Jimmy Fallon Rips JFK Security
An Egyptian-American who flew from New York's JFK airport was arrested at Cairo airport Wednesday for carrying weapons in his checked-in luggage, but American officials said there had been no security lapse.
Mohamed Ibrahim Marei, a U.S. university professor of botany, arrived by EgyptAir flight 986 with two 9-mm handguns, 250 bullets in metal boxes, and two swords and 11 knives in a secret compartment in a bag.
The recovery was made after customs officials found him nervous, and decided to check his luggage.
The U.S. Transport Security Administration (TSA), in charge of baggage security, confirmed that two undeclared firearms were found in the passenger's luggage, but said there had been no security glitch at JFK.
It said in a statement U.S. regulations allowed weaponry in checked baggage if it had been declared to the airline.
...other countries have different laws that address transportation and possession of firearms. We recommend passengers traveling internationally check with the authorities at their destination about their requirements, the statement added.
