Located at the southeast coast of China, Xiamen 厦门 - 廈門 - is a tourist city of Fujian Province famous for its attractive seascape. As one of the major seaports since ancient times, it boasts a wide gulf with deep water but without freezing and silting. The name was consequently given, which means 'a gate of China'. As one of the forerunners of the special economic zones of China, the city mainly consisting of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu Island, the north bank area of the Jiulong River and Tong'an County, is connected with the mainland by the Gaoji Seawall, Xiamen Bridge, etc. The city has been called the Egret Island because of the hundreds of thousands of egrets inhabiting there. This is due to the beautiful natural scenery, the fresh air and the clean environment of the city.
Being of a subtropical monsoon climate with mild weather all year round expect the typhoon months, Xiamen is an ideal tourist destination for you. It is a typical littoral city with abundant tourist attractions such as islands, mountains, temples and parks, etc., providing you with a full sightseeing schedule. The well-known Gulangyu Island, South Putuo Temple and other areas like Jimei, Hulishan Fortress, Wanshiyan, etc. are highly recommended for a tour. Summer 2018 China Vlog Episode 10: For the last two days of our time in Xiamen, we had one final visit to some local businesses before being given free time to relax in the city. I spent an afternoon in the botanical garden and a day on the beach. Whilst at the beach, I also took a quick look around the Hulishan Cannon Fort.

Golden Lake and Ganlu rock temple in Taining China
Despite arriving too early and freezing on that January morning waiting for the ticket booth to open, this was a beautiful picturesque location. The rock formations are impressive and the 900 year old Ganlu temple built into the mountain caves is a sight to behold.
I will never forget the trip we made from Xiamen to Taining to visit the famous golden lake. We had arrived in Taining late in the evening and we had to get up early the next morning and head to the golden lake port to get our tickets and get on the tour boat. That morning was one of the coldest I’ve ever experienced in china. We had arrived too early and the ticket kiosk hadn’t opened yet and we were freezing cold. Luckily we found a shop that was open and serving hot noodles, this was literally a life saver. Golden lake and the Ganlu Buddhist rock temple was stunningly rich with natural beauty and history.
