Guangzhou (Chinese: 广州), also known as Canton is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. On the Pearl River about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km (90 mi) north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub

Administratively, the city holds sub-provincial status and is one of China's nine National Central Cities. At the end of 2018, the population of the city's expansive administrative area is estimated at 14,904,400 by city authorities.

HEADLINE: Will American made toys top holiday wish lists?
CAPTION: In the wake of recalls involving toys made in China, some American toy manufacturers are hoping parents look for the 'Made in the USA' label this upcoming holiday shopping season. (Oct. 8)

THE ARROWCOPTER WAS FIRST INTRODUCED BY INVENTOR RICHARD EVANOFF AT THE 1968 TOY FAIR.

NEARLY 40 YEARS LATER, HIS DAUGHTER SAYS THEIR HOLLISTER -- CALIFORNIA BUSINESS IS STILL FLYING HIGH.
Debbie Evanoff, Owner, Arrowcopter, Inc., says: We have a lot of parents who remember playing with it as a child and they're very glad to be able to introduce it to their children now so it's really a classic American toy.
AND IT'S ALL MADE IN THE USA.
Debbie Evanoff, Owner, Arrowcopter, Inc., says: My bodies are made in California, my wings are made in New Jersey, the rubber bands come from Kentucky.

ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO JUST DOWN THE ROAD IN SANTA CRUZ ANOTHER AMERICAN TOY MAKER CREATED THE TWINKLE BABY BONDING DOLL FOR INFANTS.
Lara Pebbles, Owner, Twinkle Baby, says: All of our products don't have anything that can harm a baby. Everything that we purchase comes from the United States. The fabric is organic in some cases and we have cotton flannel. The paint is non-toxic and all the thread comes from local distributors.
BOTH OF THESE COMPANIES HAVE HAD TO COMPETE WITH CHEAPER MADE TOYS FROM CHINA, WHERE SAFETY STANDARDS MAY NOT BE ENFORCED.
Lara Pebbles, Owner, Twinkle Baby, says: I don't think the government is doing enough to make sure the products that come into the United States are checked out. They don't check everything. They just pick a few and a lot of garbage gets passed through.
Debbie Evanoff, Owner, Arrowcopter, Inc., says: You get what you pay for. Our prices are a little higher but you can't compete with our quality.
Haven Daley, Associated Press, says: Some toy store owners say they are making an effort to buy products made in places other than China.
Sloan Mukai, Owner, Wooden Horse Toy Store, says: Purchasing a little bit more from Europe, purchasing a little bit more from the US. We're asking those questions. I think it's actually been good because it makes the parents, me, the retailers, the vendors all more careful.
BUT BUYING AMERICAN TOYS MAY BE TOUGH SELL FOR PARENTS. INDUSTRY EXPERTS SAY BETWEEN 80 AND 90 PERCENT OF ALL TOYS SOLD IN THIS COUNTRY ARE MADE IN CHINA. HAVEN DALEY, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.

► The BEST VPNs for China:
When you walk into hongxing seafood restaurant, you immediately feel like you're walking into a seafood heaven. This is different from our regular Chinese street food videos, this is a Chinese seafood feast video! And today we are featuring all cantonese style cooking, one of the 8 main specialties of Chinese cuisine! This is less spicy than Sichuan food, this is much more elegant and refined and clear style, very delicious!
When you walk in, you'll see hundreds of different fish tanks full of seafood!
You'll see at least 2 aisles full of lobster from around the world. Australian lobster, Boston lobster, and more. And you'll also find aisles full of different crabs from around the world. The biggest ones are the Alaskan king prawns. You can order these steamed or boiled and covered in a garlic sauce. The crab legs are full of flesh! Super tasty! This is Chinese style seafood mukbang! This is way better than a regular seafood boil!
You'll also find rows of different clams, mussels, abalone, oysters, and more exotic things too. There is water beetles, snakes, and also classic Cantonese stir fry dishes too. You can eat dim sum, fried noodles, and cantonese desserts too!
This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Guangzhou for seafood. In my opinion, if you can afford to spend a little for one crab, it is totally worth it to taste the cantonese style of cooking.

