Ship of the Gods, complete sequence viewed from the interior of Hull Minster
Ship of The Gods.
Video, sound and light installation created for Hull Minster, Kingston upon Hull.
Commissioned by Absolutely Cultured for Urban Legends: Northern Lights 29 November - 2 December 2018.
Ship of the Gods was installed inside the Minster for 3 nights and then outside in Trinity Square on the final night. This video shows the entire sequence from various positions over the 4 nights, including outside in Trinity Square with the facade of Hull Minster in the background. Well over 40,000 people experienced the installation, most of this film was taken either before the Minster was open or during the quieter times towards the end of each night.
Ship of the Gods is inspired by the Norse myth of Skidbladnir, a magical shape-shifting vessel which was large enough to carry all the gods and their equipment yet could be folded up small enough to fit inside a pocket. Heinrich and Palmer connect this story with the landscapes of Norway and Hull's maritime history, re-imagining Skidbladnir through the forms of the Arctic Corsair, the Spurn Lightship and models found within Hull Maritime Museum and Hull and East Riding Museum.
Using film, 3D laser scanning technology, sound and lighting effects, the ghostly, ephemeral Ship of the Gods will sail and transform through the majestic space of Hull Minster.
Ship of the Gods was supported by Hull: Yorkshire's Maritime City, Hull City Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd, Humber Museums Partnership and Arts Council England.

After cleaning and partial reconstruction they'll be on show at the RAF Museum. ® ® And a new lease of life for the only remaining Swordfish torpedo-bomber as it takes to the air with an engine from the Imperial War Museum. Known as the Stringbags - these aircraft had a great wartime record and were the last bi-planes to see action.
