Hydrangea festival Japan
Every year in the month of June, the Hydrangea Festival is held in Hakkeijima. During the festival, you can see 20,000 hydrangeas in full bloom on this manmade island, the most you can find anywhere in Kanagawa Prefecture. There are numerous hydrangea-related events, including the Hydrangea Stamp Rally, Hydragea Train, Hydragea waterfall bamboo lantern illlummination, and restaurants offering specialty menus.
The hydrangea garden path stamp rally has been held since the festival started. You can participate in the stamp rally for free on any day during the festival. Participants will get a shopping discount, and the participants who complete the stamp rally will get a discount for the tickets for the Aqua Resorts and the One Day Pass for Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise.
There will also be a “Bayside Market ~Ajisai(Hydrangea) Fair~,” with sweets which are associated with hydrangea and special dishes only offered during the festival. After the feast for your eyes, you can have a feast for your stomach!

Hydrangea Festival
Hydrangea (Ajisai in Japanese) is the sign of the rainy season in Japan. The flower is adored and honored by most of the Japanese like they do for ume, sakura and irises. Viewing hydrangea flower is a tradition here. Japanese absolutely respect this tradition!
Katahara Onsen is a scenic hot spring village in the coastal area of Mikawa Bay, considered as one of the larger Gamagori Onsen area. The area around the Hodagaike Pond, part of the Katahara Onsen, is highly regarded as Home Place of the Hydrangeas (Ajisai-no-sato), due to the 50,000 bushes of the exuberant flowers that proudly ornate the boardwalk around the water body when in their full bloom. When it happens, the Ajisai Matsuri (“Hydrangea Festival”) is held in order to celebrate them. It starts on June 1st and goes for a whole month until June 30th.

Hydrangea Part 2. And since the park is actually a Museum, there are many historical buildings that you can observe and enter, ancient thatched roof houses were the stylish interiors featuring fireplace and antique tools! There are also rivers and a beautiful waterfall bordered with Momiji Acorn that will turn red in autumn. There is also children's amusement area and a couple of restaurants! The Kyodo-No-Mori park is actually quite famous for plum flowers in late winter too and surely has a lot of cherry blossoms! It was a wise decision to hunt Hydrangea here because it is less crowded than a Temple where people would also go just to pray so given the fact that we went on a Sunday in full bloom season it wasn't crowded at all! It only costs under $3 to enter and it has a planetarium too for a different fee. Cool souvenir shops and more foods at the gates. Wonderful time spent here with Mia-chan????☔
