18. Seifenkistenrennen am Hülser Berg in Krefeld
Zahlreiche Besucher ließen sich am vergangenen Sonntag das Krefelder Seifenkistenrennen nicht entgehen. An der 500 Meter langen Rennstrecke am Hülser Berg bestaunten sie die liebevoll hergestellten, originellen Kisten. Nach den Probeläufen, die bereits am frühen Morgen starteten, eröffnete Oberbürgermeister Frank Meyer das eigentliche Rennen. Gemeinsam mit den Organisatoren der Veranstaltung schob Meyer die Europa Kiste – ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt zwischen Krefeld und Venlo – als erstes Fahrzeug an den Start. Der Fachbereich Jugendhilfe hat die Veranstaltung auch in diesem Jahr mit finanzieller Unterstützung der Sparkasse sowie der DEVK und des Automobil-Clubs Verkehr (ACV) durchgeführt.

2016 Seifenkistenrennen Krefeld am Hülser Berg
Die KPJH hat im Jahr 2016 erstmalig wieder am Seifenkistenrennen am Hülser Berg teilgenommen. Der rollende Karl gehörte zu den schnellsten Fahrzeugen in der Jux-Wertung. die Seifenkiste wurde gemeinsam mit den Kindern im Zeltlager 2016 gebaut.

Liebe Zuschauer, Krefeld im September des Jahres 2013 oder eine Stadt reißt sich ab. Wir haben für Sie einige markante Orte fotografiert um damit die teils radikale Veränderungen zu dokumentieren. Nun in den vergangenen 30 Jahren wurde viel abgerissen, einiges erneuert und vieles zerstört. Die Stadt wurde schlecht regiert und ist heute quasi pleite. Wichtige finanzielle Entscheidungen dürfen nur mit Zustimmung der Bezirksregierung in Düsseldorf getroffen werden. Der Stadtrat ist in den nächsten Jahren also entmündigt und hat vorsorglich schon einmal zahlreiche Baustellen angefangen. Naja, sehen Sie auch einige schöne Bilder der einst ( um 1748 ) reichsten Stadt Deutschlands. Möglich machten es die Seidenbarone deren prunkvolle Kaufmannshäuser noch heute an diese glorreiche Zeit erinnern. So und nun viel Spaß beim anschauen.

On the left bank of the Rhine, not far from Düsseldorf, Krefeld is a conurbation of towns incorporated into a city at the start of the 20th century. At that time Krefeld was a booming textiles town with a forte for silk and velvet weaving. Even now, Krefeld is called the “Samt- und Seidenstadt,” velvet and silk city, and there are still a few places recording this heritage.
One is the German Textiles Museum, which draws on one of the world’s richest collections of fabrics. The affluence generated by textile manufacturing is also unmistakeable in some of the properties in the city: The most remarkable are Haus Lange and Haus Esters, designed by Bauhaus member Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and now a department of the city’s art museum.
In the eastern suburb of Linn is the oldest castle on the Lower Rhine. Burg Linn was raised by the local landowner Otto von Linn in the 1100s and by the 1400s was one of the largest moated castles in the region. In the 18th-century hunting lodge neighbouring the castle there’s a museum for the Lower Rhine region. The lodge was for the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne, Clemens August of Bavaria.
The main building for the Kunstmuseen Krefeld is in an Eclectic-style palace inaugurated in 1899. The museum’s reserve is enormous, consisting of 14,000 works from the fields of painting, sculpture, graphical art, applied art, photography and new media . The strong point though is 20th-century art, beginning with sculpture by Rodin, one of Monet’s studies of the Houses of the Parliament and paintings by Expressionists like Emil Nolde, Heinrich Campendonk, Kandinsky and Kirchner.
Haus Lange and Haus Esters come under the “Kunstmuseen Krefeld” umbrella and are both museum pieces in their own right. The German Textile Museum has an internationally recognised fund of textiles, clothing and woven fabrics from all time periods and parts of the world.
If you need a breather or somewhere for a morning jog, Uerdingen’s city park is somewhere to keep on the radar. There’s even more horticulture at Krefeld’s botanical garden in the Oppum district. On Luisenstraße 15 is a museum with a privileged insight into Krefeld’s silk and velvet industries. This house contained a workshop where for more than 100 years liturgical vestments were woven from Chinese and Italian silk yarns.
Krefeld’s most visited attraction is its zoo, which opened in 1938 and today welcomes more than half a million people a year. The origins of Krefeld’s city forest go back a century to the silk manufacturer Wilhelm Deuß who donated land to the city and set up a foundation for a much-needed recreation space for Krefeld’s workers.
If you need an idea for an evening out, Krefeld’s Kulturfabrik is a performing arts venue in a converted factory. Hülser Berg, the tallest natural hill is also here and has a 30-metre lookout tower, the Johannesturm at its crest. In Uerdingen by the Rhine there’s a brandy distillery anchored in Napoleon’s occupation of the left bank of the Rhine at the start of the 19th century.
At Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 42, Villa Merländer is the home of the Krefeld silk merchant Richard Merländer, who was born in Mülheim just across the Rhine in 1874. He was both homosexual and Jewish and so was persecuted by the Nazis, being forced to sell his business and property for less than they were worth in the 1930s. In North Rhine-Westphalia the conurbation is compact enough that within half an hour you could be in any number of other exciting places.

