Hjeltefjorden Fjord - Welcome to Norway
Recoreded September 1, 2008.
Hjeltefjorden is a fjord in Hordaland in Norway. Its name is derived from Hjaltland, the Old Norse name for Shetland - the routes to Shetland ran through Hjeltefjorden. It is a major route into Bergen, and runs from Fedje in the north to Byfjorden in the south. It is delimited to the west by the Øygarden and Sotra fjords and to the east by fjords including those of Radøy, Holsnøy, Herdla and Askøy.

EXPLORING the spectacular ISLAND of MARSTRAND ????, SWEDEN
SUBSCRIBE: - Marstrand, Sweden, my best photos. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Marstrand is a seaside locality situated in Kungälv Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had 1,319 inhabitants in 2010. The town got its name from its location on the island Marstrandsön. Marstrand is, despite its small population, for historical reasons often still referred to as a city.
Sweden is a Scandinavian nation with thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains. Its principal cities, eastern capital Stockholm and southwestern Gothenburg and Malmö, are all coastal. Stockholm is built on 14 islands. It has more than 50 bridges, as well as the medieval old town, Gamla Stan, royal palaces and museums such as open-air Skansen.

We are in Ansião, at Natura 2000 domain (PT Sicó/Alvaiázere) as well in one of the most important cultural landscapes of Portugal.
My name is João Forte and i am a geographer.
I grew up in this region and i remember the time when the oak and holm forests where my playground. Fauna associated to this ecosystem was one of my teachers.
In the last 3 decades, big transformations ocurred in this landscape, changes that became a real problem and, at the same time, making also people like me to search solutions to this serious problem.
Forest fires have been affecting this region in a very problematic way. Years of higher temperatures have corresponded to the higher burn areas. This country is not adapting to this reality and this means not only an environmental disaster, as well a serious socioeconomic problem.
These aspects have been properly take in account by politicians and this only aggravates the problem. Forest is disappearing from a map dominated by the the eucalyptus monoculture, this national cancer. A recent study, concerning forest fires in the Portuguese public forest, has showed that climate is what most influences the final burn area each year. Although, climate can be, at some point, mitigated, since with a good forest management the number of fires and subsequent burn area can be greatly diminished.
Management is missing, as well adaptation. Contrary to what some might say, climate is not static but dynamic. It is very complex and there are also some political and economical interests associated, probably that’s why so much controversy about this issue. We are disturbing somehow climate, but it is not truly understood because of its inherent complexity. All those who will be in climate conference, in Paris, have to be aware of their responsibilities and understand that in first place are people and their home, Planet Earth, and not corporate interests.
Lets go to work?
