Hulunbuir or Hulun Buir (Mongolian: ᠬᠥᠯᠥᠨ ᠪᠤᠶᠢᠷ ᠬᠣᠲᠠ, Kölün buyir, Cyrillic: Хөлөнбуйр, Khölönbuir; Chinese: 呼伦贝尔, Hūlúnbèi'ěr) is a region that is governed as a prefecture-level city in northeastern Inner Mongolia, China. Its administrative center is located at Hailar District, its largest urban area. Major scenic features are the high steppes of the Hulun Buir grasslands, the Hulun and Buir lakes (the latter partially in Mongolia), and the Khingan range. Hulun Buir borders Russia to the north and west, Mongolia to the south and west, Heilongjiang province to the east and Hinggan League to the direct south. Hulunbuir is a linguistically diverse area: next to Mandarin Chinese, Mongolian dialects such as Khorchin and Buryat, the Mongolic language Daur, and some Tungusic languages are spoken there.

Hulunbuir City, China
Hulunbuir or Hulun Buir is a region that is governed as a prefecture-level city in northeastern Inner Mongolia, China. Its administrative center is located at Hailar District, its largest urban area. Major scenic features are the high steppes of the Hulun Buir grasslands, the Hulun and Buir lakes and the Khingan range. Hulun Buir borders Russia to the north and west. Hulunbuir is a linguistically diverse area: next to Mandarin Chinese, Mongolian dialects such as Khorchin and Buryat, the Mongolic language Daur, and some Tungusic languages are spoken there.
Hulunbuir itself (Hailar) has a humid continental climate. Winters are long, very dry and severe, due to the semi−permanent Siberian High, while summers are short, though very warm, and rather wet, due to the East Asian monsoon. At Hailar, the monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from −25.1 °C (−13.2 °F) in January to 20.0 °C (68 °F) in July, while the annual mean is −0.96 °C (30.3 °F). Approximately 70% of the annual rainfall occurs during the three summer months.
Best time to travel hulun buir grassland is summer, Grassland is not Green in September and October. I think snowfall will start after October. You can arrive Hailar by train or plane and rent car to visit grassland and Mongolian village on the grassland. You can book hotel online. 4-5 persons group is best and cheap.
Hailar is a part of Hulunbuir city. Name of the Train station is Hailar Railway Station not Hulunbuir Railway Station. Name of the airport is Hulunbuir airport.

Winter fishing season is coming in N China
Winter is a fish harvest season for Hulun Lake in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the largest freshwater lake in north China. Fishermen are pulling nets full of fish from the ice-covered lake. The lake is under a five-year fishing moratorium from 2014 to rehabilitate its dwindling aquatic resources.

The 2012 Inner Mongolia Winter Nadam Fair, a Mongolian traditional fair, took place in Chen Barag Banner, Hulunbuir League on Dec 24, 2012.In North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, temperatures reached -38 C (-36.4 F). During the event, participants raced horses and wrestled in traditional Mongolian style.
