This video is about Phuoc Tich, an ancient village in the province of Hue. Nestled beside the winding o lau river, Phuoc
Tich is a rare piece of history that has remained intact despite of the war. It showcases the architecture of old vietnam, preserves the traditional culture and religious practices of the past, and people still live there the same way they did in the early 1900's. At 9am we motorbiked the 40k from Hue to Phuoc Tich in about 1.5 hours, explored the village for another hour, and arrived back in Hue around 2pm. No tours needed if you can ride a motorbike, there's not much a tour guide can do here :) There is a huge map at the entrance of the village in English for you to use as a guide.

We returned to the abandoned water park outside of Hue, Vietnam the next day to do some more exploring. There used to be an aquarium and waterpark with slides.... little did we know there's still hardware from the slides sticking out of the ground randomly! This one was painful as Amanda found a bolt with her big toe.

HUE IN ONE DAY | THISIZZTHELIFE
Join us exploring the town of Hue, Vietnam in only one day! We visit some of Hue's main attractions including the Royal Tombs, Hue Citadel & Imperial City, Incense Making Village and Thien Mu Pagoda.
First up we visit Hue Citadel & Imperial City, including the Forbidden City in Hue! It was absolutely fascinating to learn about the history of the forbidden city, which historically only the Emperor of Vietnam, his Concubines and Eunuchs were allowed inside!
Next we visited Garden House, which historically was a house belonging to a princess. It had a beautiful garden with plenty of fruit, I even try a Vietnamese Strawberry!
We then make our way to Thien Mu Pagoda which has a beautiful collection of Bonsai Trees in the courtyard.
We visit the tomb of Minh Mang, the second Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnam. He is pretty famous and we were told that he was kept busy with over 500 concubines & 142 children!
Next we visit the Tomb of Khai Dinh (the Twelfth Emperor). This tomb was breathtaking and I would 100% recommend visiting!
Incense Making Village is up next where I have a go at rolling incense (not as easy as it looks)!
We visit Tu Duc's Tomb (Fourth Emperor) before finishing the day on a boat ride through the city of Hue!

Imperial City of Hue has long been a must-see attraction for tourists visiting a hidden charm of Vietnam. The Imperial City of Hue was actually a walled fortress and palace belonged to the ancient city of Hue which was a capital city of the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years date back from 1805 until 1945. The Imperial City of Hue has a circumference of 10 kilometers with the height of 6.6 meters and 21 meters thick with forts being arranged, accompanied by cannons, artillery. Initially the fortress was built solely by soil, only to be replaced by bricks afterward. Surrounding the city is the complicated canal system served not only as a protection but also as a waterway with nearly seven kilometers. There are total of ten main majestic gates leading to the Imperial City of Hue, which can be divided into two main parts excluding houses and mansions: The Citadel and The Forbidden City. The former served to protect the important palaces inside while the latter was where the emperor and the royal family stayed as well as the court’s workplace. All the typically traditional Eastern architectures including majestic palaces, tombs and museums stand accordingly together to make an utmost amusing attraction right in the heart of Vietnam.

Thành phố Huế của Huế thật sự là một pháo đài và cung điện có tường bao quanh thành phố Huế cổ xưa, vốn là một thành phố thủ đô của triều Nguyễn trong suốt 140 năm từ năm 1805 đến năm 1945. Thành phố Hoàng đế Huế có chu vi 10 km với Chiều cao 6,6 mét và dày 21 mét, pháo đài được sắp xếp theo chiều dọc, kèm theo khẩu pháo, pháo binh và đạn dược. Ban đầu pháo đài chỉ được xây dựng bằng đất, chỉ để được thay bằng gạch sau đó. Xung quanh thành phố là hệ thống kênh rạch phức tạp phục vụ không chỉ như một bảo vệ mà còn là một tuyến đường thủy với gần bảy cây số. Có tổng cộng mười cổng hùng vĩ đến Thành phố Huế của Huế, có thể được chia thành hai phần chính trừ nhà ở và biệt thự: Thành cổ và Tử Cấm Thành. La ville impériale de Hue a longtemps été incontournable pour les touristes qui visitent un charme caché du Vietnam. La ville impériale de Hue était en fait une forteresse fortifiée et le palais appartenait à l'ancienne ville de Hue qui était une capitale de la dynastie Nguyen pendant 140 ans remontant de 1805 à 1945. La ville impériale de Hue a une circonférence de 10 kilomètres avec La hauteur de 6,6 mètres et 21 mètres d'épaisseur, les forts étant arrangés par des méandres, accompagnés de canons, d'artilleries et de munitions. Initialement, la forteresse était construite uniquement par le sol, mais elle devait être remplacée par des briques par la suite. En bordure de la ville, le système de canal compliqué est servi non seulement comme protection, mais aussi comme voie navigable à près de sept kilomètres. Il y a un total de dix principales portes majestueuses menant à la ville impériale de Hue, qui peut être divisée en deux parties principales, à l'exclusion des maisons et des demeures: la citadelle et la cité interdite. Le premier servait à protéger les palais importants à l'intérieur tandis que le dernier était où l'empereur et la famille royale restaient ainsi que le lieu de travail de la cour. Toutes les architectures typiquement traditionnelles de l'Est, y compris les palais majestueux, les tombeaux et les musées, s'accordent ensemble pour faire une attraction amusante au cœur du Vietnam.

