The Mawangdui Han Relics in The Hunan Provincial Museum, Changsha, China
One of the all time best museums Travels With Sheila has ever visited would have to be the Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha. This museum draws huge crowds for two reasons. All China museums are free and because of the fantastic 2,100 year old objects from the Han Tombs discovered in Mawangdui.
Like the Egyptians, the Chinese begin preparing for death as soon as they are born. The Han Tombs of Mawangdui were accidently found and very prominent treasures emerged. Manuscripts and paintings written on SILK. Laquerware, figures of the Dai family servants, bronze seals, musical instruments and so much more.
And, the Hunan Provincial Museum had...the Marquise of Dai's mummy (look at that mind-boggling mummy in the next video)...
The 2,000 Year-Old Mummified Body of Lady Xin Zhui, Hunan Museum, Changsha, China
Watch the video and let me know if you've ever seen such an incredibly, well-preserved mummy. Her knee caps looked to be in better shape than mine!
Mawangdui was the family graveyard in the Western Han Dynasty and had the tombs of Li Kang (The Marquis of Dai), Li Kang's wife and their son. The amount of cultural relics found in this family tomb would rank them as biliionaires today.
Hunan Provincial Museum: The Hunan Exhibit
Aside from the famous Mawangdui Han Tomb findings, the Hunan Museum also has an exhibit about the history of Hunan province and its people - with the chilli making a telling appearance...

No. The male Museum. The museum is the best sights of Hsinchu women who died before 2100 called mummies. She was denied the bury gukseung who ruled the area. When I first discovered that she was weighing on the height of the 154cm 34kg. Incomparable was surprised by the preserved remains intact until her hair, eyebrows and hands. Her body was buried deep in the ground. Shut off the air so thoroughly by blocking the growth of bacteria such as charcoal rot was her body. At the time of death was 50 years old she suddenly said to have died from eating the melons. Three ornate expensive gwando around her body intact and keep the old look. Gwanwi yen patterns that are praying for immortality have been decorated. The museum is the mummy of a hero Hsinchu and grave goods from the tomb of her family are the main exhibits. Money, carved out of a servant made of clay and wood had seemed dead and also want to enjoy the right to show the desire of the aristocracy at the time. The stuff was rare everywhere. The bidanot of about 2m long. But that's only a small weight and egg amendment 49g. I have created these clothes still secret was not revealed.

Hunan Province Vlog: Fenghuang Ancient Town!
instagram.com/timandglo
August 29-30, 2014
We recently spent 4 days and 4 nights in Hunan Province. After flying into Zhangjiajie City late on a Friday night, we stayed at a hotel close to to the airport then took the 9:30 AM bus to Feng Huang Ancient Town. It took three hours in ideal driving conditions, blue skies and no traffic.
We had a tight schedule for the trip, so we were only able to stay in Feng Huang for one night. But it was worth the 6-7 hour roundtrip bus ride! The town was almost deserted during the day, maybe because it was so hot out (90 degree Fahrenheit with little cloud coverage!). It was great to wander the town and have the river promenade and back alleyways all to ourselves! The ancient town completely transforms over night and it almost unrecognizable. The colorful lights, karaoke and DJ music, and bustling streets give the ancient town a modern look.
A couple years ago the city started charging tourists for admission into the ancient part of the city. We went to an official kiosk and paid 148 RMB for a 3-day pass, which allows you an unlimited number of entries and exits. We noticed that security and ticket checks amp up at night when there are far more tourists coming and going.
We didn't book accommodation prior to our arrival in Feng Huang. We ended up staying JiangNang BinGuan, which is next to the NanHua Gate. We paid 160 RMB for the night but later found out that the going rate on CTrip.com is 88 RMB. Lesson: Don't be shy about bargaining. ;)
In ZhangJiaJie City, we stayed at WanTai International Hotel and pre-booked the room through Agoda.com. We liked the hotel except for the fact that cigarette smoke from other rooms filtered into our room through the vents making the fact that we were in a non smoking room completely worthless. For this reason alone, we would not stay at WanTai International again.
FYI: Both WanTai and JiangNan had only Mandarin-speaking staff.
On August 31, we took a bus from FengHuang to WuLingYuang National Park, which is about 50 km from ZhangJiaJie City. We're excited to share videos from the park next!
Thank you for watching!! And happy travels!
