about
the prosperity of Huaxi Village.
I believe it comes with lots governmental debt
and loans from the government.
Even if Huaxi is rich, I believe 90% of the wealth
is controlled by Wu Renbao's family.
Wu Renbao's fourth son, Wu Xiéen, is said to have taken
over the Party Secretary position of Huaxi Village
as well as the chairman of the board and
general manager positions of Huaxi Group.
Other subsidiary companies of Huaxi Group
will be headed by Wu Renbao's other children.
Many Chinese netizens criticized the Huaxi model as a scam
and the epitome of personal centralized and patrimonialism.

Inside China's 'richest village': The mysterious Socialist town
Inside China's 'richest village': The mysterious Socialist town where every resident has '£100K in the bank' - but once you leave you lose everything
• Huaxi, in east China, has a 72-storey skyscraper, helicopter taxis and rows upon rows of lavish villas
• The village's hotel contains a £11K/$13K-per-night presidential suite and an ox statue made of gold
• The community, dubbed 'the richest village in China', celebrated its 55th anniversary last month
• Chinese state media have used the village to prove the success of the leadership of Communist Party
• However, some people have challenged its centralised system, suggesting its prosperity was a hoax
A 72-storey skyscraper, helicopter taxis, a theme park and rows upon rows of luxurious villas, this is as extravagant as a village could be.
Welcome to Huaxi, a place situated in east China's Jiangsu Province and dubbed 'the richest village' of the country.
Every one of its 2,000 residents is said to have more than one million yuan (£116,000/$143,000) in the bank; and each family is given a car and a villa by the authority once they move in.
But the catch is, once you leave, you leave lose all your belongs.
uaxi, which claims to run under a strict Socialist system, celebrated its 55th anniversary last month.
The village is administrated by Jiangyin city in Jiangsu Province, a coastal region traditionally known for its abundant agricultural resources and beautiful landscapes.
It is a two-hour drive from China's economic powerhouse Shanghai.
For years, Huaxi has been used by the Chinese authority as a showcase of success to prove how the Communist regime has turned a poor village into a super wealthy region in half a century.
Above the entrance to Huaxi, a huge sign that reads 'the number one village under the sky' is placed on the gate. This is another nickname the country has given to the village.
Huaxi's fortune appears to be immense.
The village hit the headlines across the country in 2003 when it announced that its yearly economic volume had reached 100 billion yuan (£11.7 billion/$14.4billion), according to Economic Strategies and Practice of Modern China.
One year later, Huaxi announced that the average annual salary of its residents was 122,600 yuan (£14,319/$17,717) - about 40 times the average income of a farmer in China.
To show off its economic might, the village even spent three billion yuan (£350 millon/$430million) building its own skyscraper in 2011.
The 72-storey structure is dubbed the Hanging Village of Huaxi.
Soaring 328 metres (1,076ft) into the sky of Huaxi, the impressive building is four metres taller than the Eiffel Tower (324m) in Paris, nine metres taller than the Chrysler Building (319m) in New York and 18 metres taller than the Shard (309m) in Central London.
Inside the towering structure is the 'super five-star' Long Wish International Hotel. The 826-room hotel contains 16 presidential suites and one 'gold' presidential suite which will cost the guest a 100,000-yuan dent (£11,600) to check in for the night.
The presidential suites are typical representations of the Chinese ideas of wealth: large crystal chandeliers, gilded shelves, marble baths, and mahogany furniture.
On the 60th floor, the same level of the golden presidential suite, there is not just an amazing view to be enjoyed, but also a bling statue of an ox crafted from one tonne of pure gold.
Also in 2011, Huaxi celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding by staging a lavish entertainment gala, inviting A-list Chinese stars to sing and dance.
The village also has its own luxury transport company, which sends, not cars, but helicopters to shuttle its residents. The operator, Tongyong Airline Company, said all journeys to surrounding cities could be made in less than 10 minutes.
As if all the above are not enough, the impressive village has also constructed a theme park which houses replicas of famous monuments, such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.
In addition, a village museum containing 800 ancient relics has been built whose appearance resembles China's top-notch Palace Museum.

3 Desa Terkaya Didunia :
1.Desa Huaxi China
2.Desa Oberwil-lieli, Swiss
3.Desa Hiware Bazar, India
Kebahagiaan dinikmati warga desa, Kesulitan dipikul pejabat
2.Desa Oberwil-Lieli, Swiss
3.Desa Hiware Bazar, India