The #Imperial #City (Vietnamese: #Hoàng #thành) is a walled palace within the #citadel ( #Kinh thành ) of the city of Huế, the former imperial #capital of #Vietnam. The building was built in 1362, and took 203 years to complete. Many consider this building to be a symbol of wealth and power as boars carried the materials from Hoi An.
In June 1789 Nguyễn Ánh took control of Vietnam and proclaimed himself Emperor Gia Long. His rule was recognized by China in 1804. Gia Long consulted with geomancers to decide which was the best place for a new palace and citadel to be built. After the geomancers had decided on a suitable site in Huế, building began in 1804. Thousands of workers were ordered to produce a wall and moat, 10 kilometers long. Initially the walls were earthen, but later these earthen walls were replaced by stone walls, 2 meters thick.
The citadel was oriented to face the Huong River to the east. This was different from the Forbidden City in Beijing, which faces south. The Emperor's palace is on the east side of the citadel, nearest the river. A second set of tall walls and a second moat was constructed around the Emperor's palace. Many more palaces and gates and courtyards and gardens were subsequently added. The reigns of the last Vietnamese Emperors lasted until the mid-1900s. At the time, the Purple Forbidden City had many buildings and hundreds of rooms. It suffered from termite and cyclone damage, but was still very impressive. Many bullet holes left over from the Vietnam War can be observed on the stone walls.
In the early morning hours of January 31, 1968, as part of the Tet Offensive a Division-sized force of North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong soldiers launched a coordinated attack on Huế seizing most of the city. During the initial phases of the Battle of Hue, due to Huế's religious and cultural status, US troops were ordered not to bomb or shell the city, for fear of destroying the historic structures; but as casualties mounted in house-to-house fighting these restrictions were progressively lifted and the fighting caused substantial damage to the Imperial City. Out of 160 buildings only 10 major sites remain because of the battle, such as the Thái Hòa and Cần Thanh temples, Thế Miếu, and Hiển Lâm Các. The city was made a UNESCO site in 1993. The buildings that still remain are being restored and preserved. The latest and so far the largest restoration project is planned to conclude in 2015.
The grounds of the Imperial City are protected by fortified ramparts 2 kilometers by 2 kilometers, and ringed by a moat. The water in the moat is routed from the Perfume River through a series of sluice gates. This enclosure is the citadel (Kinh thành).
Inside the citadel is the Imperial City (Hoàng thành), with a perimeter wall some 2.5 kilometers in length.
Within the Imperial City is the Purple Forbidden City (Tử cấm thành), a term similar to the #Forbidden #City in #Beijing. Access to the innermost enclosure was restricted to the imperial family.

Inside the Imperial Citadel of Hue, Vietnam
Hue, the Imperial City of the Nguyen dynasty since the 1800s, is a Unesco site. Here you will still see many grand buildings of once a powerful kingdom, despite the ravages of wars. We visited Hue in Dec 2012. We travelled from HCMC and landed in Hue Airport. Our first itinerary is a boat ride to Thien Mu Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in Hue City. From there, we took a lunch break at a famous restaurant serving Hue's most famous common food, the Bun Bo Hue, a soupy noodle with beef and pork. This was followed by a tour of the Citadel where once the Emperor and his Royal family lived. Inside there is the throne room, library, temple and even an opera house. The city was made a UNESCO site in 1993. The buildings that still remain are being restored and preserved. The latest, and so far largest, restoration project is planned to conclude in 2015.[5]