Roundtable — Chinese Investment, Infrastructure and Influence in Europe: The Global Context
With increased economic strength, China is taking on a more visible role in global affairs. China’s infrastructure ambitions are manifested globally in its Belt and Road Initiative and in Europe through bilateral deals as well as the 16+1 cooperation format with East and Central European countries. With investments in ports, railways and roads, the Chinese state forges partnerships and dependencies with governments in Europe and around the world.
To what extent to these measures promote legitimate needs to enhance global connectivity? How do they strengthen China's political influence? How should Europe respond to China's investment drive?
In light of these questions, Dr. Matt Ferchen, nonresident scholar at the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy, discussed the motives, implications and global context of China’s investments at the Stockholm Free World Forum on May 16th. The roundtable was moderated by Dr. Oscar Jonsson, Acting Director of SFWF.
Men in High Heels for Women's Rights
Men sporting high heels. That was the sight in Dongguan in southern China in late July. The South Mall Amazing World Amusement park ran a special event, where guys that wore stiletto heels would get free rides and also be in the chance to win a prize.
Some say this is similar to the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes campaign that's aimed to raise awareness of sexual abuse of women. Watch Chris Chappell and Karen Chang discuss whether activities like these can really help to reduce abuse of women, or if these men were really just there to have fun, and only got the slightest taste of what it is like to be a woman.

Average Temperatures +4.2 °C (January), +27.9 °C (July). Best time to go -- October to early November and late May for nice weather and less crowds of people on domestic holidays. Beijing is the largest city in China and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is situated at the mouth of the Yangtze River in Eastern China, south of the capital Beijing. Its strategic location and excellent shipping facilities made it attractive for foreign trade in the 19th century and the city developed into a hub for commerce between east and west. Along with import and export trade Shanghai became a financial centre around the 1930s. This influence declined after the Communist Party takeover in 1949, as trade focused on socialist countries. A return of the city to a global financial power came in the 1990s after economic reforms introduced by reformist leader Deng Xiaoping. Modern Shanghai is a now a truly global city with major influences in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. The city is split into a number of districts of which the Inner ones are of most importance for visitors. These are: The Bund 外滩 Wàitān - The colonial riverside of Shanghai with dozens of old historical buildings lining the Huangpu River; Changning 长宁区 Chángníngqū - Home to Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Zoo; Shanghai Luwan, Xuhui Leafy district once known as the Paris of the East and one of Shanghai's most rich and vibrant neighborhoods; Hongkou 虹口区 Hóngkǒuqū - Home of Lu Xun Park as well as a football stadium; Huangpu excluding the Old City 黄浦区; Huángpǔqū - The traditional center of Shanghai, home to People's Square, People's Park, and the Shanghai Museum; Jing'an District 静安区 Jìngānqū - Home to Jing'an Temple; Old City 南市 Nanshi - Home of Yu Garden, the City God Temple, and Huxingting Tea House; Putuo 普陀区 Pǔtuóqū ; Yangpu (杨浦区; Yángpǔqū -- Location of Fudan University and Tongji University; and Zhabei 闸北区 Zháběiqū - Location of the Shanghai Railway Station. Another main area of interest is The Pudong the CBD Central Business District and home to the iconic Oriental Pearl TV Tower with its famous outdoor viewing platform.
3 x 20ft Shipping Containers Turn Into Amazing Compact Home
I’m always amazed at how people can turn shipping containers, hard, cold metal boxes, into some of the most beautiful, warm and welcoming homes. That’s exactly what this young couple from Victoria have done, transforming 3 20ft shipping containers into a wonderful, functional house.
Support our show:
Everywhere you look, Richard and Amy have packed their container home with great small space design ideas, ensuring that within the small footprint of the shipping containers, there is a tremendous amount of home and living space. Just as much thought has been put into the build of the home, with some great choices in materials and construction techniques making this a high performing and well insulating container home.

Urban agriculture
Urban agriculture or urban farming is the practice of cultivating, processing, and distributing food in or around a village, town, or city. Urban agriculture can also involve animal husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry, Urban beekeeping, and horticulture. These activities occur in peri-urban areas as well, and peri-urban agriculture may have different characteristics.
Urban agriculture can reflect varying levels of economic and social development. In the global north, it often takes the form of a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers, ‘foodies,’ and ‘locavores’ form social networks founded on a shared ethos of nature and community holism. These networks can evolve when receiving formal institutional support, becoming integrated into local town planning as a ‘transition town’ movement for sustainable urban development. In the developing south, food security, nutrition, and income generation are key motivations for the practice. In either case, more direct access to fresh vegetables, fruits, and meat products through urban agriculture can improve food security and food safety.

STORYLINE:
A couple of days before the World Cup, Russia is preparing various things for tourists to remember it by.
A souvenir factory in the small town of Semyonov near Nizhny Novgorod, one of the host cities, is making Matryoshkas (Russian dolls) with famous football players painted on them.
All of these small wooden dolls are hand painted.
A painting on a classic Russian matryoshka in the khokhloma style is a combination of red and yellow colors. But for the World Cup the souvenir factory changed the tradition.
An author Russian doll is more difficult to make because it's made by individual order. So it has to be very precise so that the image isn't distorted and the football players are recognizable without becoming a caricature, - said the factory's head artist Elena Galkina.
Stone is another traditional material in Russia.
