Dihua Street area hosts tea culture and pastry-making events
The business district around Dihua Street in Taipei is in shaking things up this month. They’re testing out a pedestrian zone system on weekends and holidays, and many local shop owners are also holding special cultural events to promote local goods. One Chinese medicinal store has developed a range of new drinks and is offering customers a taste of traditional tea culture.The precious medicinal ingredient hasma is added to deftly mixed flower tea. This Chinese herbal shop assistant has a manner more like a cocktail artist. The herbal shop has developed a number of special mixed drinks, and pastries also made with medicinal ingredients.In the area around Dihua Street you can even try your hand at making pastries, putting the dough and filling in the mould, giving it a few sharp taps, and watching with satisfaction as your cake comes out.There are also free events for those who want to learn about tea culture. Dihua Street is trialing a pedestrian zone at weekends and public holidays throughout September. The business district has brought local products in and shop owners are getting creative with their promotional events.Hsu Ching-chiDihua Street Business Association HeadWith this event, we estimate we will attract about 20 percent more young people than we normally receive.Perhaps the shakeup of the Dihua Street area will help traditional Chinese herbal shops, tea shops, and grocers come into the 21st century, and attract more young people to experience local culture.