Schluff - ein Nostalgie-Ereignis in Krefeld
Der Schluff ist nicht gerade ein Schnellzug, aber dafür ein Nostalgie-Erlebnis der ganz besonderen Art. Die Lokomotive Graf Bismarck XV zieht die Waggons der historischen Crefelder Eisenbahn von Mai bis Oktober sonn- und feiertags und verkehrt zwischen St. Tönis und Hülser Berg.

The Schluff is not really an express train, but it is certainly a nostalgic event in a very special way. On Sundays and holidays between May and October the locomotive Graf Bismarck XV moves the railroad cars of the historical Crefelder Eisenbahn between St. Tönis and Hülser Berg.

Fahren mit dem Schluff
Der Schluff – Krefelds historische Dampfeisenbahn – gehört zu den ältesten Privatbahnen in Deutschland. 1868 wurde die Krefelder Eisenbahn gegründet. Der Name Schluff erinnert an das zischende Geräusch der Lok, das dem einer schlurfenden Pantoffel – auf niederrheinisch Schluffe – ähnlich ist.
Von dem Streckennetz der bis heute privaten Eisenbahn ist die Verbindung zwischen St. Tönis und Hülser Berg erhalten geblieben. Seit dem 1. Mai 1980 fährt auf dieser Strecke eine Museumseisenbahn. An jedem Sonntag zwischen Mai und Oktober fahren hunderte von Fahrgästen mit dem Schluff von St. Tönis über Nordbahnhof zum schönen Naherholungsgebiet Hülser Berg. Mitgebrachte Fahrräder finden in einem eigens dafür angehängten Packwagen Platz.
Graf Bismarck XV
Die imposante Graf Bismarck XV ist eine Lok von 1947. Sie war ursprünglich in der Zeche Bismarck in Gelsenkirchen im Einsatz. Mittlerweile ist die Lok zum rollenden Denkmal erklärt worden und ein Wahrzeichen Krefelds.

Light Oil Fired Steam Locomotive in Krefeld, Germany
Ex colliery steam locomotive in action on preserved railway which runs between St. Tönis
and Hülser Berg via Krefeld Nord and Hüls. The formerly coal-fired locomotive used to
operate on the Ruhr District Bismarck Colliery in Gelsenkirchen. After pit closures
a new home was found in Krefeld and in 1980 the locomotive converted from coal
to light oil firing. The firing sytem is by no means conventional as it is electrically
controlled and regulated unlike the type featured on conventional oil-fired steam
locomotives controlled by superheated steam. Hence it was necessary to fit a
diesel generator for the electricity supply to the burner which came from an old
boiler house. Two further steam turbo generators are also fitted to supply power
to the locomotive (interior cab lights, headlamps) and the train.
The sound of the diesel aggregate can be distinctly heard whilst the locomotive
is running.

Bradbury Bks in Krefeld closed in 2002 access has been very limited since then. Approx one third of the camp is still utilised my local companies and these are occupying the LAD side of the camp. This video is a quick loop of the camp starting by the sqn garages. There is no audio as i didn't want to render the 4k footage.
