Korea Explored - Ep. 21 Hyeonchungsa Shrine
This shrine is dedicated to General Lee Sun-Shin who lived from 1545-1598 and was originally built in 1706.
General Lee is famous for his naval victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war.
One of his most notable battles was when he fought the Japanese navy with 13 ships on his side against Japan’s 133 warships and 200+ support ships.
One of the General’s greatest accomplishments was improving on the Turtle ship. Contrary to popular belief, he did not invent the ship but improved on an older design.
The sides of the turtle ship were dotted with smaller holes from which arrows, guns, and mortars could be fired. The roof was covered with planks and spikes
The purpose of the spikes was to prevent the ship from being boarded by the enemy.
The museum also has National Treasure No. 76, The General’s Nanjung Diary, and his Long sword, National Treasure No. 326. The long swords were massive and seemed to be taller than the average sized man.
This park is actually really big and is nice if you are looking for somewhere to walk around at. Spring is the great season to visit in and the weather was perfect when we were there.
At the pond in the park, there are hundreds of huge koi fish swimming around. It was an impressive site!
Here you can visit the house the General lived in and practiced martial arts until he was a young man.
All in all, this is a great place to enjoy a nice walk or pay respect to a important person in Korea’s long history.

【4K】현충사 Hyeonchungsa Shrine Walk ????????
Hyeonchungsa Shrine, located in Asan-si, is the shrine of General Lee Sun-Shin (1545-1598). It was built in 1706, and named Hyeonchungsa Shrine the following year. In 1932 during the Japanese occupation, a treasure preservation committee was formed to protect the shrine. Afterward, the shrine was rebuilt by the government, its area greatly enlarged, and was further developed into a sacred place.
The shrine contains Sipkyeongdo, a pictorial biography of general Lee Sun-Shin’s portrait and his life story. Nanjung Diary, designated National Treasure No. 76, his Long Sword, Treasure No. 326, and other treasures are displayed within the shrine as well, together with the old house he lived in, the arrow shooting range, and Geobuksun (turtle ship). When you enter the of Hyeonchungsa Shrine, Chungmu gate, you will see another gate called Hongsal Gate. Go past Hongsal Gate and you can see Lee Sun-Shin’s portrait, which was made with Korean Cheonggiwa tiles and iron-reinforced concrete. Inside the Gotaek Building is the Chungmujeong House, where Lee Sun-Shin spent his life until he was a young man. The newly added pond, Yeonji Pond, in Hyeonchungsa Shrine is also worth exploring.

Yi Sun-shin (Hangul: 이순신; hanja: 李舜臣; April 28, 1545 – December 16, 1598) was a Korean naval commander, famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty, and is well-respected for his exemplary conduct on and off the battlefield not only by Koreans, but by Japanese Admirals as well.[1] Military historians have placed General Yi Sun-Shin on par with Admiral Horatio Nelson as arguably the greatest naval commander in history for his undefeated record against seemingly insurmountable odds despite no background in naval training. His title of Samdo Sugun Tongjesa literally meaning Naval Commander of the Three Provinces, was the title for the commander of the Korean navy until 1896.

My MAIN Camera is the Nikon D800. I always suggest buying used over new, if you are stepping up to a Full Frame. You can get a fantastic piece of equipment for about half the cost of new!
My Favorite Lens for Portrait Photography is a 105mm Prime Micro Lens:
I use this amazing little Microphone with the fuzzy “Dead Cat” attachment to block wind and ambient noise, and I am astounded at what a great job this mic does!
My Mavic Drone has opened the sky for me! Sometimes I get a little nostalgic being able to fly around Korea again!

과거 몇번 들렀던 기억이 난다.
