Kingston Upon Hull City Of Culture
Kingston upon hull city of culture is a City and unitary authority area in the ceremonial county of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It stands on the River Hull at its junction with the Humber estuary, 25 miles (40 km) inland from the North Sea. Hull has a resident population of 256,100 (2011 est.).
The town of Hull was founded late in the 12th century. The monks of Meaux Abbey needed a port where the wool from their estates could be exported. They chose a place at the junction of the rivers Hull and Humber to build a quay.
The exact year Hull was founded is not known but it was first mentioned in 1193. It was called Wyke on Hull.Renamed Kings-town upon Hull by King Edward I in 1299, the town and city of Hull has served as market town, military supply port, a trading hub, fishing and whaling centre, and industrial metropolis.
Hull was an early theatre of battle in the English Civil Wars. Its 18th-century Member of Parliament, William Wilberforce, played a key role in the abolition of the slave trade in Britain.

Made in Hull Hull City of Culture 2017 We are Hull
Made in Hull was the opening season of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 and began with an opening event which ran from 1–7 January 2017. The opening event was devised by creative director Sean McAllister and writer Rupert Creed. It consisted of installations in eight locations across the city of Hull and marked the beginning of the city's period as UK City of Culture. The headline location was a multimedia sound and light installation in Hull's Queen Victoria Square, entitled We Are Hull and devised by Zsolt Balogh with a soundtrack by Dan Jones.
They watched in awe as stunning images of Hull's past, from the thriving but tragic fishing industry to the crazy delights of Hull Fair, flashed before them on the walls of the city's most iconic buildings. The event laid down the gauntlet for 2017 in mesmerising style, with a feast of sounds and images that turned the city centre into one huge canvas.Crowds who flocked to Queen Victoria Square were glued to the striking images that surrounded them as they were projected on to City Hall, Ferens Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum. The film by Zsolt Balogh, also featured the horrors of the Blitz, our footballing history, maritime heritage and the new Siemens plant.
